I have now been on 10mg Citalopram for 2 weeks, have to higher the dose to 20mg at the weekend, at the moment I am not feeling too good, hightened anxiety which the GP told me to expect, only sleeping a couple of hours a night and tummy upsets, I would love to hear other people's experiences with this drug as I am not sure whether to pack it in or carry on, thank you.

    Hi Marie

Don't know what beta blockers are but if you can perserve with the 20 mg . I am taking 30 mg every night . There are a lot of people on this site who will talk and give support . It won't happen overnight as im still not really right but am getting better after nearly 6 weeks

panic attack are so bad you feel like you are dying and the only way to get rid of them is with a lot of patience and determination, please try other things aswell as the pills a paper bag for example when you feel it coming on it worked for me and i came off ativan a high dose and i am only on 6mg of diazepam a day now plus from 40 mg to 20 mg of citalopram they really suck when you start them, why the beta blockers marie for medical reasons or for relaxation as they may be a part of the problem,i have to take them for medical reasons and they are really bad to take and work with other meds as since i have been taking them the panic attacks have come back with a vengeance and i have ducked them sometimes but once you are on them you have to wean off not just drop the dose quickly as they really mess with you have you thought you may have post natal depression they are all the symptoms, keep on the forum there are so many helpful people on here and you know you are not alone anytime day or night good luck x

Hi everyone just joined the group for the first time .i also have just took my first 20mg last night and although I also take 3x10mg of amitriptiline at night for pain .,I had the worst nights sleep ever . I think you can just about cope if you can get some sleep ,but I was wandering around trying to keep quiet. After reading all the replies I'm not sure if I want to go down this road myself ,especially as it only a couple of week to Xmas. On the whole I'm usually ok but have been on seroxat in the past and after weeks on nothing and suffering a trauma ( fell and broke my arm and badly bruised my back ) (plus a very poorly dog )(no job , no income , and Xmas upon us !i cracked . Think I will get out of this bed and kick myself up the arse . Don't fancy another night like last night .what do you guys think. Must be honest I've just felt tons better writing it all down

    hi wendy and all

my doc was really good and explained why anxiety etc happen and he put me on the betas to help deal with the physical effects the palpitations, sweats etc but now I need to deal with the mental so will def start the citalopram again tomorrow. its amazing how one thing someone can say can trigger something ive never been a worrier etc never but I was doing really well last week went to see a very unsympathetic locum doc who told me to cut down the betas because my pulse was slow and that sent me mental again thought my heart was going to stop couldn't sleep tight muscles and agitated again spoke to the pharmacy the next day and he said they were fine as ive had no problems that reassured me and I calmed down we really do have amazing bodies lol when they work rolleyes thanks for all your kind comments

hi marie well done you are going to be cool with them once they get in your system properly and they really do help a lot ,its so tragic that a locum can put you through such turmoil i had a similar problem with one as she would not listen at all and was ready to send me to the hospital that very minute,i have heart problems and have had fifteen admits to hospital four ops and they finally found out i have a tendency to go into angina spasm very easily even on at rest it hurts like a bitch but i control it with gtn and the highest dose of heart meds they can give me also i have learned to live with it after being afraid to go to sleep without a light on for several years after having a heart attack when i was 45 and quite fit, my cardiologist has discharged me and like i say i dealt with it fine till this locum basically said to me you are going to hospital now i said why and she said you could die at any time WELL! you could have knocked me over with a feather and i said no so she said i strongly advise it and reffered me for an emergency app,i thought this lady is just not listening at all but at the back of my mind she really scared me and again the light went on of a night till i saw my own gp and he said she had no right to do that he knows my history and has been a cardiologist we cancelled the emergency app as he said to me you know your own body and are more than able to tell your own symptoms and when you need extra such as morphine to ease the pain but guess what the light is still on as she destroyed all the hard work i had done in just a few simple steps and words keep it up luv and listen to your body all my best x

    hi everyone,

it's true that you have to wait for at least 6 weeks to see the effects. Today is my 42nd day of cit 20mg and after 26 days I started taking 30mg. and guess what!

yesterday I woke up for the first time without thinking OMG, how can I survive another day with this knot of nerves around my stomach, with panicky thoughts every hour, with restless legs and racing mind?

And I had one blip when I was negative and nothing else! Went to bed with only sleeping pills,(normally took lorazapam to help me calm down), woke up in the night without being sweaty and panicky and now I am up and the anxiety is very small!

So, after 6 weeks of persevering and struggling my cit is working at last!

    There is hope for everyone

Hey there! I was put on 20mg Cit for anxiety. I've only been on it 4 days now. I drank on Wednesday night and i woke up feeling so anxious and shaky. Has anyone drank on these and felt this way? Also- I have broken sleep. I can't sleep a whole night without waking up every few hours. I go back and fourth with feeling pretty good, then pretty low. After reading all your stories It seems like I just have to wait it out! Thanks!

Has anyone gone on to Citalopram successfully for a second time? I have been trying to wean off of them all summer from 20 mg, had a good 5 months on them but then went down to 5mg and things weren't so good, so I am now back on 10mg, this is my third week and feel awful, a lot worse than I did first time round, I thought that as the drug was still in my system it would be easy, my GP wants me to go back to 20 but to be honest after how I feel from going to 5 to 10 it has put me off increasing any more, would love to know how others have got on.
