Sudden excessive belching/Burping &body aches with unconfirmed diagnosis..Thoughts?

Soooo in June I had sudden onset of belching n burping n feelings of air/gas rising up to chest. Long story but had endoscope in June with INITIAL diagnosis of "bile reflux gastritis". Started on zantex, sulcracate n no help. Predominant symptoms was excessive belching n burping. Me and that GI doc had f/o n he was kinda dismissive joking about it. He mentioned a "trial" of the muscle relaxer "baclofen". Tryed for 2 days 3x a day at 5mg but felt work was impacted. I have had 3-4 EKG test, ultrasound n ct scan of chest, abdomen n pelvis. All came back normal. That gi doc was kinda dismissive with " I offered all I can". I know have another GI follow up in 2 weeks. The first GI doc seemed to adjust his diagnosis but was NOT clear when I asked. He just said" no serious digestive pathology is shown". Soo I'm now on no meds n have burping/belching, some abdominal pains , lower back pain n feelings of inflammation in middle of back n lower back. Any feedback?

so my biopsy was searching for pre-cancerous changes so everything was negative. he said he didn't find much but just some mild stomach inflammation

right but it's weird it would cause this excessive and intense belching...sometime abdominal pain..back pain n occasional nasea..but I "guess" gastritis could cause some of that

actually gastritis causes all of that and sometimes more. if it's chronic gastritis it can mess with your stools too. research it one of the main symptoms of gastritis is belching and abdominal pain.

so after much time and test..its looks like I have BOTH Lactose and Frutose Intolerance. unsure if I have gastritis or gerd but the Hydrogen breath test revealed that 2 intolerances....uggghhh..maybe causing host of symptoms.

      update:

I have both lactose and frutose intolerance...ughhhh..its unclear if I have gastritis or gerd but certainly these 2 intolerences revealed from these breath test. this is all so confusing n

That is rough but at least you now have a diagnosis, stay away from those two things and see if your symptoms improve. If they do then you can most likely rule out gastritis. If they don't however I would go back to your Dr and ask him to do an endoscopy to see if you have gastritis.

yes it IS ROUGH. I'm working with a dietician. I don't know if I will have both forever.... endoscope was done in June and THAT doc gave me "mild reflux gastritis" but when i went back he commented he wasn't so sure as he didnt find much???? ugggh

I belch a bit every day no matter what so far...

working with dietician now as frutose is in much. i wonder if it's possible to have intolerances and gerd or gastritus...hummm

    • Posted

It is possible, but you would need to see your doctor to get an endoscopy to confirm gastritis.

first doc did one and gave diagnosis of Mild bile reflux gastritis BUT when I did follow up appointment ..he said "unsure as I didnt find much" biopsy was negative for anything

Maybe it is simply acid reflux. My acid reflux didn't show on my endoscopy either or anything else for that matter. I was told I gad a weak lower oesophageal sphincter.

    • Posted

wow . I thought the endoscope was a SURE way to tell but maybe not. of the acid reflux symptoms...I really dont experience any heartburn hardly ever...rare occasionally. other symptoms yes. do take medicine for yours?

    • Posted

I take OTC antacids and milk. If I ignore the heartburn, it gives me a cough. Endoscopies show hiatus hernias, gastritis, h pylori and ulcers.

for me my main symptom is constant belching no matter what..it comes n goes in cycles. I wake up in morning belching. endocope was negative for all that except 1st GI doc said " mild reflux gastritis" and then he was uncertain.smh

      I definitely have lactose n frutose intolerances-smh

you take antacid dailey? which 1 or ones?

Have you tried any anti gas medication such as Windeze? Maybe try avoiding gassy vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and Brussels Sprouts. Avoid fizzy drinks.. Chew your food well and eat slowly. Assume reflux gastritis since that was first suggested and treat it as that. Maybe your food intolerances are causing the burping too. You could see other specialists to get a confirmed diagnosis. Try a food diary to help pinpoint any othet foods that are causing gas.

I have periods when I don't take Gaviscon and other times I have to take them daily. The reflux flare ups vary.

windeze?? never heard of it. prescribed or otc? been trying some gas x especially when I feel gas rise up in my chest n produce slight chest aching n discomfort- makes me anxious.

omg yes broccoli...big culprit. I THINK string beans are ok. I think your right as far as assuming reflux gastritis...he actually labeled it "mild (bile) reflux gastritis...go figure lol. I have NOT been on any medication since August n THAT might be part of the problem!!!

I'm asking my NEW GI doc about confirming the diagnosis. 2 food intolerances is a lot in itself to deal with!

working on food diary with Dietician. working on eating n chewing slower as well. these forums are great for insight n feedback

You can get Windeze OTC if Gas X doesn't work. Hopefully you can get a confirmed diagnosis.

my present new GI doc left me phone message and explained that gastritus has to do with the stomach n may impact the stomach lining (I'm on no meds presently. He explained can be a number of causes, and medications used. the food intolerences to lactose and fructose are newly acquired! They have to do with the small intestine inability to absorb carbohydrates...ugh. . He mentioned a number of meds I can take for the gastritus along with gas x to decrease belching. think I will try prilosec or nexium

sooo talked to my present new GI doc about gastritus n the intolerences. he mentioned that gastritus has to do with the inflammation of the stomach lining n the host of medication options for that...may take nexium or prilosec n gas ex for example to help with the belching.

the lactose and fructose intolerences have to deal with the small intestine inability to absorb some carbohydrates. will need to take lactaid pills at times and work with a dietician for the fructose part....ugggh

not sure how the new GI doc would confirm gastritus? the other guy did the endoscope. the new gi doc said causes of gastritis can be uncertain or unclear but a little bit of bile can get into the stomach along with certain medicines can cause gastratus. the new GI doc didnt do any additional test as of yet....thoughts?

    • Posted

An endoscopy would confirm gastritis just like your previous specialist did.

    • Posted

Right..but I dont think I want to be put to sleep n schedule another one with him or he didnt recommend it...yet...hummm..I do have colonoscopy scheduled with him. he called over weekend n left me detailed message about my gastritus n intolerences questions

    • Posted

new Gi doc seems to think it may be some gastritus based on notes from previous don n endoscope....but he didnt offer to do an additional or suppelemental 1....might be a waste

Maybe just accept the gastritis diagnosis since it was based on a previous endoscopy. A colonoscopy, however, would not detect gastritis because it looks at the bowel, your lower digestive tract. The endoscopy looked at your stomach which is your upper digestive tract.

true..your right. I believe my safest bet is to ACCEPT the gastritus diagnosis n govern my self accordingly as far as treatment..eating..etc..just picked up some nexium today. will plan to stay in for 2 months then transition to zantac 2x a day with my GI blessing. I was never on any medication before over 1 month....

Gastritus and 2 intolerences is a lotttt

Try to stay as calm as possible and avoid rich, greasy and spicy foods. A PPI should help to protect your stomach lining.

    • Posted

thanks. Appreciate it. I will work to avoid those things. a PPI like nexium will also help protect my esophagus as well...

what have u found are common or even irregular symptoms people with gastritus experience. I was given an initial diagnosis of that in July BEFORE the hydrogen breath test for the intolerences

    • Posted

i hear it can cause all kinds of symptoms, upper abdominal pain, gas, bloating, heartburn, backaches, and in even some cases diarrhea.

    • Posted

weird..I'm having all types of symptoms n constantly wake up belching n burping n throughout the day ..upset stomach..etc along with 2 intolerences. endoscope revealed mild gastritis..I recently restarted nexium in Hope's it helps but everday is a journey...

im on pantaprozole which is also a ppi but i stopped taking it because it gave me so many stomach cramps and made me have to go to the bathroom alot more

@pippa58442- I seem to belch and burp dailey with slight chest stinging sensations at times throughout the day no matter what I eat. I wonder if this could be non gastro related?? Like some other cause?? I really dont know what I have outside the 2 intolerences

    • Posted

@jarmall03426 did you ever get this resolved or figured out. I'm having same exact symptoms. 24/7 constant burping no matter what I eat and chest stingy pains. Only lying down at night helps some.

The symptoms you are having sound like gastritis which was picked up on your endoscopy. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining which is a gut problem.
