Suitable Shoes?

Can anyone suggest some suitable shoes to wear after the plaster comes off? I've just had my plaster off and K wire removed and cannot get any of my shoes even my stretchy Sketchers on. What have other members worn for the first few weeks?

thanks in advance

Initially I wore original Crocs. After another several weeks, I have been able to wear Merrell hiking shoes, but have to go half size larger than my normal size.  I am now at 18 weeks post-op.  In just the last couple weeks, I've finally started to be able to wear other "normal" shoes (no heals!), but again, all have been a half size larger than my normal size.

    Well ladies,

I ended up with some Sketchers go walk 2's, I bought two pairs two sizes apart in black so they look okayish under my black work trousers. It sounds extravagant but as I'm going to have to have my other foot operated on in a few months time, I felt it was worth it. They are washable so when I no longer need the larger ones I'll wash them and donate them to the local "shoe bank" so hopefully someone else will benefit...They are very comfy and support my foot and make it easier for me to try proper heel to toe walking..

Keep up the good work on here, it is very informative and the helpful posts meant I had all the useful items needed and to me prepare for surgery. I just wasn't quite prepared for how swollen my foot would be when the plaster came off.

Once again many thanks and wishing you all a good recovery.

Glad you got sorted Wendy. Sounds sensible investment especially if you are having the other one done. I think trying to walk as normally as possible is best way forward and those shoes should support your foot while you improve.  X

Further to my previous post, I've bought a pair of Keen trail shoes, they have a wide toe box & I got them in my usual size 😃 they are very comfy, really pleased with them.

Hi, I was looking at some wide trainers and Birkenstocks maybe.

I managed to get some sandals that have to Velcro straps on them so you can choose your own with, I also got some sketchers lace ups that lace up from just after the toe, so can be laced up as tight or loose as you want..

my my biggest worry is how much is swelling and how much is a change in my foot shape, after the problem with me breaking the toe, I don't know if I have mucked up the shape my foot should have been of if its just swelling...😥😥😥

I wore Crocs. Kinda ugly but very very wide and plenty of cushioning. I still wear on occasion. Altra running shoes are wide toe box too

Just to say one week on and I'm in equal sized sketchers now, I've also had a pair of my suede loafer's on and yesterday I managed to get into my walking boots and take my dogs a short walk!  My foot is still swollen but half the size it was last weekend..The swelling in mine was more in the depth than the width across the toes....Little by little I'm getting there...

Sorry to hear about your breaking your toe Swampsiesue hope it heals ok and you continue to make a good recovery...

That's fab Wendy ...you must be really pleased.  I think I have got to the point where I don't like restricting the foot or having the toe touch the end so may stay in size bigger trainers!,
