Surgeon wants me to have local injection

Greetings. My x-rays and CT scan indicate moderate arthritis in both hips. I have really intense pain in buttock near left hip and surgeon says right hip needs replacement. My question is has anyone had local anaesthetic in hip to ascertain if hip pain relates to wear and tear or nerve damage etc? Thks for input.

    Hi folks. The local anaesthetic injection did not really ease my pain. In fact, it stirred up pain to my other hip, my thigh and my spine. I see my Orthopedic surgeon in a two weeks and I will ask for an MRI or new CT scan as I believe my pain is spinal in origin. Thank you all for your input.
