Hey guys, I'm day 4 post surgery. Sleeping a lot. My lower back is sore from how much I'm sleeping. Any advice?

Just rest when you are tired, in time you wont be as sleepy. Are you still taking pain meds, if so that could be making you sleepy too.  I got my immobilizer off on Tuesday and I am now going to put 2x a week and have exercises to do 3x a day.   Now that I am able to do more I too am feeling very sleepy so I take a nap during the day and it helps.

Anesthesia and narcotics do strange things to our body..could be something going on in your ear that you are not feeling because of the narcotics.

Its,10 days post surgery from rotator cuff. Still in hell of a lot pain. Ran out of pain meds at day 8, tried just sticking with Tylenol (cause I'm allergic to ibuprofen)- crying with pain today day 10.

They say the pain shouldn't be this extreme and to call my Dr on Monday. I'm going to call my Dr as advice bit did anyone else suffer with pain longet and needed pain meds? Keep in mind I have, high tolerance to pain, so me crying says a lotime.

So sorry to hear that. I don't think you should be in that much pain after 10 days. I am in week 5 now and as long as I don't do anything stupid the pain is manageable and bearable.  I would encourage you to see the doctor and hopefully they may get a scan done to see if everything is Ok. There was another patient on here who had troubles and had to go to another specialist as his own doctor kept fobbing him off. A scan revealed a problem.

My Dr is really good. I'm sure he will approach it properly on Monday. I've been seeing him every month since my car accident, fought both car/health insurance. Got me through 3 of my injuries that were car accident related. My shoulder makes 4..

I'm just wondering if it's due to my shouler surgery being rotator cuff repair with screws and a tear in my shoulder blade that was shaved . My dr even told me "normally I would have you start pt week 1. But due to your surgery, wait til week 4. "

I'm in the sling til week 4 due to how severe the surgery was. During week 4-6 I slowly wean out of the sling. Week 4 take away the pillow except at night.

Sounds like you're in good hands. Your injuries make mine seem a walk in the park. Keep us informed how you get on.

Hi. I'm sorry your pain is so bad. I was told to use the pain meds as needed. My therapist told me to for sure use pain meds before my appointments with him. I was afraid about getting addicted to my opiads, however, I used them for the pain. And, when able, started cutting back, taking a half instead of a whole one etc., The knowledge I have acquired throughout my ordeal assured me that I needed the pain meds to help me deal and "heal". It is said that rotator cuff surgery is one of the most painful and longest to heal. My doc apparently was very aware of that and actually was very supportive and acknowledged that taking my pain meds was beneficial to me. Stress inhibits healing and the more pain you have, the more stress your body is under. Everyone is different. As long as you are aware, be good to yourself. Wishing you a healthy healing. I still have some discomfort, certain positions at certain times. It's been 8 months, but I'm doing well. God bless you. This too shall pass...

Also, when the time came, I had no issues in cutting back on the pain meds and quitting using them.

I had called my Dr and told him my concern. I can easily stop pain meds, but why risk any side effects knowing I can go cold turkey. Switched it to something I can't spell that handles nerve pain and not addictive. I called the pharmacist to confirm It is accurate. Why risk things when you don't have to. Feel better that my Dr took my mindset & concern into consideration and changed it for me. Hopefully it'll help :D more respect to my orthopedic

Here's the update. Went back to my Dr today. Still in agony pain, have to go to pain management because it's still from surgery, and says it's because I'm thin built. Also just started pt today, and they said the same thing about how the body structure can affect the pain recovery. No pain meds since friday. Tears. I want and try to do pt without pain meds, but I truly don't know how long that's going to last.

Tylenol extra strength doesn't even take edge off, allergic to ibuprofen, and I don't want to risk the chance of becoming addicted to pain meds knowing how they can be addictive from ppl I've talked to.

I can see the bind you are in and you have my sympathy for whatever it's worth. Is acupuncture any good? Some people here might know so I hope they comment. If you're in a pain management plan then at least you'll get some decent pain relief some of the time. Keep your spirits up.

      Ice...try frozen gel packs

I admire your narcotic stance...but you do not have the emotional aspect to addiction.....hugs

That is very true, I was also quite concerned about "an addiction " to my pain meds, as I have heard about so many people becoming addicted to pain meds, and I know there are far too many that become addicted. However, at this point in post op and recovery, pain meds could still be quite beneficial. Her concern was as mine after my surgery regarding the pain meds. She will need to decide if her "disposition towards narcotics" would easily cause her to be addicted. "If one stays aware". As I stated before. And yes, ice is the best!

      I agree with you

not everyone has an addictive emotional aspect...it takes emotional plus physiological together to make addiction.

your body will develope a physiological dpendence which is easily broken when the mind says, no.

your body may perspire profusely for a day or two, but the mind dos not give in.

this has happened to me in hospital on morphine pump when I switched to oral narcotics.

Yes acupuncture is very good. I'm trying to not go to my Dr for that cause he's also a chiropractor and Im not allowed to get adjust at this moment.

Glad to see another was concerned as well. My mind says no and constantly aware. Even still worried cause I had a brother who once had a drug addiction. So he's in my face telling me no pain meds.
