Gleason score I believe is 3+6+6 Mri indicates 3 definate spots and all 12 core samples had cancerous material but so far indications are it's all contained within the Prostate.  I've chosen Davinci.

For what it's worth, here is my 2 cents.

    a) Ask another urologist if any treatment is needed at your age for a Gleason 3+3

    b) As for treatments, while I looked at different options, I had the DaVinci surgery a couple of weeks ago. But then I had a Gleason 4+5 and at the age of 50 I concluded that was the best option for me. If you choose this option, rest assured that recovery is swift. I was driving 7 days post surgery. The day the catheter was removed.

Mine gleason is 3+6,  All areas of the prostate tested came back Positive. MRI reveiled nothing has broke out. I think the best time is now. The group that I'm working with has done thousands of procedures, my Doctor had done 100s and assisted on more. I'll have two Dr's working on me.. Talking about this and all this imput I'm feeling better about it.. Mine is a slow grow Cancer but it has been in my prostate a very long time and could break out. I think it's time to deal with it. I like the fact of removal, it's more final than other options.

I don't understand what you mean by Gleason 3+6

The Gleason score only goes up to 5+5

The number of procedures the group has performed is not important. What is important is the number performed by the particular urologist you choose.

My husband had radical prostectomy in Jan this yr he is 57 his score was 3+4 and was told it had leaked out prostate into lymph node. He felt surgery was only option for him he also wanted it out. He was very sore after and said catheter was uncomfortable, he is unable ever to have sex again even with help as they had to remove more than expected because of it leaked out. This was all explained before hand. Now 8 months on he is doing well and having psa checked every 3 months at the moment and if it rises then he will need radiotherapy or other treatment. Hope all goes well.

It all depends where the cancer is in the prostate as to what other therapy is offered. My husband has been told by his surgeon exactly why the other treatments won't work. He is waiting a date to have the prostate out. The surgeon is pretty confident he can preserve the nerves and my husband still reeling from what will happen afterwards. My view is we will work though it, better to have the cancer gone than try something that wont work in full. Good luck Dan x

    Hi Dan

I had my prostate removed in May 2011. Gleeson 7.  I was the first patient for the equipment installed at the Kent & Canterbury hospital. I feel it was a very good decision.  Apart from the occasional time when I get tried there is no incontinence and flow is very good. PSA score has been zero since and they want to sign me off.  Impotence has been a problem but maybe that is more about old age. I am now 70.

The procedure was done on a Tuesday morning and I walked out of the hospital on the Weds morning.  The worst thing was the noise in the ward at night - no chance of getting any sleep so I was very pleased to get home so quickly.  Catheter removed after  a week.  Recommend doing the pelvic floor exercises to help with bladder control. Best of luck. Chris
