Swallowing Difficulty - Desperate

God this is really getting me down, to point I have been wondering if I am ever going to eat again and I am frightening myself with the thoughts I am having.
I just cannot swallow solid foods, it started 4 weeks ago. i was happily eating some chicken and all of a sudden my throat 'closed' and I choked. I managed to cough it back up and carried on eating after.
Next day, for love nor money could I swallow, each time I tried i choked.
4 weeks later and I still keep trying the odd bit of food here and there and it just won't go down.
I have had an endoscope - that was a highly unpleasant experience but it found nothing. I was told to go home and eat and to stop being so stressed.
I have been to seen a sports therapist and she has found that I have very very tight neck and jaw muscles. But it still feels like food won't go down, although I did feel better once I had seen her.
Trying to get another appointment with the doctor is like golddust.
I am normally a fit and healthy 37yr old woman, mum of three. I love my food and I want to eat. Thing is, this has gone on so long now I have gone past being hungy. I think this is probably a bit physcologial now as well but the tightening really does happen.
The back of my neck, round to the front and up under the jaw is so tight.
Please someone tell me I am not going nuts and that I will be able to eat again.

The alternative is a throat spray which is normally a lot less effective than a sedative.
The information from an endoscopy is important for a proper diagnosis, and a good clinic will do their best to put you at your ease, as far as possible.

Dear pipsqueak, i have just registered with patient and to my surprise i read your article about your difficulty in swallowing. If it's any help i started to have difficulty with my throat early last year, and in November last i felt rather off colour early start of the week. My wife had to go to hospital on the Thursday for a result on a mini stroke, i started early that day to feel very norsiated and my wife had left me a bowl in the living room just in case" thank God"!!! i vomitted around 3pints of blood. Just as it was meant to be she rang to tell me that she was on her way home. When i told her i could'nt talk as the blood was gushing from my mouth, so I'll cut the story short now after paramedics arrived i was classed on the danger list. So i bet you are bored, but the final chapter is i cant swollow solid food but can only take liquid's and also can hardly get my words out properly. All tests have proven nothing sinister going on, but like you i am at my ends witt, as I'm so embarrassed with my condition, your not alone kind regards Malcolm.

Have undergone any Neurologist consultation? An assessment of your neurological status is must after that you may be referred to Speech Language Pathologist who expertise in Swallowing Disorder. He/She will assess your swallowing mechanism and if required a Modified Barium Swallow or a FESS test may be recommended.
For now you may try semisolid or puree diet and try swallowing in 'chin tuck' position.

Thanks for your comment, i am seeing so many people at my local hospital, neurology department, swallowing X-rays and many are scratching their heads. I give them the greatest respect as they are doing the best they can!!!. But, my speech is getting worse and swallowing still no better as I really can't eat dry food and yes bread has to have plenty of butter on, and solids have to be mashed. Kindest regards Malcolm
