Swelling after hydrocelectomy

Just wondering if anyone has had the same experience I have had following a hydrocelectomy.  I am now 10 weeks post op and still have some swelling (egg size) I saw my doc about 5 weeks after surgery and he didnt seem concerned and doesnt want to see me again till December. I have read it can take 3-6 months for all swelling to subside but I was just curiouse if anyone has had the same problem as me as I am still kind of nervous.

Hello, I had surgery 3 weeks ago on my right testicle for an Hydrocele. the wound is healing perfectly, but my testicle is still quite swollen, is this normal? on the other side, my doctor allowed me to resume classes just now and when I get back home from uni I feel a slight pain (more like a discomfort) in my testicle or groin. Has anyone felt this when you resumed your daily activities?

Yes it can stay swollen for many weeks and may always stay a bit larger. The pain you feel may be the tugging of the testicle on the scrotum as they stitch it to the inside of the scrotum but it loosens over rime.

Hi, I had my hydrocelectomy 10 months ago. The operative side testicle is still swollen larger than an egg. Anyone else have this problem or know if it is common. Last follow up with Doctor was this past November he said swelling would go down but it has not.

Almost 2 years since my surgery and it's still egg size, I went to a new urologist because I was unhappy with my old one and he said it happens and will remain that size.

Hello. Can anyone please explain if they have experienced erectile dysfunction following a hydrocelectomy operation where the sac is removed. I am the most depressed I have ever been in my entire life. My urologist told me to wait up to 6 months for this to resolve.. all the while my penis is shrinking. my penis muscles feel like i'm on drugs. snaller, tighter, sad.. the muscle won't go rock solid and my pains and weird sensations down below are driving me insane. please can someone tell me if they experienced this and got through it! thank you, i really can't cope

Yes Jim, I am having the same issue. I am 4 months post op from my 2nd surgery and I can not get a proper erection if at all, I would say maybe 5 times in that amount of time and none were normal. My penis has also shrunk, sometimes to the point of being an innie. I hope this is not being too descriptive. I am normally 6 inches flaccid and 9 inches hard and now I am lucky to get it firm enough for sex and also it has effected my ability to ejaculate. It's been 4 months now and nothing has improved except my testicle, my last surgery actually brought it back to normal size. I wish I could tell you it will get better but I don't know, I certainly hope so.

Hello Jack! Thank you for your response. Can I ask, were your erections normal after the first op and what was the need for the 2nd op? I am just over a month post op and 24 years old. I had sex 2 weeks ago and everything seemed fine. I masturbated a couple times the following days (couldn't resist). I noticed that my penis wasn't reaching it's full capacity but i can ejaculate very easily despite not being rock hard (usually as i'm sure you know, it's much harder to cum if you're only semi erect) Since then my morning erections have disappeared and my penis feels weaker by the day. Also I was only 6 and a half inches when erect so losing that extra inch is a b***h! I can't control my suicidal thoughts.

I am really sorry for bringing my negative thoughts here but I just need to know that i'm not alone and that I will recover. It may sound shallow but a life without a penis, to me, is a life not worth having.

First thing Jim is to seek help if you are truly suicidal, please don't put it off and think you can deal with cause it's the manly thing to do. I felt terribly depressed about the outcome of my first surgery and sought out a counselor which helped me get past it and understand that I am still a man....there's more to a man than just his penis my friend.

After the first surgery I immediately noticed a change in my erections, softer and much weaker. When I masturbated I could not get a solid erection but even being soft I was able to reach orgasm but the amount of sperm was miniscual.

My second OP was to repair the first OP, and the results were great, my testical is back to normal size but I am still dealing with E.D., I only get morning erections now but as you know, you can't do much with those and you lose them as soon as you get up.

Please take my advice and see a professional about your depression.

Great talking to you and let's keep this going ok?

Hi again. Can you tell me what doctors said the cause of your E.D is and just why the surgery affected it? I have got another referral to see a urologist but the time I have to wait for this seems so long away, I seriously need answers now

      Hello again Jim,

Well, according to my second doctor this is normal and will pass as I heal. It might take a while but it will get better. He said this happens because in my case they opened my scrotal sac and removed the whole testicle. Then totally removed the inner sac around it holding the fluid and after reinserting it back into my scrotom he secured it to the inside wall of my scrotom and then closed me up. With all that pulling and tugging on my testicle as it was outside my scrotom I was going to feel the effects for quite awhile until I healed. I still feel tugging and the occasional twinge of pain but it is normal. All of this plays into the erection difficulties, the sensations and feelings around your penis and scrotom which effects the size as well.

I am curious though, you have not mentioned anything about the amount of ejaculate you produce from sex or self masturbation, is there a notable decrease in you semen? That is something that is very evident about mine, far less than usual.

Hello Jack. I would say the amount I ejaculate has decreased significantly, but more to the point my penis seems almost over stimulated.. Yet not fully erect (it's a difficult feeling to describe but if you've ever done coke and couldn't get it up properly, it feels the same) I have never had problems like this before but now I am actually ejaculating far before my penis gets fully erect (not that it can get fully erect atm) and this is during masturbation which I used to have total control over..and then there is absolutely no hope of getting another hard on for the rest of the day. I sure do hope things will go back to normal. I have never been more regretful in my life.

Your comment does give me some hope though. It does make sense that things are gonna be extra sensitive down there for a while.

I'm mostly worried that my penis is shrinking the longer I go without an erection and I worry that my sperm count has been significantly altered. I am still waiting for my first follow up appointment though.

The amount you ejaculate is really not an issue as much as your desire for a full erection. I am sure your sperm count is fine, the sperm itself is a small portion of your ejaculate. As for your worries about losing size in your penis I think that everything will come back to normal eventually but penis exercises could help you with this, look up some exercises online..there are many..but also the use of a penis pump can help with size possibly but it can help your self image. I hope I am helping you somehow, please let me know if you have tried any of these and if it worked for you, it helped me feel better about myself.

This is a great conversation, it addresses an issue that I know most of us are having yet are afraid to talk about. Please chime in if any of you are feeling the same about this and if you have anything else you would care to share.

      Thanks Jim, let's keep talking

Also did anyone experience erectile dysfunction from the procedure and recover from it 100%?

According to what i know, once you go through hydrocelectomy, your scrotum will never go back to its norma size, it will reduce yes but it will look slightly different from the other side, good news is, there is no more fluid, hydrocele has gone, but the stiches form scar tissue which will increase your scrotum and might make you have discomfort. Anyway, surgery is never been a good thing but you have to go throuht it if your body requires one or more.

I am very curious as to whether we have all had the same operation.. It seems some of you have had more than 2 hydrocelectomys? I thought a hydrocelectomy is the removal of the tunica vaginalis is it not? At least that is what I have had done (on one side) It's impossible to have 3 of those surgeries. I am very concerned as this part of the body is really a part of the tunica albuginea, a part of the body known to help sustain erections. Maybe i'm looking into it all a bit too much and letting my depression take over. I have to say I feel like a fool for doing this though as I am discovering there really is no health benefit from removing a hydrocele. I do also wonder if perhaps the hydrocele could infact pump fluid into the penis during erections? After studying many diagrams and so on it does seem like a true possibility although it is rarely spoken.. I mean, all that stuff is connected. It's not so much a sac of fluid but a network of fluid filled vessels. I wonder this because since my loss of morning erections post-op, any attempt at an erection I have made, my penis just seems less full.. less girthy to be honest. (Again, hopefully just a bloody phsycological thing. And sorry for any unwanted imagery, but I greatly appreciate hearing everyones opinions and about all of your experiences)

Anyway! I will see my urologist on Dec 3rd. That will be just short of 6 months after my operation. I will be asking my urologist absolutely all of my questions hahaha because as you may have noticed I am almost definitely overthinking things and I just need to know the facts. But then again, am I overthinking? I think it's fair to say that most men wouldn't want to live without a penis. That's what erectile dysfunction feels like.

Anyway, on the bright side, I have to admit that my testicles are looking so much more symmetrical than before. They do still ache and where my testicle is attached to the scrotum now. It is definitely still sore on the inside. I'm trying not to touch it too much though. As far as my testicles go, looks fine on the outside but the inside needs much more time.

I think you are very much over thinking this, and as arousal is as much psychological as physical (if not more the former) having it all sit in the back of your mind is not to your benefit.

We’re all talking about the same surgery, yes normally it is only once per side and the second or third surgeries above are not for the same thing (addressing a fluid filled sac).

As for the scrotum & penis functionality, there is nothing in the scrotum or the layers around the teste that function in any way to increase “firmness” or strength of ejaculation.  If memory serves me correctly, the muscles in the scrotum walls are somatic (body aka primative brain controlled) innerviated smooth muscles (unlike striated in your biceps or quads) that you have no conscious control over and function much like those in your stomach, intestines, etc.  They are there simply to regulate the tempurature of your testes, as sperm are not fans of high temps.  If they were to rise (constrict) before ejaculation, it’s only to shorten the length of the vas defrons which allows them increase their diameter... like stretching a long balloon or rubber hose... as fluid flows easier through a larger pipe than a smaller one.

I can’t recall the biological mechanisms of glandular secretions (what’s going on here), but muscles are not involved.

Anyways, keep your chin up.  You write, it is still sore and you are trying not to touch it consciously.  Just a thought, but your body might just be doing the same thing subconsciously.... it’s much easier to cause pain (aka bang things around) when all is firm than loose & soft.  Food for thought anyways.
