Swollen ankles anybody?

Posted , 10 users are following.

I have just come across this group and I am already happier knowing that I am no longer alone with fibromyalgia!   As you guys seem to have much more experience than the 3 different doctors i have seen so far i was wondering whether anyone else has really swollen and painful ankles?  I wake up stiff every morning and my ankles are swollen and this just gets worse as the day goes on even if i put my feet up whenever possible.  I would love any advice and feedback you have to offer x

Oh bless you mylovely! Yes we are a great group on here and all support each other. Unfortunately I'm not able to help with your problem. My ankles do swell but not badly and although stiff first thing in the morning, this resolves during the morning. I just wanted to welcome you to the forum, and hopefully some of the others may be able to help. Good luck. xx

Me to I just wanted to welcome you on here, my ankles are very stiff upon waking but ease as the morning goes on,

So I can't give you advice either, a friend of mine suffers from very swallen ankles and they don't seem to ease at all even after resting, I will have a word with her to see what works for her,

Someone will get back to you with some useful advice, good luck and take care.

    Hi Mylovely

I do get swollen ankles but this only occurs when I have been on my feet all day and I have not rested.  I usually do get stiffness in the morning but not with the ankles.

Hope you get relief soon.  Try to take rest whenever you can and rest your feet elevated up. biggrin

Hi, I don't get swollen ankles either but could it be water retention ? I believe some of the tablets we take can cause water retention

Hi, sorry about that IPad us playing up! Water retention could be the problem, try drinking green tea as a diuretic first, if you see an improvement go see the doctor, it could be easily controlled. I wake stiff every morning, I drink a cup of green tea eat toast or cereal, take painkillers, rest in a recliner till I feel able to move. Some days the furthest I get is the bathroom others I can clean the whole house and do some garden but these are few and I always suffer for at least a few days afterwards. Fingers crossed it's water retention and you can get some relief!

    Hi mylovely.

welcome cheesygrin.....I had swollen ankles...I had them on waking in the morning or walking short distances. This is from Fibro, I had it constantly...every day for around 4 mths even my wrists, fingers and face were swollen too. There wasn't anything specific that caused it to happen because my diet and exercise have not changed. I was taking Ibuprofen at that time approx 2 tablets a day and currently I only take 1 or 2 a fortnight and only when completely necessary. I have had a lot of allergic reactions to medicines so tend to take them by trial and error.... if I suffer a side effect I stop and then pick up on them again 6-8 weeks later.

Sorry I 'm rambling. Basically yes you can get swellings, I think its inflamation personally..... from cells which  are sent to areas to fight pain....not explaining this very well, hope you can decipher.

I took pictures of my ankles and wrists....they shocked me because they were huge and the wrists looked like large mounds or lumps. Sometimes I couldn't get any shoes on either.

Glad to say its all gone now....apart from knuckle joint swellings on hands they come and go. Hope you resolve your swollen ankles and feel better soon.

    Take care Angie

       Hi Angel (and everyone else)

Thanks for your reply, I dont think you were rambling - all info is good info x

It is good to hear other peoples experiences and it stops you from thinking that youre going mad if you know that somebody else has had the same and it also gives me more confidence to approach the doctor with new symptoms.

Ive had a **** last week with so many new things cropping up all at once and i have been crumbling under the pressure.

I woke up the other morning with a really sore hand and wrist and was too scared to take it out from under the duvet.  Poor hubby investgated and even he winced - I had what looked like half a boiled egg under the skin where my wrist and hand join.  The skin was white cos it was so full of fluid. I cried.  Crying causes headaches and around we go again lol.  But on a positive, the more i moved my hand doing normal things the more the swelling went away.  It has now just become a new place for daily pain and slight swelling.  The swollen ankles became much more terrifiying.  My legs felt tight as though they too were swollen but they didnt visibly look much different until i sat down for breakfast and they started to leak from my thighs - needless to say i have a doctors appointment this week and hopefully he will give me something to stop this before it happens again!!!!!    Fibro - never a dull day!

Hi all  I havent been actually diagnosed with fibromyalgia yet, I shall be starting my own post for advice later on this but as it is 02.35 in the morning would just like to give this lady a reply for my first ever post.  Yes my ankles are always looking like tree trunks as well as my feet everyday my left leg is the worse.  If I try to sit with my feet up it makes no difference they get more and more swollen throughout the day.
