Swollen lymph nodes for 7-8 years

Hello,

I'm a 22 year old male and as the title says I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and armpits for almost 8 years. It started when I was around 15 years old with a one or two nodes getting swollen in my neck. The GP said it was nothing so I haven't paid any more attention to them. Over the following few weeks I noticed a few more in my neck and a few in my armpits. They are around 0.5cm - 2.5cm in size, hard, painless and movable and haven't changed in these 7-8 years. I have no other symptoms.

Any help would be appreciated.

hi , just came across this thread while searching for explanations for my swollen armpits. i noticed it some 7 years back and went to the doctor, he examined me and said they were just swollen lymph nodes and would go away. 7 years later the are still there. i noticed while pregnant  and after my caeserean operation my armpits would swell and become hard and they would go down when the wound heals. anytime i use anti perspirants it becomes painful and sometimes when am ill i get strobbing pains there. i am scared to go to the doctors and i touch and check the swelling like 10 times a day. reading some of these post have made me feel a bit better but i still have that worry. would check it again next year .

    I hope it's still active

My anxiety strikes in when i realized i have 3 swollen lymph nodes around my neck. I tried to search on the internet and it makes my anxiety even worse.

Although my lymph nodes are almost the same with you guys hard & painless, but mine can't be move/stay in the same place. And it makes me feel different and start to worried too.

I don't have other symptoms such as fever or night sweats and my lymp nodes are very very small. Can't be seen but only can be feel.

I don't know wether my lymp nodes is normal because it can't be move and the internet say that i might get cancer (hopefully not)

Ps. Sorry for my bad english

I've had a swollen lymph node on my neck and still do. My mom first noticed it when I was like 7 and when I went to the doctor they checked if it would keep swelling. Here I am today and still don't know and I don't think it can be cancer cuz I don't feel sick at all, sometimes I forget I have a swollen node. I'm not really sure and I also have anxiety so idk if I should worry.

    Hi,

I don't know if anyone even follows this anymore, but here goes. I guess just looking for any advice.

I have swollen lymph nodes in my groin, under my armpit's, neck, behind the ear, and one in the back left bottom of the head (the one that scares me most). I noticed the groin ones like many years ago but I didn't think anything of them. I am 22 years old 130ish pounds I workout intensely at least 4 days a week and eat decently healthy. But these are really bothering me. I had strep throat I was one medication but the nodes haven't gone away they have been there for at least 6 months before that they might have been there I wasn't checking.

So I went to the doctor got a thyroid test, a complete blood count, and mono blood test. All came back normal which eased me a little bit. My doctor put me on allergy medicine thinking that could be the reason for my constant congestion but it's been like 3 weeks ando nothing hashort changed. I go back next week for a follow up but I saw this and wanted to post.

Anyways here are some symptoms or things going on with me beside the swollen nodes:

    Minor headaches

    Lots of congestion

    Running nose

Drainage leading to spitting it out (I know that's gross)

    Soft stool often

And the most concerning is my night nausea, I wake up a couple nights a week usual have to use the restroom then I feel nauseous for about a half hour then I'm able to go back to sleep. I never throw up just feel like it. It sucks.

Well I know a lot of you all have mentioned health anxiety and I definitely have that too. I just want to know what's wrong the unknown scares me a lot.

Thanks for ready any insight would be great.

Um they are mostly hard and move able I just recently noticed a lump on my face? Next to my nose under the skin. I am not sure if that is related but you is also hard and moveable. My doctor just today referred me to a blood specialist, she said if they say all clear than that's pretty much the end of it. But I will probably still be concerned, are most cancers able to be found in blood tests? That's what concerns me most.

So I got a bunch of blood tests done and the onend that came back odd was the ANA test which is abnormal antibodies so I am going to see a specialist and I may have lupus. Just wanted to update you all.

Sorry for the late response i just saw this, turns out I don't have lupus. They don't know why my ana test was high. I think I have developed celiac disease and that may be the reason for my night nausea. I still have swollen nodes and I have noticed one in my upper armpit when I brush my hair or lift my arm to put on deodorant. Is this something I should be concerned with? Is anyone still out there? I could use advice!

I would be concerned if the lymph nodes continue to be swollen and especially in more than one area. If it continues it wouldn’t hurt to request a catscan. Good luck.

Am I glad that I found this page. I have had big lymph nodes on my neck for 4 years. Found them when I was 16 and now I am 20. They never go away and cause me anxiety. They stay same size all the time expect when I am sick. Then they swell little bit but always go back to their normal size but never disappear. They are hard and painless but movable. I also have one in my occipital which is hard and doesen't move. They don't grow. Doctor just said that don't worry about them. I had a MRI of my head about month ago (for other reasons) and nothing showed up. Few of the "snap" weirdly when I slide them between my fingers. I wonder what can cause them.

I know what you've got there (8-9 years of lymph nodes everywhere and going strong huhu)

I get that 'snapping' thing you describe too, especially when I try to pinch the nodes under my jaw and slide 'em almost on my cheek's side (gross I know, but I seem to get very flexible/mobile nodes since I have a genetic connective tissue disease : P) to me it's reassuring since it means your node has that 'elastic' feature. but it also means you may be touching them a bit harshly.

I know it's tempting but better leaving them alone, otherwise they may get a bit sore.

the 'swelling when sick, then going back to normal size and remaining mobile and silent" is the NORMAL way nodes function, don't worry about it. Mine would hurt when sick then go back to normal. They won't vanish; they're sentinels just in case another virus/infection strikes back so your body can defend itself. EVERYONE has nodes. Without nodes we would lack our local barriers against bacterias and such.

Something as trivial as a cold, dry nose/strep throat, acne, canker sore and such can cause lymph nodes to react. TBH I feel like mine are overreacting for minor stuff (and I'm a naturally overreacting person irl, what a coincidence). My doctor also mentionned he could feel them more easily on some people depending on their anatomy.

I guess not everyone has the same nodes after all! x)

However, if they are essentially on your neck, consider having your thyroid checked. I felt what I thought was a big new node on my right side, and what the ultrasound revealed was a small case of hypothyroidism (I don't even get a treatment yet).

If they ever get bigger and fixed, and spread suddenly, better see your doctor. But since what you describe is a healthy node mecanism, with normal features, I would not worry at all. Enjoy life : D!!
