Swollen tonsils after oral?

Posted , 11 users are following.

27 year old female. Had a sexual encounter with a guy of unknown status. No actual sex, only performed oral sex without swallowing or coming in contact with any semen. 2 days later I woke up with a sore throat. Gonorrhea, mono, strep and chlamydia swabs all came back clean. Freaking out that I could possibly have HIV. No other symptoms other than persistent swollen tonsils. Anyone deal with this?

If you had unprotected oral, you definitely somehow came in contact with semen, unless it lasted no more than a few seconds and he was not pre-stimulated. However, symptoms showing up that quickly doesn't seem quite like it. You must have had tonsillitis coming your way before your sexual encounter. Whatever the case, I hope you recover soon because I know that tonsillitis causes extreme discomfort.

Precum potentially, although I didn't notice anything. I stopped sucking and finished him with my hand. That's what I mean by no contact with ejaculation. Thank you! I hope so as well.

You're welcome. I'm thinking that the tonsillitis coincided with the sexual encounter because of the short window. But you shouldn't be that scared. Is this your very first tonsillitis?

My tonsils have been swollen for 6 weeks and counting. Didn't know tonsillitis could last this long.

So you went to the doctor and they didn’t give you anything???? You need some medicine for any type of bacteria! It’s been over a month and getting worse? Go to a free clinic or find another doctor and fast!

I've been 3 -4 times since late March. All times it was said to be viral and they will not give me antibiotics as antibiotics don't work for viral pharyngitis. Each time I'm told it will go away, it doesn't so I go back and told the same thing.

If it is viral, antibiotics  won’t help unfortunately.  It’s funny though because most of the time doctors are just taking a guess if they can’t identify the pathogen causing the inflammation, as they test for very specific pathogens.

Besides the vitamins, try gargling with salt water a couple times a day. It helps with the inflammation as and also it is said to help with tonsil stones (if that is what is going on).

Tonsil stones are very annoying and can be exacherbated by oral sex and other bacteria and they feel very swollen and smelly afterward

You're right about the smell. I'd stayed close to someone who had it. The putrid smell from the person's breath was unbearable. But that's how nature made it. The tonsils swell in the presence of infections.

Oral transmission of HIV is really low, so I would not be concerned and jump to this conclusion. Unless there was a lot of blood involved you should not worry. Still get tested to put your mid at ease but stats are with you.

I could be any common  bacteria strain or virus causing the issue, if you have ruled out these main STIs. I would give it a little time and hopefully it goes away.

    Be safe and good luck.

Most tonsil infections are viral and they need to run a course before the body kills off or suppresses the virus. Make sure you are taking vitamins and loading up on vitamin C as well. It can’t hurt.

A male friend got infected with HIV from oral sex. It is really rare to get infected that way though and you certainly wouldn't have symptoms so soon.  It is worth knowing that while transmission that way is rare, it is possible. A lot of people don't realise , including my male friend..

The risk from giving a b*****b to an HIV-positive man not on treatment is at most 1 in 2,500 according to CDC. Really low...

Are you sure? Because there is only one case of infection with oral sex and it might not transmitted that way and if that case was infected from oral sex it was because of her husband's severe gum bleeding.
