Symptoms frozen shoulder, confused help.

Hi, I have been suffering with frozen shoulder, symptoms for last six months. I have had no tests or X-rays. I have seen four Drs who have said different things from trapped nerve in my neck, frozen shoulder, arthritis etc. I am having physio and had a cortisone injection, this has given me a lot of movement back , I still can't do my own bra or do backwards movement with my arm, but I am now getting pains in the muscle tissue in my arm right side, it's like sharp shooting pain and I don't get any sleep still. I'm more frustrated with actually getting a proper diagnosis . The other arm is starting to go the same was as my right one I'm at a loss, I even had a letter to go private but doctors would not recommend me , any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.eek

the symptoms you describe sound very much like my own , and i was told i have F/S i had an op on my right shoulder 3 years ago which was a success , but now my left shoulder is doing the same , so i had physio, injections just waiting now to see what happens next. your doctors dont seem to be doing much for you , have you asked for a second opinion ?

Thanks for letting me know I am not alone in this.

I have seen four different Dr's at same surgery!

They have said trapped nerve. Arthritis and frozen shoulder all in same arm but how do they know? They won't even give me an dray they say it's a waste of time

I have third physio on the and he won't refer me either .

Just fed up and tired with the pain. It has changed but gone more muscular in right arm now and gives way at times.

You poor thing.....can you go to a different doctors surgery all together. I think you need to start fresh with someone new. If they have done no X-rays or scans then they are just guessing and you deserve more than that.....this is your life that's being interrupted by this incidious ailment and you need help and you need it now.....GOOD LUCK

Oh well that's good news that hour having an X-ray......that will show arthritis or not. If it were me I would be taking the X-rays to another doctor that is interested in your well being

    HI Eve,

If I were you I would go straight away to an orthopaedic shoulder surgeon to get a proper diagnosis, even if you have to pay for it privately, it is worth knowing what you are dealing with at least.  I would also try to get an mri scan if you can on the NHS, if not the surgeon will advise you on the best way to go.  Don't waste your time on GP's they havent got a clue, you need someone with an in depth knowledge of the shoulder.

I hope you get your answers soon and start on the road to recovery.

    Take carex

      I agree with Cheryl....

it wasn't really till I went to my Orthapaedic specialist that things were confirmed and an action plan was put in place. My GP fudged around and looking back now probably didn't take it too seriously. She seemed to catch on when I kept asking for stronger pain meds

hi Cheryl, thanks for your support I had a letter from my private medical insurance stating all they needed to get was a referal from her but she wouldn't do it I have no idea why though xx

Hi Eve.  I would also recommend an orthopedic surgeon vs GP. You may want to ask for a referral to a pain center.  They can manage your pain mess long term and more effectively than a GP or surgeon.  X-rays and MRI are essential tools to help diagnosis you properly in my opinion.  I broke my shoulder and then it froze.  After, therapy and injections, surgery helped me the most.  I have most of my range back but still have pain at night.  Hang in there.  There are good physicians out there. Keep looking until you find one.

I'm so sorry to hear this - it's the most awful pain. As others have said, you need to see a shoulder specialist ASAP. I paid for and appointment £180 and and ultra sound scan to confirm the diagnosis £100. You can then go back on the NHS if needed. It's not cheap but what price pain?

I hope you can get some help and relief very soon. I ended up having surgery, which has been very successful.

    Kind regards

    Karen

Thanks karen, unfortunately I am experiencing pain in my joints and muscles as well as both shoulders now, something is wrong and I'm not convinced it's frozen shoulder. I just feel such a winger but just want a diagnosis x

    Hi Eve,

I am no doctor but your symptoms sound like classic frozen shoulder to me.  I was surprised at my diagnosis as I didnt really have pain in the shoulder, it is in the arm, the tricep, the bicep, the deltoid - all of these muscles extend up into the shoulder, as the shoulder tightens up it puts pressure and squeezes the muscles, it also affects your neck and collarbone, elbows, wrists - I used to get weird shooting pains up into my neck, back of the head, I really thought I had something awful like MS.

Not sure where you are, but if you are in the UK near London - The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore is excellent, they have a shoulder section in the Spire Bushey, consultation would be no more than £200, dont worry about a referral, just ring up, get an appointment and go.  They have two specialists there, who deal with this day in day out, then get it sorted with your medical insurance - tha'ts what I did, you don't need a gp's permission.  Other hospitals nearer where you live will also do the same.

I also had it starting in the other arm - it makes you feel so ill, tired and frustrated, If I hadn't had the op I think I would have gnawed it off with my own teeth!

Once you know what you are dealing with you will start to feel better.  Good luck and take control, you have suffered long enough.

    Take care xx

Thanks Cheryl, that's exactly how I'm feeling I want to rip my arm off, I'm lying here at three in the morning in tears with pain it's bloomin awful. I'm about an hour and half from London but I have physio tomorrow lunchtime. If I get no joy I will definitely phone up my local spire as I feel desperate, the pain killers and anti inflams don't seem to take the edge off it either, feel like a right nag and non coper  which I promise is far from my happy norm x

Honestly Eve.....I don't know how you do physio.

It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.

      Dosnt Physio aggravate the pain?

What sort of physio do they do?

You poor thing....I feel for you. My surgery is on Friday, hopefully then I will be able to see a light at the end of the tunnel.....and I can't wait
