Taken Pred for two weeks and blood pressure is sky high

Has anyone experiencing taking Pred within two weeks and blood pressure shot up? Took Pred 15mg for PMR two weeks now, went to see neurologist yesterday because the CT scan shown a slight mass in the artery and had BP checked there and shown 190 on top panicking can't remember the bottom reading😡😡 and the neurologist is going to arrange the Mir scan to check the neck and head.

Can anyone tell me if it is ok to have celery,Apple and cucumber juice/ beetroot ,Apple, carrots juice and will not contribute to my blood sugar level?

I have followed the forum many times now, and understand what Pred can contribute to a body.

I am a juice fan and I know what can they do but I don't want the extra sweetness is topping up the sugar lever for me.

Many thanks to all

My rheumy said I should give up any added salt to help BP. Beetroot is supposed to help reduce BP. Juicing is apparently supposed not to be a good idea as it can change the constituency of the foods.  You need to eat it whole. I cut out gluten and simple carbs as I heard this could stop the moon face, also tried to limit root veggies particularly parsnips as they have quite a lot of sugar.

Thank you Ptolemy. I gave already changed to lo-salt and I don't take salt that much. I shall bring this up to my GP next week when I see him. Does it mean carrots too? I am using broccoli couliflower and snow peas/sugar snap for veg. Baby Karl and dark green leaf. Just hope I won't get moon face. Wonder is that anything to do with water retention too?

I must admit I do eat carrots I don't think they are quite as bad as parsnips. I love carrots. Steroids cause our fat to move about causing moon face, buffalo hump and thickening around the midriff while our legs and arms get thinner. I think there are nicknames such as lemon or potato people!

Since getting PMR I have become a food nerd and also have been reading books on the gut, such as Gut and the Diet Myth.

I have become a nutrition bore, all my friends are talking about gut microbes and prebiotics now!! I find myself tut tutting at people's trolleys in the supermarket, I am becoming a nerd of the first water!

I love to hear about it if you don't mind telling me.

On first being diagnosed I started looking at anti inflammatories, calcium rich foods, vit D, potassium etc etc based on the loss of nutrients caused by steroids and also to help the side effects. The internet is really very good. I suppose the important thing is to have a well balanced diet. I include things like turmeric, which I even have in scrambled egg, oily fish, calcium rich foods and also pineapple. I do not eat red meat, mainly because I don't like it! I suppose I would need to write a book on on my nerd journey. I poo pooed the gut idea and then heard a programme on radio about the book Gut written by a doctor. This got me onto gut microbes and keeping them happy. Very little research has been done about looking after our gut until recently and it now seems that there could be a lot more to it than we realise.

Try to find on the internet the CBC programme The Nature of Things with David Suzuki.  Over the past couple of years they've done a couple of shows about the gut microbiome.  Fascinating.

Me too a great believer of nutrition. I started to look into the food that says is helping with PMR and avoid some. But is not much different from my daily intake. I added a few more anti inflammatories like beetroot, mangoes and banana for potassium. Still have not a chance to get pineapple (too heavy to carry now) shall make a trip today just getting pineapple haha. There were days I could carried two full bags of shopping and walked ten minutes. Now two small bags of less than 3 kilo each and arms hurt the next day. I believed in gut business too, a chiropractor friend of my son said yes ago: is no good to take all the vitamins when your guts not absorbing it. So I do take billibioactive now and again. I have stop taking it since I had the PMR problem. Do you think is still safe to take it?

I do try to avoid pill forms if I can. Ask the pharmacist if not sure though. I am much more aware of fibre nowadays that takes a while to get to our gut microbes, which apparently they love. I did hear they like alcohol too, perhaps that is wishful thinking!

I take Acidophilus chewable for gut when I remember. Not done it since I had PMR. Will check with doctor next week if it is ok to take. Nothing is straight forwards, has to spread everything hrs between and quite house bounding too.
