Taken Pred for two weeks and blood pressure is sky high

Has anyone experiencing taking Pred within two weeks and blood pressure shot up? Took Pred 15mg for PMR two weeks now, went to see neurologist yesterday because the CT scan shown a slight mass in the artery and had BP checked there and shown 190 on top panicking can't remember the bottom reading😡😡 and the neurologist is going to arrange the Mir scan to check the neck and head.

Can anyone tell me if it is ok to have celery,Apple and cucumber juice/ beetroot ,Apple, carrots juice and will not contribute to my blood sugar level?

I have followed the forum many times now, and understand what Pred can contribute to a body.

I am a juice fan and I know what can they do but I don't want the extra sweetness is topping up the sugar lever for me.

Many thanks to all

Lee, after being on 15 mm of pred I noticed my bp went to 140/100. I normally take my own bp and my husband's so I noticed this pretty quickly. I brought this to the attention of my gp and rheumatologist. They both said it was from the pred and I am being treated for the duration. Interestingly, before they started treatment, when I went down from 15 to 14 my bp went down to 140/90. This is still unhealthy. We expect, as I taper down, the bp will decrease and we can reduce or eliminate the bp med. I am 73 and started some 13.5 doses.

Hi karenjaninaz, I am pretty new to the Pred and hope I can tapering down next week when I see my GP. I am 66 and managing with pain very well with 15mg. I was told yesterday I have to take aspirin 75mg for blood thining. I took one last nigh and it seems ok. Night time is only time as I take Pred in the morning so there is a big gap between the two. Just keep fingers cross and hope for the best.

Lee one thing to check is stomach problems taking both pred and aspirin, are you taking a PPI to help this? Are you taking uncoated or coated pred? I am glad you have sorted the pain out at 15mg, good luck with the reducing.

The neurologist advised me to take 75mg aspirin which is for heart. I think the high blood pressure reading is a bit concern to him plus my CT scan doesn't explained very well incase of a mini stroke had happen in the pass and yet I am waiting to have MRI scan to have better reading of my head and neck. I am taking uncoated prednisolone.

Hi Lee, I see that you are taking Omeprazole, that should hopefully look after any stomach problems caused by the aspirin and uncoated pred. I don't know if your doctor has told you to take vit D and calcium supplement to counteract the pred possibly causing bone density problems. You should also be having a Dexascan to check your current bone density if you haven't had one organised yet.

I really sympathise. PMR by itself is life changing. Hope things go well with your doctor next week.

    Hi lee63556

I frequently use our juicer and I don't think it has had any adverse effect on my PMR. I make a green juice with cucumber, celery, kale, ginger root, apples and sometimes arugula.

Since I've realized I have silent acid reflux I've been experimenting with drinking my juice with my morning prednisone to see if it reduces my symptoms....just started this yesterday.

Ive had PMR over 3 1/2 years and been on Pred for just over 3 years. Currently reducing from 4 mg to 3 3/4 mgs.

My doctor prescribed me omeprazole once a day and that has help me quite a bit. Some said that stop stomach producing acid to stop the reflux and not enough acid to digest food. But I felt better because I don't get the  reflux during my sleep. I do have a tablespoon of apple cider veniger with a glass of water before having lunch. I am new to PMR and still a long way to find out what is going to happen to me. Prednisolone fight the pain off and I felt a bit weak in walking and not enough strength in myself to do what I used to do.

Nice to talk with you and take care
