Taking Levothyroxine at night improved my life.

I was put on 50mcg of the stuff at xmas 2013, then after 3months put on 100mcgs. First of all I felt all over the place, disorientated like I had vertigo, then I changed to taking the pill last thing at night and the difference is remarkable, I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and active, the feeling of disorientation has gone and my recent blood test was excellent and the doseage was working. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and found changing to a nightly dose has really helped them.

It's now been over a month since I switched to taking levothyroxine at night. I did find out that taking it at bedtime was not the best time. I found even taking it at 10 pm, by the next afternoon I was dragging. So I now take it when I wake up in the middle of the night which is usually around 4:30 am. By the time I wake up at 6:30 I'm feeling good and it lasts until I go to bed at 10. Taking it at night sure has changed how I feel. If you are thinking about trying this, do it! You can always change back to the morning, but I know I won't. i'm still amazed how much better I feel.

Hello I am new to this. Just started a week ago. I've been taking it at about ten at night and make sure not to have eaten at least an hour or two before. It's easier for me at night because I must eat first thing in the AM or I feel sick. Is a couple hours long enough for my food to have digested and my stomach be empty? And how long do I have to wait after to eat again? My hubby works odd hours and sometimes we ear very late. Thank you for any advice.

Hi it’s recommended to leave three to four hours from your last meal to taking levo. Digestion takes about fours hours. Then one hour after taking levo for eating

Wow, this really seems like it's SO difficult to pick a optimal time!! All the studies I have read seem to point to improved levels of absorbtion by far when taking at bedtime. I have just started on 50mcg 2 days ago. I am not one to eat breakfast, so morning isn't an issue...but setting an alarm on weekends or days off (or 2 hours before NEEDING to get up) just to take a pill is very off-putting to me. I have been taking it in the afternoon on an empty stomach and eating 30 mins later. However, I am seeing it's better to wait and hour and I am starving by the time I get home from work. I want to change to 10 P.M. to be able to take calcium supplements in the morning. Has anyone else noticed major success with bedtime dosing as I am a newbie...thanks!

brooke50820 I've read that some take their thyroxine (Levo) in the morning and some take it at night.  I'd taken my Levothyroxine for many years in the morning and I just felt awful throughout the day.  Then I researched and read that taking it at night (no food two hours prior) was optimal for my body to utilize its effects). So, I do feel some better taking Levothyroxine before bedtime (again with no food 2 hours prior) and like you, I don't have to wait two (2) long torturous hours in the a.m. to eat. Hope this helps!

Tried taking it at night but you can't take certain foods or supplements four hours before....which was the hard part. So went bsc2k to mornings which is just as hard bc my bs is low in am and I want to eat ASAP but have to.wait wait... try.to take it if I wake during sleep..usually too tired. It's.a big pain for me. Especially no calcium no coffee.until 4hrs later.

      Hi

If taking thyroid meds in the morning, I’m sure it’s 1 hour from taking the meds to drinking / eating

The 3-4 hour rule is only if taking meds at night time. I have my last meal at 7pm then take meds 10:30-11pm

Thanks everyone for all the advice...SO many pro's and con's. My big thing is to not disturb normal lifestyle as much as possible. I have stuck to taking at 10P.M and no meals after 6ish. When I leave for work...I am an up and out sort of person, grab a banana or kind bar...take calcium, and go. Waking up super early just to take a pill, especially then following that schedule on the weekends was bonkers to me. I do feel more rested and sleep better when taking at bedtime. I guess a lot has to do with lifestyle and preferences, but I'm sticking to bedtime for now. Thanks again everyone for your advice!

I was originally taking Thyroxin 50 in the evening. Last year I was advised doctor friends to take them in the morning. Besides the inconvenience of having to postpone my breakfast, as well as the inconvenience of not being able to take milk products for at least 2 hours, I put on 5 kgs. I have hardly been eating, and yet the weight kept creeping up. I changed the time back to evening a couple of weeks ago, and I am now losing weight!
