Taking Levothyroxine at night improved my life.

I was put on 50mcg of the stuff at xmas 2013, then after 3months put on 100mcgs. First of all I felt all over the place, disorientated like I had vertigo, then I changed to taking the pill last thing at night and the difference is remarkable, I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and active, the feeling of disorientation has gone and my recent blood test was excellent and the doseage was working. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and found changing to a nightly dose has really helped them.

Antihistamines? I take em too, I don't worry about when where or how.. Ask your Dr. If the concern is there, better yet research it. I take all mine at once or I'll Forget. Just like they say 1st thing on an empty stomach.. some of us do better at night. It depends on the individual. You are you, a generic universal explanation may or may not apply to you. Don't drive yourself crazy with your pills. Life is stressful enough.

I started taking 50 mg of Euthyrox (Levothyroxin) at night and woke up most night with strong thigh pains.  Tried massaging them, no help, pain went when lying only on my back; not very useful for me as I sleep on my side.  I have been taking this medication for 19 years with few problems, so I changed back to taking it first thing each morning and all is well, with no pains in thighs.

I've been on thyroid meds for a number of year's 125m  daily.  Have suffered chronic headaches for a few year's  and was hospitalised two years ago and was diagnosed with mengionoma  (benign brain tumour) but they said that this is not the cause of my headaches, at the same time I was also diagnosis with peripheral neuropathy and was put on amitriptyline, but headaches still continued. After a very bad period of depression I decided to come of amitriptyline, and came out of the depression for a while. Still having severe headaches, tiredness and want to give up on life. I take sleeping tabs and xanax at night, xanax is the only thing that gives me relief from headaches. I never knew that thyroid meds could be taken at night time. Sorry for the long text message, but I am amazed by the site and the feed back from others as I thought I was the only one going through this. So it gives me hope and I'm going to change from morning to evening with thyroid meds. Have you any suggestions on time to take thyroid meds and sleeping tablets? Thank you so much for giving your experience on thyroid medication. Maria 😊

    doreen,

Have you ever thought about coming off the levothyroxine (synthetic thyroid hormone prescription) to determine if synthetic thyroid hormones are causing you to have headaches, etc.?  I am now on n.d.t. hormone prescription (pig natural thyroid hormone replacement prescription) and I feel FANTASTIC!

All of the earlier (for 25 years!) myriad of low-t symptoms have ALL dissipated...are ALL gone now...and life is wonderful again!  I was suicidal on levothyroxine due to so many low-t symptoms ie. brain fog, low energy, body aches, vertigo, on and on...so many low-t symptoms!!!...I'd just about given up and then I tried the n.d.t. (natural dessicated thyroid) pig hormone prescription - brand name - Nature-throid (1.25 grain) is what I take...there are other natural thyroid hormone brands also...and my doc allowed the prescription and NIGHT/DAY difference in how I feel and I am beyond grateful and oh so happy to be alive!

Hope you will check this out doreen! You are worth it!

Again, I was on levothyroxine, I even tried synthroid, and levoxyl (all SYNTHETIC) thyroid replacement hormone prescriptions...and I have been so physically and mentally (emotionally) ill again for 25 years up until 9/2/17 and I simply refused to take another synthetic thyroid hormone...I was crying...sobbing telling my doc NO more synthetic!  Some people if you google this issue, you will find cannot tolerate synthetic thyroid replacement hormone prescriptions doreen.  Please check this out...rather than just switch the synthetic

I'm going to literally start this right now, I was prescribed Thyroxine approx 2yrs ago 50mg every morning, but like everyone else here I feel like it could work much better, it never occurred to me, juz to take it at night instead, I'm really hoping this works, although I have a question, I am also taking 200mg slow release Tramadol morning & night, Nexium 40mg morning & night, Meloxicam 15mg nightly and Quetipan 50mg nightly, all my morning tablets are taken about 7-7.30am and all the nightly tablets are taken about 7.30-8pm,so WHAT TIME AT NIGHT should I take the Thyroxine, so it doesn't interact/interfere with all the others etc..

Thanks in advance for your suggestions..

Just began Levothyroxine. 2 weeks on 25 mcg, then raised to 50 mcg. 2 weeks ago. I began taking at 5am in morning. A few days ago I began taking earlier and earlier until last night took at midnight. I go to bed by 10 or earlier, so I wake up to take it. (This is easy since I've slept so poorly for years) RESULT: Last night I slept like a child!! Woke up at 6 AM feeling rested and awake! Extremely rare for me not to have aches, pains, insomnia. I believe that waiting for several hours after eating is very important. Also, I don't take any other meds, just vitamins, at mid-day. So many people take unnecessary drugs to treat symptoms of hypothyroidism. Try to stop taking as many as you can (especially sleep/pain meds). All of these could interference in thyroid hormone absorption. And you probably won't need them once hypothyroidism is solved. Also take vitamins especially DHA & EFA Omega 3, avoid GLUTEN and garbage carbs!

I am so glad to see this discussion. I was on Armour for 6 years after switching from generic synthroid. I wasn't having trouble with the synthroid, I just heard such great results from Armour. I suffer from GERD and control it with my diet but sometimes it's really hard. Anyway, I talked to my doc about going on generic synthroid since I felt it was too strong, I was having trouble sleeping etc.  I could not believe how much better I have felt on the generic. I still have my GERD but nothing like I did in the past on Armour. Anyway, I've noticed that I really have trouble getting up in the morning - really feel lousy, so I'm going to try taking it at night. The People's Pharmacy came out today with an article about taking it at night instead. My hubby just started taking generic synthroid this year and takes it when he wakes up at night which is usually around 4. Then he goes back to sleep. I'm hesistant to do that because I want to make sure I take it at the same time every day.  Anyway, great discussion.

I just created account for the sole purpose of saying thank you very much for your post. I do not have a thyroid gland at all. I had grave's disease and 16 years ago I had a total thyroidectomy. So I will be on synthroid or levothyroxine for the rest of my life. I am completely exhausted every day, Or at least I have been. And over the last 6 months I have experienced a 50 pound weight gain. Some of it I assume has been because of depression and not being able to get out of bad but the exhaustion contributes greatly to the depression and vice versa. I spoke to my doctor about it who said coffee I take my pill in the morning too close to drinking my coffee in that inhibits absorption up to 50% so with this in mind I was wondering if I could take it at night and I found your post. Even just one night taking it at night instead of in the morning I definitely feel the difference and I understand what you're saying - I woke up this morning for the 1st time in years feeling really awake and I actually had a good day. Thank you so much for your input. I appreciate it more than you know.
