Taking Sertraline 100mg

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi, I was taking Sertaline originally at a 50mg dosage which was quite quicly increased to 100mg. After a few months I started to feel like myself again so stupidly stopped taking them. I always feel anxious about going to the drs and although I have felt myself change back to my old ways haven't taken the tablets for months now. Would it be safe for me to just start taking the 100mg tablets I have left from last time or should I go back to the drs and be eased onto them? I would really appreciate your advise

Would definitely ease back on them. At least a week on 50mg and then up them. Did you not have any side effects?

Thank you. I was quite tearful in the first 2-3 weeks but then once the nedication was increased to 100mg I started to 'balance' out. What are other possible side effects?

I'd ease back.... you don't want the side effects. I'm on 100mg and still hoping to feel good soon! Been 2 weeks on 100 mg...but a month since I started on lower dose. Just the waiting game. Anxiety still strikessad

Aww give it a couple more weeks. You will feel worse before you feel better. If after another 2 weeks you're still not feeling any benefit then re-visit your gp. I've decided to just break the tablets in half so that I am taking 50mg for 2 weeks and then i'll take the full 100mg xx

I feel like a month I should be ok by now....but I started at 25mg a month today.... then 50, then 2 week to 75.... now 100..... it's a month today... 5 days at 100.... I hear can take a little. I just can't believe it takes this long. I want the magic pill

.. hah!! I have 3 kids, single working mom...no time for these anxiety/panic attacks .... this med causes them at the beginning sad hoping this medicine was the right choice..... I was on Lexapro for 8 years and stupid me weaned off over summer because "I felt so good"....dummmmmmy!!!!!

Same mistake I made and now I have to start all over again!

I work full time and have 2 babies. There's so much stress out on mums, it's no wonder we have anxiety problems.

Perhaps give them just a little longer as you've only been on the strongest dose for 5 days. If you feel you're not improving or getting worse then see a dr. They may decide to swap the medication.

Hope you start feeling a little mire like yourself soon xx

It's always tempting to reduce or come off the medication when you begin to feel like your old self again but (as you acknowledge yourself) it's never a good idea.

It's important you have a doctor you can trust and feel comfortable with.

I suggest going back and discussing what's happened.

    Hope this helps smile

My God you have been very lucky not to have had any lasting withdrawal effects. You should Never stop cold turkey from these drugs they are powerful mind altering Meds. If you go back on them you will have to endure the side effects again going on them and coming of. They can do lasting damage and the way you are feeling could be withdrawals not relapse, this can happen out of the blue months after stopping them. That's why the research recommends tapering off them slowly over months, 10% each month at a time for a month until O.

No these are nasty drugs please don't go back on them - try other methods of coping, counselling CBT, vitamins and other natural remedies. If you search on this site under ' sertraline withdrawal does it ever stop' you will find lots of helpful advice on alternatives.

    All the best

BTW I am currently tapering off after being on them for two years, Its taken six months and I hope to be off them completely in a couple of months.

Hello Tezes, whilst I'm sure you really mean well to express to others not to take a prescribed medication is not morally right, if you felt these did not work for you that's fine but they have helped a lot of people.

Any withdrawl from ANY SSRI'S Are awful .

Whilst I'm all for natural and I truly hope this works for you it does not work for all of us .

Wishing you well for the future xx

+1 ^.  That's true. I have tried other things myself. Last thing I wanted to do was go on medication. Well this was the last resort.  I've spent too much money on everything else now. Even done the holistic approaches and just can't get through it. So I'm on prescription for the last 2 weeks and the past couple days so far I think I'm starting to feel like my old self again. I'm not one who will think of this as a cure all drug. I want to use it as a tool to help me along with eating better once my nausea is subsided a bit more (nausea was my biggest anxiety symptom) and therapy.

Some people may be stuck with it forever. Whatever it takes to feel better.  Most of us right now are willing to take a drug that could make us feel good for 1 day out of 7.  But if you start feeling better every day don't come off of it right away. Definitely taper slowlyyyyyyyy. Like months of it.  I've tapered to fast with SSRIs before and the outcome isn't great. Basically gives you your anxiety/depression back.

But take it for me, if you feel you need prescriptions, take it. But try try try to keep in mind to make think of them as a tool, not a cure.  They can help you dig deeper into your mind to see what's truly causing you issues through therapy. I'm finding this out myself.  After my foggy brain lifted a bit and I went to talk to a therapist (CBT) I think I may have found my anxiety issue. I left the place with no nausea. And to be honest I haven't had too much nausea the past 2 days now. Only get it when I think about getting nausea when eating. Have to train my thoughts to not spark up like they use to at every meal.

      Wow I just rambled, sorry.

Hi Adam you've not rambled on you've given insight to others which is always appreciated .

I totally agree with your thoughts on not letting a drug be a cure for everything I only wish I had done this year's ago and not wasted years being to scared to do anything .

May I ask if you was given the name of a good therapist from your doctor or did you look yourself? I'm currently looking for a therapist that is credited I know I certainly need CBT many thanks in advance xx

      Hi

sertraline did work for me and everyone's reaction to any drug is very different.... However this a cheap nasty drug, there is action being taken to ban it in the US as it has been proven to cause raised tricygliserides, blood pressure and cholesterol. Whilst I don't want to frighten anyone this drug has cancer listed on the side effects for goodness sake.

For someone who has come off it they have a golden opportunity to use others methods or even safer drugs to help them. If you search on this site for 'what you need to know before taking AD's etc and sertraline withdrawal does it go away you will see that what is happening here is not necessarily a relapse in depression but a withdrawal symptom which can happen out of the blue months after stopping this drug.

i am just urging caution this is not the only medication available and one to be avoided if possible,

best set wishes to all for happier times x

I looked myself. Google is a beautiful thing sometimes. I first looked at what my insurance would cover therapist wise. Then looked for reviews. Definitely look for reviews.

Now-a-days anything gives you cancer. They put it on the labels for legal reasons. They say fruits can give you cancer even. It's still crazy slim you'd have anything happen to you. Some even say Omega-3 cause/prevent cancer.  So naturals have the same things said about them too.

Your points are truly valid and heard but what if someone was prescribed this medication for really bad periods? As we know there are all sorts of AD that are prescribed for pain management not for depression etc etc

All AD have some sort of profound effect on everyone who takes them, and then you could go down the road of pain killers, addictive and awful on the liver the list is endless I think what people need to realise is anything that is chemically man made there is always going to be a side effect.

Valium -the wonder drug back years and years ago, it's still used with caution of course.

I know your not scaremongering and I truly hope natural works for anyone that is willing to go down this road but remember even natural can cause unwanted effects, anything that is bioactive has the potential to react.

As for cancers well that's no big Suprise there, unless everyone is willing to eat fresh home grown and lead a healthy life style, not smoke or drink then there only hope is they are not carrying any cancer genes.

I truly do hear your concerns and I wish you well xxx
