I went to the dentist today and they did a ct scan. An old root canal tooth has an infection. I was really expecting him to say that he couldn't find anything, as this is usually the case with all the testing I've had done for everything else. So having it extracted on Monday. I'm freaking out, I just can't believe it's one more thing. And then I'll have a few months to decide what to do with the hole. I don't want to put any metal back in my system (bridge, implant). But I don't want a big hole either. I'm so full of anxiety right now about it all.

No ear pain. Did you have X-rays or ct scan? Sometimes X-rays won’t show infection. I’ve been reading about root canals and how they can cause autoimmune stuff. My mom got platelet issues after having a root canal.  I’ve got three old root canal teeth and they say infection/bacteria can stay in the canals. And also root canals can harbor lyme which my dentist told me today. I had lyme in the 90s. Anyway, also having metal in your mouth (old amalgam fillings, crowns, bridges, etc is bad because the metal gets in your system. It’s tealky enough to make one insane. I guess I’ll eventually replace the last amalgam filling I have and get rid of the other two root canal teeth too. Just need to decide how to replace the missing teeth without more metal. That’s the tricky part.

    Hi Jacqueline,

Just found this discussion. I know it’s a few months old now, but I’m experiencing the same thing right now.  Has it got any better ? It really is a strange one isn’t it ? I’ve got myself all worked up over it, thinking OMG what’s wrong now ?   Deb xx

Hello, my journey with dental problems stared when I was 48 yrs old, I am now 65 years old. It started with pain in my teeth and from there led to fractured teeth, tinnitus, tmj, severe jaw pain, myofacial pain, neck pain, trigeminal neurolgia and ultimately migraines three to four times per week. Has been a long, expensive, frustrating, and debilitating experience for me. I saw dental specialist in every pertinent discipline and often times more than one. The dental community did not have the answers for me. Well I am two years into wearing braces and eighty percent better. My dentist and prostodontist were not on board with my taking this course of action and the Orthodontist indicated he was not certain this was the best course of action. Long and short of my story is that my problems started with teeth pain, and from there the symptoms just bombarded each other. My upper and lower teeth beared no resemblance to what they had looked like when I was forty eight but it went unnoticed and unattended to. My bottom teeth in particular shifted inward and I lost the arch. I am convinced that had my dentist suggested I see an Orthodontist and get a retainer or wear a Night Guard at the onset of my complaints I would not have gone through this hell for this many years. I'm not there yet, but I no longer get botox injections for migraines and most other symptoms are light and I only experience them when I wake in the morning. My experience has confirmed that dentists are not prepared to accomodate or even observe the effect perimenopause has on our teeth. And when they do their answer is "it's age". Well on that note they are right. But ......what's the solution??

    hi there,

i have had similar problems too. i found that a teeth guard on my top teeth has helped lots. i sleep with it at night and after about a week my teeth pain stopped. also found using a salt mouth wash three times a week very good too. all the shop bought washes take away all bacteria from your mouth but for your guns to get better you'll need bacteria to heal things. hope that helps.
