Doc Martin a TV pro on ITV has a patient with PMR and GCA . I can only think the production team has a person suffering with it .

I feel as though perhaps the illness is starting to get the recognition we all deserve . Hooray

I could not agree more .

Yes, I agree too. It's in the public domain and people will now be talking about it. I've already received an email from my friend who is a Dr saying did I watch doc Martin because they had a case of pmr/gca!!!

And let's not forget the beautiful Cornish scenery, which as you all know I wake up to every day!!!

      regards, tina

My neighbour told me she watched it. I'll try to watch it on catch-up. Don't usually watch it.

As far as I remember, he diagnosed a waiter two or three series ago, without anything except the waiter could not hold a tray - on the spot diagnosis and we laughed. I hope this time they have expanded it and got a proper diagnosis with all the trimmings.

I remember writing a stiff letter of complaint to the series producer about all the mistakes. Needless to say there was no response.

I notice there seems to be a bit of confusion, was it PMR and GCA, or just one of them?

I also object to over 70. This is just plain wrong, people can have GCA as young as 23 (yes there are recorded cases, and one young man in his 30's died after being turned back 3 times at an A&E being told he was too young, the Pathologist confirmed GCA). It is about time that all Medics got away from the mindset that you need to be over 60 or 70.   PMR and GCA can and does occur in people younger.

Agree entirely, though was surprised at GCA biopsy being done in surgery, but then it is TV I suppose!  As long as it`s been brought to attention that`s the main thing...it`s said the programme gets approx 9 million viewers......

I've just been trying to find out when this "period drama" is set - anyone got any ideas? Car registrations maybe? I've never watched it I hasten to add which is why I ask!

But - the original story is that a brilliant vascular surgeon from London developed haemophobia and ended up taking over the GP practice in Portwenn. That accounts for him being able to do the TAB - except for the fear of blood so I hope he didn't come over all sicky during the procedure...

Hello Eileen, Doc Martin is filmed in a place called Port Isaac in Cornwall.

      Andrea xx

Hi Eileen, doc Martin has been running for 4/5 years now and is set in present time, So sometimes has some topical one liners. It's filmed in port Isaac and the immediate surrounding area.

Cornwall this year has had film work done in port Isaac and charlestown (poldark), I'm just waiting for them to dream up a series that would involve Camborne, then I'd be out there putting my name down as an extra! Regards, tina

Thanks - yes I knew when/where in terms of filming. It was the period I was wondering about as it always seems decidedly not entirely 3rd millenium when I see trailers! But it IS present time - that's interesting.

      Eileen,

I think you'll find that life in Cornwall is very similar to Dorset - I.e. Modern in some aspects, but very laid back and has a mañana attitude to many things.

It becomes very addictive at times, and annoying at others! But it's easiest to just go with the flow the majority of the time!

Like you I only watched it a couple of times and thought  Oh No..........

Mind I like Martin Clunes when he did the programmes on horses and dogs.

Could anyone tell me which Doc Martin Series and which episode? We get Doc Martin here in the US (on WETA UK) and there have been at least 6 series with multiple episodes.

When watching it on TV, the listing provides the Series number and episode number. Don't know if this is done in UK, also.

    Thanks,

    Paula

    Available on Netflix, also.

Paula I hope you find out!  Our PBS station may not be carrying it anymore, my friend thinks the story is about over...

Dont these TV people understand we NEED to to see every episode!!! 😝

it is such good writing, beautiful scenery, cute characters, funny, yet dramatic, but mostly funny.

I mentioned above - google a website called filmon. But this I think is the latest (and probably last) series...

The line is they are running out of story lines. Well, here's an idea - how about he follows Aunty Ruth through her journey with GCA/PMR. Introducing a useless rheumy...

Oh, you old cynic you! Whoever comes across a useless rheumy in real life!
    • Posted

      Me cynical? Moi???????

Should I have said that Aunty Ruth should have a wonderful, kind, funny, sympathetic one? I do know one who'd be brilliant at playing himself...

Oh you two (Sue and Eileen)  are awful  rolleyes however I have a list as long as your arm for both sorts, guess which one is longer. frown

Ditto, and he wouldn't  have to travel far, only from Dorset to Cornwall
    • Posted

Yes I've often wondered what it would be like for both of us to be in the same room together.  Best not to think about it really. On two seperate forums in different countries is bad enough!

I don't know - next year on our Dorset leg of the UK trip we need to meet up. Where-ish are you?
    • Posted

About five miles east of Dorchester, but can travel, my son has just bought me a new car! Lucky Mummy or what!
    • Posted

Do you need a fly on the wall, to keep the peace or can I join in?
    • Posted

Feel free. But the NE after your name may indicate you are not in Dorset. But I could be wrong ok course!
    • Posted

What? We have to sub ours - I'd wait forever for them to buy me a car...

We drove round Dorchester going from Bridport to Bishops Waltham - sounds ideal for a coffee/lunch stop.

Lodger does all sorts of things to see me - she went to a Chertsey support group meeting! Newcastle to Dorchester is a bit more complex mind...

It's a date! Just let me know when you're about next by this or other forum!

Do you have relations in Bridport? Son has just bought holiday home in West Bexington (5 miles fro Bridport) and I'm chief caretaker whilst they are up north! Hence the new

car so he doesn't have to worry about me breaking down on them thar Dorset country roads look.

Hi Layne , it was only the second episode of the new series which started last week . So will be interesting to see how it all ends up . So no one has missed ( what happened next ) 🐹🙀😸Carol

Whitchurch Canonicorum now, they were in Chideock until the A35 got too much for them!

Tell me about the country roads - the brand new sat nav told us to turn right just north of Axminster and initially I thought it was avoiding the town centre but it turned out it was merely the shortest route. I realised after about 50 yards but we decided that since we were in a car we'd explore the sat nav's capabilites! Very impressive it has to be said and I only met 2 tractors - just at a gateway on the edge of the village.

Only two tractors! Lucky you. I have a habit of travelling just the time the cattle need to cross the road to go in for milking! Mustn't complain. Love it really. Take care, sue
