Had psoas release surgery with Dr. Ross. Had lots of scar tissue cleaned out. Can't lift my leg and getting in and of bed is next to impossible. Also getting in and out of car ridiculous. Extremely sore using muscles haven't used in years trying to pull myself up. Ugh....

Hi Randy, this is Chrissy, Dr. Ross did my surgery too....it was my right hip so driving took me a while...what i did was put the curved part of cane (the hook part) under my foot and lift my leg up that way....getting in and out of a high bed was tough so i did the same thing...I had a lot of pain after surgery (everyone is different) but it quickly halves itself everyday...

I am not 100% yet but 5 weeks later its day and night! Dr Ross is a genius...I had alot of setbacks so i was slow to heal but I am feeling like a new person!!  Think of all the people on this forum who can't find a good dr in their area so I feel we are very lucky

Hi Randy.  Does dr Ross do revisions of hips as well as arthroscopic tenotomies?  I’m concerned about what caused the injury to the psoas tendon.  If I did it with over exercising then maybe all I need is an arthroscopic procedure but if the cup rubbing caused the injury to the psoas tendon, then that is a revision.  Do you know I’d Dr. Ross’ opinion is to do surgery sooner rather than later?  I’m afraid that the longer I wait, the tighter the tendon will become and the weaker I’ll become.  thank you.  Susa

Hi Susan. You replied to my post but you mentioned Randy...this gets a little confusing...there are several of us here who have had surgery by Dr James Ross..Best thing to do is call and see if he takes your insurance then make an appt.. he is not an overly talkative person so make sure you have all your questions handy ahead of time. Hope this helps. Chrissy

I am almost 2 weeks post-op for release of psoas tendon, and alot of scar tissue clean up. I am feeling very positive. For the first time in 3 years since my total right hip replacement, I can walk a normal stride with very little pain. I went to PT 4 days after surgery and was walking with out a crutches within 4 days. Sore but mostly where the incisions are. And muscle sore cause it has been three year of constant pain and not using them.  My Dr. feels my strength is good post-op, and is very optimistic this was the right decision and thinks I will great results.  It has been a long road for a lot of us. I have a nine month old at home and i am looking forward to just being able to get up and off the ground to play with her.

Randy, I saw Dr. Ross yesterday for my  6 week checkup....I was doing better then had setback. today back in pain...its one step forward and 2 steps back....Dr. Ross did say it will take about 9 months to be able to lift leg properly to get in car...For me I have to drag it in (its my right leg) and i have to slink out of car which is super embarrassing...I told Dr. Ross I was doing much better and slam bam, backwards I go...Anything will set you back...And i do major stretches at home. Nothing seems to permanently stretch this tendon...Let me know if you come up with anything....yesterday was good, today sucks!!! I really regret ever having this hip replacement which started this.

      Take care...Chrissy

Just got my stitches out and doing much better. Still tight but 100x better than 2 weeks ago. Doing PTnat Select Therapy in Lighthouse Point with Jason Merslich, Dr Ross and my friend highly recommended him...really good. Going 2x a week. The psoas is still sore but is nowhere as bad as I thought this would be... Time will tell and I agree the THR was a disaster

Thanks for the update. I have to go to Coral Rehab cuz of insurance. I am just starting PT next week at 6 weeks out, so you are doing good. Question; do you still have inner thigh/butt pain? it seems every time i stretch tendon i get that horrible pain, like going up stair the regular way. This is a long journey and i can't wait until its over.

Hey hope all is well! Saw Dr Ross Monday and he said all is good 6 weeks out. Pain in groin is gone. Still weak in glutes and core from years of neglect from the hip pain. Doing PT 2-3 times  a week. Get very sore for days and then settles down. It seems getting in and out of car aggravates the psoas or muscles in hip. I'm on high doses of Baclofen for my back issues and spastic gait. We think that might be making the muscles weak in hip. I think the surgery was a success and a piece of cake after the first week. It will take a year to build muscles back so need to stick with PT and not give up.

Great to hear RAndy, my issues seem to have settled down this week....like you i do notice after exercise I am extremely sore for several days and then it tapers back down..Dr. Ross did say that for some people its like a rollercoaster ride...for me and others it has been...I have found out i also have ischiel tuberosity from hip replacement so hopefully a cortisone shot in the back area will fix it...What type of PT exercises are you doing?  Take care....glad to hear from you....Chrissy
