the magic 6 weeks today and.....

Posted , 12 users are following.

so today is exactly 6 weeks post op and I am driving, I am going back to work in 1 1/2 weeks after the Easter hols, i have no pain, i am not so tired any more , i can sleep on both sides, I can do supermarket shopping and get the bags into the house and when hubby had manflu made clever use of the crutch to lift up carrier bags too heavy for the grabber and carry it jousting style into the kitchen, I can be very resourceful as new issues of movemrnt arise, i am able to be in the house with my husband for 6 weeks non stop without committing murder, i have taken steps to start a small craft business as a retirement plan, i have disovered who my true friends are, and i can walk a short distance without a crutch - only real problem is that I still have a limp and slight muscle pain when i do, but consultant not bothered by that - oh and I am buying lots of new shoes for medical reasons so that i am not walking on heels that are worn down at 45 degrees!!!

still have a slight limp when  I walk outside . Doing my exercises ad told so hope it will go in time .

     I haven't murdered him yet !

i think I am very lucky in an odd sort of way as I had to take ill health retiring for back problems a few years ago .

I am a DT teacher in a big, challenging school in NW london! the supply teacher who was me was apparently rubbish, i was getting messages from students begging me to come back!!! a bit concerned about how full on it is - I am 63- but i plan to actually leave on time (not stay still 6 every day) and crash out  at home, fortunatly it is only a 10 min drive away. Before the op i had asked if i could reduce my days next year and am awaiting the Principals decision (I am very expensive even as a part timer!!!!) but this experience has made me re evaluate and if he says no I am going to retire- the mess things seem to be when i am not there for half a term makes me wonder if he will overcome his dislike of part timers or still think of  the money he will save if I go!

      happy easter

Awesome new for you and awesome that your husband is still breathing!!  I'm so glad you said that you discovered who your true friends are...i feel the same way.  I do have a question for you.  As far as walking, just for exercise, not in store or anything, do you find yourself walking a little slow?  I find that walking around the store i am in a slower pace anyway, but when I want to walk down to my general store, I have to stop once or twice because I feel my legs a bit tired ....  ???  Ginny USA NJ

I am definitely walking slower outside than in, but I am a bit of a wuss and our pavement (sidewalk) is very uneven.

I think it is lack of stamina , in a few days I shall contact my

gym, which is integrated for able and disabled people and ask them for a suitable program to build up my stamina and leg

strength . Hopefully it will help with the side effects of lots of

      eating and not much moving!

Well done for not killing anyone during the 6 weeks. Its wonderful when those magic 6 weeks arrive, you don't realise what a difference it makes until it arrives!  Its good when you have got a real reason to buy new shoes too instead of having to give lengthy explanations about why you want them to hubby!  Onwards and upwards!

    Hi Valerie

    Well done and congratulations.

Its amazing how quickly our bodies readjust to having a foreign object out in them isn't it !

Week by week I can see more and more improvement in what I can do.

I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and since starting back to work last week, I know my stamina has improved this week.

Nice to have the Easter hold for a longer rest.

I too find I can nip about inside and when I first go outside but then slow down and start to limp, not intentionally but I'm confident that with a few more weeks and in time this will also improve.

it is amazing when you  think about it I agree - i am def going to keep the crutch with me when i go back to work even when my limp has (hopefylly) gone - what a fantastic behaviour management tool for teaching!!!

Lol yes good for behaviour management and for people getting out of your way when they see your crutch.

I went out for first time today without any crutches, just 1 of my walking poles, it was great, again i was a but worried at first but all was OK and I feel I've got over another mile stone.

      I'm 10 weeks tomorrow.

My sons wedding Monday I have 2 pairs of shoes, kitten heels for the nuptials and photos and fancy glittery flats for rest.

I thought I might have trouble with heels but feel fine.

      Hi Mary

Yes I got the hat, well fascinator, not too big so it goes in everyone's face lol, but I love it.

I have a dark purple lace dress with satin champagne shoes or glittery champagne flats, bag and fascinator which has champagne and black feathers coming out of it.

I love it all, I have started packing as its in a windmill and we are all staying the night and have wedding breakfast with them before we all go our separate ways.

I was in debenhams for 4 hours, i could park outside with my disabled badge and all the staff were brilliant, in bringing me loads and loads of shoes to try on.

I am going tomorrow to see if I can get some cream pearl earrings to go with my mothers cream pearl necklace to wear if not I'll have to wear my freshwater pearls but they are whiter.

I have nearly everything on my list done. Lol !

      Christine,

Have a lovely lovely time at your sons wedding and best wishes to the happy couple for good health, wealth and happiness. If ever there was a reason to get dressed up its at a wedding. I myself was married less than a year ago for the 2nd time and despite my health issues I was able to dance the night away with the help of a few glasses of champers.  Fingers crossed for lovely weather for you all biggrin
