the magic 6 weeks today and.....

so today is exactly 6 weeks post op and I am driving, I am going back to work in 1 1/2 weeks after the Easter hols, i have no pain, i am not so tired any more , i can sleep on both sides, I can do supermarket shopping and get the bags into the house and when hubby had manflu made clever use of the crutch to lift up carrier bags too heavy for the grabber and carry it jousting style into the kitchen, I can be very resourceful as new issues of movemrnt arise, i am able to be in the house with my husband for 6 weeks non stop without committing murder, i have taken steps to start a small craft business as a retirement plan, i have disovered who my true friends are, and i can walk a short distance without a crutch - only real problem is that I still have a limp and slight muscle pain when i do, but consultant not bothered by that - oh and I am buying lots of new shoes for medical reasons so that i am not walking on heels that are worn down at 45 degrees!!!

    Hi Valerie,

Well done on your reaching the 6 week mark and doing so well. It's the magic 6 weeks for me next Wednesday but not seeing my consultant until Friday. I am soooo looking forward to driving but suspect I won't be allowed to drive my own car (2 seater sports car) for quite some time so I will have to use the hubby's. I can live with that I guess.

I have often felt like a knight on my trusty steed myself with my crutches out in front of me with something dangling on the end of it. I could be a danger to man or beast lol. I'm going to be going back to work myself in around 4 weeks and will be keeping a crutch handy whether I need it or not. You never know when they might come in handy.

Fingers crossed for your continued recovery biggrin

Thank you Ali - jousting rocks! You might be able to get into your car but I doubt you will get out of it !

      Onwards and upwards 😃

I hope I am like you soon.  I am now three days off five weeks, walking without crutch indoors but not quite confident outside.  I can sleep on both sides and tend to forget my crutch.  Still have a bit of a limp and have not got the courage to bend down yet.  You certainly do find out who your real friends are.  My husband has been terrific and I don't know what I would have done without him.  Looking forward to the nice weather now buying a new patio set to celebrate my six weeks!   Does anyone have any numb spots??  I have a bit of numbness in my operated leg. I suppose this will go. Happy Easter to all you hippies out there!

Hi Markene I am 10 weeks post op now and doing well . Walking without crutches and limp gas almost gone but this morning I decided to do a couple of jobs outside . Wish I hadn't  ! Found three mice in my seat bench , they have made a terrible mess , I ended up in tears , so frustrated because I can't do what I used do . I live alone and am very independent .over it now . They are only mice!

Never mind Mary.  As you say they are only mice.  I must admit the frustration of not being able to do things drives you mad.  I am twenty in my brain and seventy five on Tusaday so I am determined to keep on going as long as I can.  Just want to be able to walk my dog again, but I will.  Keep smiling.

try adding dryer sheets.... I closed up my house for 8 months (through the winter) ... I put dryer sheets all over the house, not a single sign of a mouse when I came back smile

mice just about shoot me through the roof so I will do anything to keep them away smile

LOL  not sure is you are asking what dryer sheets are or if you think I am nuts smile --- I am going with the first..... are you in UK or US?  here in US some people put what they call "dryer sheets"  to make clothes soft.... like Downey.....

    Hi Valerie

Well done super woman at 6 weeks!

I think new shoes is an excellent idea...tho try to avoid 6 inch heels!

I'm sometimes aware of a slight limp too...at which point I deliberately limp on the good side...which then seems to correct things.

At 4.5 weeks I'm adept with sox now but this morning got lovely wife to put on me sox in case she missed doing it!

oh so glad to see someone else say that!  One of my co-workers commented last week ...."finally no heels"  ahhhh that is just temporary --- I do not wear the spiked 5-inch heels, but looking forward to a supported wedge.... did just order a pair of heeled boots from Hopper, cheesygrin
