The Urolift procedure; patient views and questions

Would it be possible to keep this thread purely about Urolift and a means of sharing experiences from those who have undergone the process and invite debate from those considering it.
The Urolift process plus pros and cons are accurately described at many a website. Other very long threads discuss in detail BPH and other treatments such as TURPS, laser tend to overshadow people looking for advice on Urolift.
So for me, tired of getting up in the night. Tired of the medication and its side effects, tiredness and ED. Quality of life getting me down. I am 60 and reckon to be pretty fit and active.
I underwent this treatment (as an alternative to TURPS) 2 weeks ago at one of the 5 or 6 clinics/hospitals that appear to offer this treatment in the UK. It really was as simple as described on the web.
I had a 30 minute consultation with the consultant whereby he explained the procedure.
The treatment was booked for 10 am., it took about 15 minutes. I had it done under a local anaesthetic. To be frank if you are used to having your prostate and other bits probed there is no pain. It is just the thought of it you have to come to terms with. After the treatment you have to drink a lot of water to flush your system but I was allowed to drive home by dinner time.
First warning here. I did have to stop probably every 15 minutes with a sudden need to urinate. Fortunately I took a urine bottle from the clinic !
I could write for ages but will see what response I get to this post. I know on the day I was there, 4 other blokes were having the procedure and I sensed there was a regular flow of patients.
I’m now going through the period whereby I’m asking myself is there any improvement? It’s only 2 weeks in. I’m not sure is the answer at the moment. We are all different and recovery and improvement I am told does take time anything from 2/3 weeks to 2/3 months maybe longer. Your system needs time to readjust, I understand that, I don’t know how much time but I’m due for a follow up next week. I'm remaining positive.Would welcome comments from others.

I informed my Father in Law, who had suffered from Prostrate cancer and was going to the toilet 5 or 6 times a night as well, he now self doses with 2 times a day, Saw Palmetto 2500mg and Puritans Pride Pumpkin seed oil 1000 mg and has reduced his nocturnal trips to once or twice a night as well.
I found that immediately following the lift procedure I am suffering from the need to immediately urinate and have been informed that it may take up to 2 week to 2 months for the prostrate to start to behave normally. Not being happy with the time scale I will continue to self dose of Saw Palmetto and Puritans Pride Pumpkin seed oi for the next two weeks . I am aware the Saw and Pumpkin do not reduce the prostrate but only alleviate the symptoms. I am not sure which of the two are actually helping but at £12 a month supply for both items it is worth every penny.
I will give an update at the 4 week point and 2 month point

Thanks for the correction james87669 , but i must also do this. The word is The not Th.
Over 4 weeks since my operation and all is well. Burning stopped after 3 days and streaming urine like a 20 year old. Down to once a night now. Slight draw back in that when i have to go, i have to go.

Lorcet 7.5/500 mg, with Xylocaine local. Went well, about 10 min, staples were used rather than sutures. A bit uncomfortable when staples were place
albeit very brief. A little tender in the area, still a little difficult to urinate tonight, but just remembered to take the Flowmax ( for 7-10 more days only
- ( I hope). Blood is present & will be for 1-2 weeks. Was told to avoid any excessive physical stress for 10-14 days. I am hopeful and optimistic of significant improvement in the next 2-3 weeks. The anticipation was more stressful than actual procedure. Any comments from those from 1 day post op to several weeks. Thanjs

but don't expect to deal with that very long. I will get back to you after I ask a few follow up questions. I can only assume @ the moment that the staples are an improvement! They had better be!!😷

My name is Stephen from Sydney Australia. I am 58. Thanks for all your posts. Very informative.
I have had problems with starting to urinate for years. Takes up to 1 minute to start. Now I have low pressure and not emptying. Normally have to go to toilet once per night. So my symptoms aren't too severe but nevertheless annoying.
I went to see a urologist last week and have since had a cystoscopy. This revealed my prostate is blocking my urethra. It also showed that my prostate is small and quite saggy/loose which is why the doctor has recommended I have a Urolift. So I have opted to have the Urolift done this Thursday. The doctor has done many of these and assures me I will be peeing like a 20 year old again. I'm not so sure but very hopeful. I will report back when I have news. I am not looking forward to the first week. Sounds like I'm in for a bit of pain.

I had my procedure done 3 weeks ago today! No catheter placed, but sent me home with a few of them!
Needed self cath one time that evening, but not sense! My symptoms seem much better, except the last few nights have had to get up 4-5 times again! Off flowmax & rapaflow! MD says 2-4 weeks to really start to see much improvement!
So overall better but am looking for continued improvement! Also had 4 plants placed!

I was programmed for day surgery only but ended up staying overnight to manage the pain. Im home now but still uncomfortable 40 hour after procedure. I don't have a catheter which is fine I just use a bottle so I don't have to get up.
Pressure seems a lot better and no hesitation to start now. So all looking positive but still early days. There is a lot of things that need to settle down.
One thing that is hindering my recovery is I am constipated from the procedure and pain medication. Once I have a bowel movement I will be better I think. I will keep updating.
Cheers Solly.
