There is Hope - End Stage

Posted , 66 users are following.

Since joining the site I have read some really sad posts, mostly from people believing they are knocking on deaths doorstep from end stage liver disease relating to alcoholism. You need to know that the body is a VERY resiliant multicellular organism. It's entire Job is to keep you living as long as possible to ensure the survival of the human race. With that said, if you astain from alcohol and follow the proper dietary requirements, the progression of Cirrhosis can be slowed to a snails pace and even halted in some cases. It is never to late, but you must STOP drinking as the body can't begin its healing process and deal with your abuse at the same time. I wish everyone well, and I pray daily for anyone and everyone who is effected by this horrible disease.

Love you all.

    Hi

I joined a liver disease site for advice but because all my scans were negative and it was only my liver function tests that are chronically elevated, have been for 7 months and possibly longer. I was told i don't have liver disease by a few of their members. Im hopefully having a biopsy arranged when i next see GI on 23rd june. Its been a long wait and a lot of pain and fatigue

I completely agree, I was diagnosed with cirrhosis over 2 years ago, and my doctors at the time gave me 6 months maximum to live.

I stopped drinking there and then, and I have not had any alchohol since.

You must stay positive, and even though the changes to your diet, i.e. little or no sodium (salt) make your food less tasty, to start with. your body does get used to it quickly.

    Positivity is key.

My doctors had given up hope, especially because I had lost about 3 liters of blood, and they could not get any for a transfusion, I am O negative, so it is hard to find some spare blood.

My doctor advised me to eat 3 boiled egg whites every day to recover some Albumin, and that was their final advice to me.

Needless to say I switched doctors, got some blood brought in and went home a week later.

I have been recovering ever since.

And if I can stop drinking and eat a better diet, then anyone can. So my advice is keep fighting and stay as positive. Your liver is an amazing thing.

    Hai

I was diagnosed with liver chirrhosis at the age of 31.

After that also I used to consume alcohol. In 2015 my condition was critically bad and hospitalised. And the reports shows the stage development to child b. At the time my lost my ability to walk without any help.

After that I quit smoking and alcohol. And after medication I feel better with my health and resumed to my job.

Recent blood tests also show bilirubin, SGT, SGOT, GAMMA , ALBUMIN as normal only.

But sometimes while reading the health magazines , it's showing the maximum life span as 9-10 yeas

I I'm getting very depressed now with this. I am afraid of thinking about my family's .

While started texting this also i was having a lot of question to ask but i cant.....really afraid about a death at this stage because of my own mistakes

I have Child-Pugh A and it is my experience and I have plenty of exdperience with doctors and consultants, they would give you a time limit, even if it is an estimated one.

Nice name! Haha. Feel for all of you guys. I have health problems associated with being a dummy but all we can do is pray and realize this life is only temporary.

Anyways, you guys know your body best, not your doctor. Doctors are great at saving your life when you get in a nasty car wreck, but other aspects of health they arent always so great at listening and/or finding the problem.

I am 27 (almost 28) not overweight. drank daily for several years. Collectively if i added up all the days i drank id say everyday for 4 years straight. Was on ambien over a year after developing sleep problems (since off the ambien). Im younger and doctors absolutely will not take me seriously. Symptoms: get sick easily (common cold), feel cold all the time, joint aches (could be related to sleep but been getting at least 4-5 hours nightly), white coating on tongue, sluggish, weak, irritable even from simple things, no energy, headache developing past couple weeks that occurs daily. I have fluid in my abdomen on right side (not a ton but id say a good 16oz), feel bloated. I had an inguinal hernia, with small mesh incision and its possible the fluid is related to that however highly doubtful because the surgery almost 2 years ago and maybe there has been fluid in there a long time (just unnoticable amounts) that caused the small hernia in the first place. I have had 2 ct scans, couple rounds of bloodwork, 2 ultrasounds checked kidneys, liver, galbladder, bladder, etc all normal. I feel terrible and hard for me to get through the day sometimes. I showed my doctor a video on my iphone where you can physically hear the liquid in my abdomen. ct scan revealed its not ascites. I truly think it is ascites and think its just its not a lot so the scan is not picking it up. Doctor went on a long spiel about this and that so i asked him "so is that liquid in my abdomen normal" he said "no definitely not". I really dont think its seroma and neither did my doctor since its so long ago and it was only a tiny incision. I think its ascites. ct scan not picking it up. seem to feel more "swollen" some days than others especially if i eat salty foods etc. my urine dark in the morning but yellow throughout the day, sometimes clear after coffee drinking, etc. does seem like dont urinate as much as i use to, somewhat feels instead of going through my urinary tract system it goes into my abdomen. not sure if this is whats happening but i feel bloated drinking water, if i drink more feel even more bloated. if i dont eat seems like i pee more and is clearer. I dont have spider veins, no jaundice but my overall health is terrible. have only drank few times past several months including once a couple weeks ago 6 pack coors light but have given it up 100%. get the common cold after drinking every time. However i do think its possible the fluid is connected with my small hernia surgery, much more likely its connected to liver since i do have other symptoms. Its possible the ambien dammaged my liver, i was taking 12-15mg per night for around a year and drinking several nights a week on top of that. my mom drank for 20 years after my sister died (sober 7 years) and is healthy as an ox praise the Lord. My diet never been good since i have cleaned it up a lot. Hard to get energy to excercise but been jogging a mile daily.

maybe you guys can shed some light. Im seeing a specialist in a couple weeks, saw a GI but she was a knowit all so im switching doctors. Doctors not taking me seriously becaise i look "fine" on the outside but feel sick as a dog on the inside.

Anyways guys do not lose hope ever. Many Doctors mean well but sometimes there is arrogance mixed with unwillingness to listen to the patient. Even IF anyone here has a liver problem/failure its not that huge of a deal to get a donor, its just keep yourself healthy as possible until you get a donor which includes cutting all alcohol, eating healthy (papaya, papaya seeds, ginger, lemon, mint, raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar to alkaline the body, fish (not farm raised) pretty much all fruits and veggies, cutting back salt, etc) I like to make ginger/lemon/mint teas. Seems to make me feel better and ginger helps with sickness.

Anyone here do not listen to any death sentense a doctor gives you. If they have a crystal ball on your death why dont they strike at rich on the stock market and make us all wealthy by their stock picks?

Not here to preach but i will share what helps me day to day not live in fear, one thing that helped me cut back and now quit drinking is praying to my Lord. I dont pray for tomorrow because tomorrow may never come. Healthiest person in the world does not know the day nor the hour he will die. Pray to the Lord he can get you through the day alcohol free. Cut all ties with drinking buddies, bowling, etc whatever you use to do drinking eliminate it until the urge leaves you, it will get easier.

Again not here to preach, but what else you got to lose by searching about liver problems on a random forum. What else is there to lose? There is one doctor above all that knew your ailments before the earth began. Trust in Jesus Christ and may you never be the same.

Hope all here pulled through and living healthier and appreciating life more than they ever have. Have a blessed new year all.

Forgot to add my ct scan revealed a "borderline" enlarged spleen. Blood sugar levels were right at cut off but still in normal range.

Also do have "tension" on my right side.

Also for others here i have heard just because galbladder tests/scans are normal doesnt mean you dont have galbladder problems. Could be galbladder. Keep hounding your doctor, they work for you! Even if you have to show up in a wherlchair for them to take you seriously its worth a shot.

I have every single symptom you've mentioned. I chalk it up to irreparable damage caused by alcohol and drug use. My Labs actually come back completely normal now, and I have no increase or decrease in body weight for the last year, my numbers are that of someone who would measure up to a normal person without liver disease, but I have been told I do have liver disease and scarring. I just keep doing what I've done every day, and eating right and not drinking alcohol at the top of the list.  Funny that you mention the sore joints, as I have that as well, but have been told its most likely from my family line (father bad shoulders, brother bad shoulders) and absolutely nothing liver related. You will sometimes have an extremely sore right shoulder/joint from liver related issues but not all over your body, that wouldn't be a symptom they would correlate with ALD. So maybe you have some underlying bone issues to get checked out. Urine is always darker in the morning, for most people, unless your talking borderline tea colored, every morning that doesnt subside with water intake. Anyways, you probably do have some damage, and remember damage done to the body doesn't happen overnight, it takes many years, as it does take many years to heal itself. Anyways.... ciao!

after seeing more than a dozen doctors ever a 3-year time span, with most of my labs being normal. I was a little anemic low iron, but I was barely functional I can hardly sit up I couldn't lift my arms and when I had to lift my right arm over my head it was excruciating. all about my 10th or 11th visit to the ER, A doctor finally checked my liver. my meld was 17. My point with sharing this information is that your Labs do not always tell the full story. I was immediately put on a transplant list. However, the good news is I am no longer on the transplant list. We were able to improve my numbers down at the transplant center where I receive treatment for Hepatitis C that I had for 55 years undiagnosed. In June we will know how much if any Improvement my liver has sustained. So far I still have no energy, and I must take massive doses of fluid medication, and I take cannabidiol... I still have no energy, I can't sleep regularly, I stay awake 48 hours and then sleep 15 hours if anybody knows of anything that can help regulate my sleep and give me energy please shout out.

FYI my grandpa is 83 and kept telling his doctor he had cancer and he kept assuring him "no you dont have cancer" needless to say he was diagnosed with bone cancer a year later.

You know your body best, tell your doctor how it is dont simply ask and get 10 opinions if you have to even if it includes RAISING YOUR VOICE AND BEGGING FOR HELP, or they wont take you seriously. Dont give up!

    Hello there,

I have a question and was hoping someone here could help?

My aunt was recently diagnosed with stage 4 liver disease. I was wondering if someone in our family were to donate a part of our liver to her would that help? Or would she need a full liver transplant to survive?

Any info on this subject would be most helpful.

    Thanks!

I am no expert, but my understanding is that a partial liver is all that is needed. I go to ochsner transplant center in New Orleans, they do libe donor transplants.

Can you advice some coffee to drink? I don't drink coffee and it makes me really hyper.  Can I drink decaf or does it have to be caffeinated?

I stopped drinking a week ago and am going to my first doctors appointment about the jaundice I realized I have tomorrow.  I'm so nervous. I'm 32 and just got married. I hope that however bad the damage is I can sustain a sober and fulfilling lifestyle!
