This burning sensation is driving crazy

The above is really driving crazy.  I am sure there must be something wrong, this constant burning as if I have got urine infection.  All tests came neg.  Anybody from this forum have this problem, the burning sensation and abdominal discomfort are the main symptoms.  Going to see gp and ask about checking bladder.  I keep wondering whether it is AV or urine infection and am concerned if I am not aware I have got a urine infection, it can damage my kidney.  I do drink  lot of water and pass urine with no pain and can hold my urine.  I know there is something not right but nobody seems to know what it is.  If it is AV, does that mean I will have to put with this discomfort for the rest of my life.  It is there all the time, no respite at all.  Thanks

Yes Marie I realize the Triamcinolone ointment is a steroidal ointment, it can also be used for eczema and can cause thinning of the skin. For me, it has/does work and I have not experienced thinning of my skin in any areas. I am so very thankful the Triamcinolone ointment relieved me of AV as a couple other things did not work and as bad as I was suffering. Marie I really hope that you find/get something to find relief also. smile

    Hi there marie,

i am also a felllow sufferer and the burning has driven me crazy on and off for a few years. I have had pelvic scans, seen by urologist and had antibiotics and hormone cream and replens but it still persists. Like you i sometimes feel i have a urine infection despite tests being negative. Ive had loads of thrust treatment. The urologist did tell me not to bath but to shower and dont use soaps in intimate area. Bathing really dries you out and some water can enter in the urethra causing problems. Id see the gp and discuss with them just to rule out any infections etc. Urologist also recommended to drink cranberry juice and broccoli juice for good urinary tract heath. Good luck and hope you get some relief as i know what its like.

There is also a condition called Lichen sclerosis which can seem to mimic some of the symtoms of AV. A steriod cream/ointment is usually prescribed for this but you do need a biopsy to know if you have this. My doctor thought I had this and did not send me for a biopsy but gave me the steroid ointment. This made me feel like I was on fire, I couldn't even sleep at night and it was several months before I paid to see a private consultant who told me I didn't have Lichen sclerosis. I came off of the ointment and after a lot of trial and error found that regular use of vaginal hrt was the only thing that worked for me. That seems to be the thing with AV, one size doesn't fit all and we all find different things help.

Hi Marie, I've been through this twice in my life, first time for 4 years, second time for 18 months....both times I had a prolapse. First time I had a hysterectomy ,and the stinging disappeared for 13 years ,18 months ago it started again, when my bladder ,vagina, and bowel are going south.the sting got better when I started to try and push my bowel back into the correct position after I had a poo, stinging has gone but I feel like I have something come down into my vagina ,I've seen a specialist and the top of my vagina has collapsed in on itself and the walls of my vagina too. I am having an op  soon to repair all of this,I have been fobbed of for years and was given aqueous cream, needless to say it was useless,Do not get constipated at all ! taking colon cleanse at night and 1 movical in the day but the relief is not instant ,my prolapsed vag is pulling my bowel down.Hope something will help Marie  ,it's unrelenting  stinging and burning I know what it's like,am seeing Mr Khullar at st.Marys ,Paddington.Good Luck let me know if anything works ! Hi Marie

Like you I had burning and feeling of needing to go to the loo.  I had no pain on passing urine and could also hold my urine.  My Gynae docotr prescribed Vagifem pessaries but I felt everytime I use them they irritated me even more.  Went to my GP who told me to stop the Vagifem and use Ovestin Cream instead (inserted into my vagina with an applicator which comes in the box) twice weekly.  She also gave me Cetraben Emollient Cream (Pump Dispenser)  which she told me to use externally  evrytime I went to the loo.  The burning has gone away comepletely and I am feeling great.  Hope this may be of some help to you.

Glad to see the Ovestin cream is helping you.  I have got the cream but still has not used it due to side-effects I experienced last year.  Do you use it only twice a week, I might give it a try, GP also prescribed me cetraben?  I can put up with my discomfort if it is really AV not something serious.

      Hi Marie,

I used the Ovestin every day for 2 weeks and now I use it just twice a week.  I use the Cetraben every time I use the loo.  Both creams have helped greatly.  Hope you get sorted.

Forgot to mention that my urine tests also came back negative.  My GP also told me not to wash my vaginal area as this would dry things out and leave the skin and tissue dry and irritated.

thanks for all info it is helpful.  I have tried replens vaginal moisturiser but it all ends up coming out in clumps of what looks like wet tissue so I have left that off and have also tried Ovestin cream which gives me a real throbbing head and because I had a stroke 2 years ago I have decided to stop. So still looking for a suitable treatment and I am really fed up with going to the hospital and GP and being pulled about. Dr gave me hydrocortisone cream so am just using that but things still dont feel right. Think I.ll be going back soon....

Hi.  I'm from the usa. Hope you don't mind me chatting with you ladies.  Marie, it sounds similar to interstitial cystitis.   I've had it since I was in my twenties and it feels just like a urinary infection, but there's no infection.  Try one level teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water.  If it's your bladder, it will sooth the pain.  Also, chew tums anti acid.  It will alkalize your urine.  If those 2 things ease your pain at all, then you can go back to the doctor and tell them.  There is no cure but it can get better.  I've got AV now after a hysterectomy 2 years ago.  It aggravates the bladder condition sometimes.  I hope you get relief.

I too have IC and this sounds exactly like what I went through for a very long time before I got diagnosed. I would just know that I had a bladder infection and I would go to my Dr and nada... nothing. At first I thought I was going to lose my mind. I felt like the Drs just thought that I wanted pain pills and was making up symptoms. It was horrible. Finally I got my urologist to listen to me and to what I had been trying to tell everyone all along. He did a procedure where I was put to sleep and he looked into my bladder. He said what I had was interstitial cystitis. He stretched my bladder and put a med in there called DMSO. Since then I have had a device installed called an Interstim which is basically a pacemaker for the bladder is how my Dr described it and I have the procedure where I am put to sleep and have my bladder stretched with DMSO every six months or so and that is how it makes the pain bearable for me live a normal life.

What you Marie are dealing with sounds a lot like IC to me. I hope this helps you. It's just a matter of finding the right person to listen to you.
