THR

Hi all. I'm having a THR on Monday!πŸ˜πŸ˜“Bit anxious . It's the Unknown! I had a full knee replacement two years ago and hear this "should" be a doddle by comparison! I've also had a lot of back & neck surgery in the past.& obviously have arthritis.Have hardly been able to walk the last five months due to the hip.πŸ˜¦πŸ˜’

My concerns are when I come home.

My biggest issue is I don't have any chair/ armchair that is suitable in height etc. My sofas are low, soft and squishy & my dining chairs are also not suitable. This is a big concern. Also I'm just worrying about day to day getting around, running my home, getting in & out of the car etc.πŸ°πŸ‘·

    Hi Gaby

I've had 2 knee replacements on the same leg and now a hip replacement. Same pesky right leg. I know they said it was a doddle but I was surprised at how difficult it actually was. I was in more pain post op than the knee because they didn't give as much pain relief. The recovery is quicker, I suppose. But not much and it's still slower than I expected. I'm also finding my knee is the joint that's holding me back. Being a revision it's not early all that great. So you may find it easier than me.

I'm very interested in how you go, so keep us updated.

One week in & I don't seem to be too good!!!!😩😩😩😩

Came home Thursday night. Did way way too much on Friday & felt dreadful !!

Whilst in hospital and more so now I keep on virtually passing clean out! My blood then was ok! Today I went downstairs but within minutes I had to rush( as best I could) back upstairs before I was out cold! This happened twice & im now flat out in bed. Can just make it to the loo and back!

I'm now really upset as this is not me. Usually I push push myself as I did after my total knee replacement! I haven't got dressed or anything! Feel a failure as I know everyone flies with their recovery! What can I do?? Can't even do my exercises today

My advice to you Gaby is slooooooow down, it's not a race, not everyone flies with their recovery, I didn't, I'm 6 months in and feel great, but it has taken a lot of effort to get here. I have had days where like you I overdid it, then had to take it easy the next day. Listen to your body, it's a steep learning curve and with hip replacement you cannot push yourself it's a big operation.

As for you nearly passing out maybe you ought to get your blood pressure checked it sounds a little on the low side.

Hope this helps Love Gill xx

I agree with last response. I am 9 wks tomorrow, I am probably the worst patient in the world! !! I will not ask anyone to do anything for me, and refused for a good couple of weeks to take notice of anyone! ! I soon learnt that I have to do as I'm told, because, like you, I didn't have the faint feeling, for every day I decided to do the hoovering and mop the kitchen floor, I spent the next 2 days unable to move!!

I'm still struggling with stiffness, sleeping etc, I just park myself in my "naughty " chair and watch jeremy kyle on I player, makes me feel a whole lot better, laughing at people airing their dirty laundry on TV! !!

      Hugs. Xxx

I had similar panic and it was low blood pressure.

once it was because I bent my head down to do look at something.

The doc thought anaemic, but I was careful to rest more, and

      was ok after that.

      good luck, take care

      Hi Gaby

Only just read your post and replies and you worried me, then I saw your last post. Glad you are home ok and yes you should absolutely make sure you drink plenty. I bought some of those individual bottles of water as they are easy to carry around and you can monitor how much you drink. I sometimes add squash to them. And rest rest rest. If you are still feeling light headed perhaps just do the bed exercises so you dont feel stiff and gradually add more exercises as you feel stronger. Its very early days so take things slowly and if you dont feel like getting dressed one day - does it really matter? The most important thing is you and your recovery.

      Take care

Thank you!! I am always really hard on myself! It's 3 am the longest I sleep 3 hrs! To add insult to injury(op) I've hurt my other knee (knew one) think pulled hamstring from taking all pressure coz of new hip on other leg so now really difficult! Right mess.

Had a surprise lunch party I was dying to go to on Thursday but looks really doubtful😩😩and Physio Wednesday morning but need that! Oh well let's see how today go's??!!
