      Hi,

I had my first at 47. It took ten years before the docs finally got the pain issue diagnosed. So many years of bone on bone pain. After surgery certainly it was a challenge thru recovery. But compared to the alternatives I was back to a better life without a limp & constant pain.

Its normal to be nervous. My doc arranged a meeting with a former patient willing to talk with me about her THR . She even visited me in the hospital.

She was a good mentor knowing that all will work out in the end..

Now I've been thry 3 THR at 66 still going! My Aunt is 92 just had her second. I really believe it's all attitude and a challenge for us all to know once we heal it was well worth the effort. Joining the hippy club as we are all here for you.

Good luck to wellness and healing for the challenges ahead.

There's a lot of great advice here. Following UR docs advice . Usually UR given a phamplets on the dos and dont's after surgery as well as bed exercises. Do them faithfully for a better recovery.

Then once the incision has healed PSIO thearpy can help build UR leg strength & core muscles back. Very important to do the bed exercises to keep the blood flow and oxygen to the op site for healing.

Ur psio will teach u how to get in and out of bed walk stairs how to use a walker and always stay within the restrictions on movements. Also a list of exercises u can do in bed. Sleeping on UR back for 6 weeks is very important for healing correctly.

It's a tough decision to have THR surgery and a challenge. It is better for u after healing takes place. U r so brave to accept this surgery as it is a good option for so many.

Remember this is major surgery and the bones must grow into the prothesis to stabilize the joints, it takes time effort and patience. It takes time & patience.

After UR healing in 6 months and u have passed all the challenges with the rehab u can change UR name to Sunshinenin becuse u will be in less pain and back to doing the things u like to do.

I've been thru 3 THR and each one was different. It's always better once u can get back to a normal life without the pain. The  Hippy club is always here to help.

    Kind Regards

All of the above, but most important, sleep when you can! In the early weeks I think that lack of sleep is the main problem, once you can get onto your side it improves, but a nap after lunch helps with tiredness levels and also any swelling. I found my kindle a great help during the night when I was awake and didn't want to wake OH.

Start to exercise in the hospital bed- toes ankles feet. Then continue ALL exercise reperitions. Walk a bit further each day. Stretch and keep within limitations they give you. Swim when allowed and continue even if not a swimmer. I still do the exercises ten years after my ferst THR. i HAVE TO HAVE A REVISION only BECAUSE MY NETAL LEVELS ARE SKY HIGH. bOTH HIPS ARE FAULTLESS.
