I have been taking Gaviscon but was told by my discharge doctor not to take any Zantac, but I am really suffering. I was wondering if anyone has been through this, and I was hoping for some advice. I feel so down that I have be no through this for nothing, I have obviously been following the post op surgery which is just bland and minimal food, yet I still feel like this.

You poor woman.  I suffered with reflux for many years and took Zantac which only worked while I was on it, but my problem reoccurred when stopping. I found Milk Thistle worked (bought from my local Superdrug), 'Instantly'.  After three months of taking it I only need it very occasionally three tablets, maybe twice a year if that. This is three years down the line. Milk Thistle is also supposed to be good for your liver. Check with your Chemist or Doctor if you are on other medications. Good luck.

      Hi Gillian

I hope you don't mind me contacting you.  When you say Milk Thistle is that tablet form and do you know if you can get it liquid form at all?  I would like to try it but I am having trouble taking tablets at the moment as I have a lump feeling in my throat that has been caused through my acid reflux problems.

      Many thanks,

      Amanda.

Rushed out and bought Milk Thistle and the liquorice stuff, cost £20, worth it even if they help ease the symptoms just a little, keep in touch.

    Hi!

I am two months post op and still having reflux symptoms. I'm wondering if you ever found some answers for your reflux?

Hi, sorry I have only just seen this.

I will be 2 yrs postp in March and i am much improved.

I bought a wedge pillow shortly after the op and it helped me loads at night when reflux symptoms got much worse.

I still have to eat reallt small portions, i eat 6 times a day rather than big meals and try and eat slow to stop the symtoms and also the other symptoms which I have developed since the procedure, such as really bad bloating, 'dumping syndrome' etc.

I am glad i had it but its taken so so long for recovery. I am now 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby and do get bad reflux at night, but im not reliant (touch wood) on any other medications besides Gaviscon.

How are you feeling after your surgery?

I am still having reflux daily, and I am on all of my meds. The reflux actually feels worse than before the surgery. My surgeon says that means the surgery failed and that there just isn't anything else I can do but try to manage my symptoms the best I can. I really regret having the surgery, even though it was recommended by a couple different doctors.

Hi gbaz-90, wish I had something nice to tell you. I had this operation in September 2016 and then had to go back and have more stitches in October, and it's now March and `I still feel awful.  I have worse reflux now than then, I have dreadful vomiting if I eat certain foods (spicy or herbs) and I basically live on Gaviscon and Nexium.  I had one the top specialists in this field, so I don't know why I have not recovered well.  I have read other peoples forums and a lot have said it can take a good 12 months to recuperate fully.  I am trying really hard to keep positive, but at 60 years of age I'm finding it difficult.  I hope you get some good results soon.
