Yes, I have thyroid problems for many years. Mostly it is low and I take a thyroid supplement. The catch is that it works very inconsistently. This is hard on the health. It is inflammed, and a form of an autoimmune disease. I also wondered if it could have been a catalyst to LS.I will be interested to see how many people have a similar issue. Hopefully your doctor has ruled out thyroid cancer.

He said its soft so that was good but I am scheduled for ultrasound. It's hard not to panic. Apparently thyroid cancer is rare. I'm curious to know if any others have the throat clicking symptom?

It could just be inflammed.thyroiditis can cause this. What is throat clicking?

I have underactive Thyroid as well as Lichen Schlerosis AND Lichen Planus. These are all auto immune diseases so perhaps it is not so unusual that you end up with all of them.

I also have not heard of throat clicking.

Good luck with all of your testing! I think thyroid problems are very common and very easily treated.

Thanks for the encouragement. I lost my mom (when I was 21) and brother in law to cancer and I suffer from health anxiety. Particularly cancer.

It is not difficult to have health anxiety. I share your feeling. Auto immune problems can affect any part of your body, and sometimes we feel so vulnerable and fearful. I talk to women so many times who have these problems, as I am in the health field. It is actually becoming more and more the norm. Thyroid illness is usually easily resolved. ..Please let us know what you find out. Prayers to you.

I'm so sorry you lost your mom at such a young age! It would be hard not to be anxious! XO

She was my best friend.. Was a huge loss. I still cry for her sometimes especially when I'm going through something hard.

    Hi Sandra

Yes I have had my thyroid removed almost two years ago.. Thyroid, LS, arthritis,

eczema are all autoimmune diseases. I have them all. One of the contributing factors that create these things is stress, trauma.  The one remarkable thing that happened to me is that after the thyroid was removed I ceased having that wretched itch that I suffered so severely with for over 30 years. I also have Reynaud's disease.

Hi - I had one really large nodule and about four other smaller ones. I had cut salt out of my diet for about 10 years. The specialist put me back on iodised salt and nodules are gone. Hope this helps. Try and not stress although that is probably easier said than done. X

That's very interesting about the iodized salt. We have cut down salt quite a bit in our diets and our daughters, who are very health concious and know it alls (the confidence of youth, LOL!) keep saying to only have sea salt and these other "natural" salts.

I have mentioned that salt is iodized for a reason but even my husband says the "chefs" he listens to on talk shows says to throw away table salt!

I know that Iodine is necessary and can be difficult to get in our diets hence the iodized salt.

AND interestingly enough, I JUST read a post in the LS Support FaceBook Group where a woman mentioned that she had read a book by Lynne Farrows called the Iodine Crisis which states that 95% of women are iodine difficient. This woman said she has followed that regime and her syptoms are greatly improved.

It's worth taking a look at it.

I have a nurse friend that I was talking to about this just on Sunday and she was just talking about how I needed to at least mix in iodized salt in with the sea salt I have been using exclusively for about a year. She said its in there for a reason and my body needs it. She is very often right about everything she tells me!

I believe it, Kimmiesue! Very similar to when they added Vitamen D to milk! To prevent ricketts! I'm annoyed with my kids and husband for not beleiving me!

I just went and ordered the book on Iodine that I mentioned above.

I do think these auto immune diseases are related to a bigger picture.

So maybe this is too sneaky but I'm going to mix the two. Maybe you should too.

Did they also do ultra sound on the nodules? I'm to have an ultrasound of my thyroid.

I read that 50% of women have one module by age 50. Very common apparently.

Iodized salt is heavily sulfited (preservatives) to achieve that perfect white colour, and so its far better to use a good sea salt, also cornstarch is always bleached with sulfites too!  In fact, any food that is pure white has been bleached with sulfites, like sugar for example.

Ok, well from what I've been reading after talking to my nurse friend, it takes just a little over 1/2 a teaspoon of iodized salt for most adults to get 100% of their daily intake. We should be getting about 150 mcg/day. There are other foods that have it but it sounds like maybe you don't eat most of those foods. You have to get it somehow or your thyroid won't work properly. **If** there was a link between LS and thyroid issues, it seems you'd want to make sure you are getting the proper amount of iodine and from what I've read having that small amount of iodized salt per day is the easiest way to get it. There are supplements too though that you can discuss taking with a Dr.

Thanks for that! I am probably not getting my daily 150 mcg, and so I will order some dried kelp flakes to be on the safe side...

Ok, be careful with that as well. One article I read (www.wikihow.com/Add-More-Iodine-to-Your-Diet) specifically warned to not eat too much seaweed, especially kelp, as it can provide iodine in excess or it can cause other health issues. The recommend eating only once a week I guess.

I just love that we can all learn from each other since no one seems to have had that much luck with their Dr knowing what to do other than to prescribe steroids!

I think I read somewhere that kelp is a No no for thyroid diseases. I'm not an expert but might be worthwhile checking before you start it.

My thyroid seems to be fine, I had it tested not that long ago, thank goodness.. Are you saying that people shouldn't take it if they have thyroid disease, or anything wrong with their thyroid.
    • Posted

If you have thyroid imbalance you shouldn't take it, if I remember correctly. But might not hurt to research it To be sure.

I did pick up that book and it is quite an interesting read. She says that Iodized Salt isn't the best as the Iodine dissipates in the air and in storage. She also doesn't recommend seaweed as a means of getting Iodine because of all of the polution in the water.

So, what's a girl to do? LOL! The more you read the more you just want to crawl under the bed and eat ice cream!

Ok thanks, I will look at that link.  I do take a lot of supplements, but none of them contain Iodine, so it is important to have it.  The problem with some doctors is that they are sometimes guessing with regard to treatment, and incredibly some don't even acknowledge that there is a food connection to LS.

I need to use bleach free TP. I'm going to try natural colored sugar.
