Thyroid nodule on scan?

I had a neck ultrasound on a Monday to check a lumpy thing like a boil on the back of neck. It had been there for years and never changed and was assumed a lymph node but got infected and swelled and I had neck swelling too.
I had the scan on the Monday afternoon and was told there were no lymph nodes, my lump was most likely a sebaceous cyst and my salivary glands were ok. (I had had stones there previius).
I thought it strange that she said my scan would be back with my gp in a day or two and the following day it was back with my gp.
I then received a letter on the Wednesday to make a non urgent appointment to see her and was given on just over a week later.
I went on Saturday and was told I had a thyroid nodule and they needed to do a fine needle aspiration biopsy. I had no idea tbh. I had neck pain previous assumed arthritis and swelling and my face often swells. I do feel really cold always and I suffer extreme anxiety and other symptoms but never related them to a thyroid problem.
When I read about thyroid nodules and thyroid disorders I would assume my symptoms would relate more to an underactive thyroid, not overactive.
Reading on there is something about hot nodules and cold nodules.I have no idea what mine is yet.
Does the biopsy hurt and do they numb it? How long does it take for the results or are they instant?
Thanks to anyone that can answer. My husband asked if it's possible it could be cancer and she said yes it could be unlikely. I really don't want the thyroid out.
Thanks

Karen my gallbladder was full of gallstones, I felt nauseous and in pain all the time...the pain was so bad that nothing I took OTC helped. It didnt need to have it taken out since it's not life threatening but I am really glad I did...I have been pain free since then. I can actually eat without feeling like I am going to puke my guts out everytime. They did it laparoscopic, there are only 3 little scars on my abdomen and I dont regret it one bit, I didn't really had it taken out because of my HA tbh, because once I know where the pain is coming from I dont get anxieties over it, I did it because the pain was unbearable.
Oh no, I dont like attention and specially not that kind...

No is not, it was the fact that I obsessed for weeks it was pancreatic cancer. I was sure, I diagnosed myself. I didnt want to go to the doctor because I didn't want to be told I had weeks to live. It was awful, I wasnt working then because I was on maternity leave and I kept kissing my kids because I knew, i was sure I was dying. I obsess over something and I make it cancer

Oh I see Jenny. Fear of something simple that's not somatic being cancer.

I only asked when I was just about to go into theatre about my ear being cancer and he replied he really didn't know.

I went down and was out then. I was told my ear surgery was mandatory and needed. I did try to put it off too because of work. It wasn't elective.

The nhs are hot with ruling out cancer but that's it. They stop there. They don't check for other things because they aren't life threatening. Our waiting lists are horrendous.

Scary isnt it? When they dont know. I still have this little lump on my chest (near my clavicle area) that's the one they ultrasound about 3 weeks ago and the ultrasound didnt pick up anything, it came back clear. My PCP said it's just probably tissue since nothing showed up, but see he said probably, he is just guessing, he doesnt really know. But since nothing showed up I have no choice but to leave it alone for now, although he did say I can try again next year with another ultrasound. At least I should know next Saturday (Nov 4) when I get my breast ultrasound whats going on.

I hope your ultrasound goes well jenny. I'm sure it will. At least it's not a mammogram. They hurt if you have pain already. In fact I think I'm due one soon again. We have 5 yearly checks here. I had my last one and it showed up new lumps. I went along to the hospital and was given another mammogram, it was then they asked me to get my husband in and next thing I knew I was having an ultrasound BUT the ultrasound girl couldn't find them. She went to get the doctor who was the same doctor who biopsied my last lump, and she did the ultrasound. She said I was fine and told me it was just lymph nodes up. She told me I had lumpy breast because of my weight was lowish.
Another scare.

Here in the US everything is private, health insurance is really expensive but the good thing is that there is no waiting you get to be seen fairly quick. A lot of times they order tests that you dont really need but like I said it's good for business, it keeps the economy going.

Yeh I can see what you mean and here we are medicated too much for things and the side effects of drugs lead to,another drug. But I'm ok with taking a drug IF it's really needed. I have hypertension. Bad hypertension at times. I don't have symptoms but have been taken into, hospital a few times with it. I once tried to come off the meds because I hated them but I ended up poorly again. I know I need them so I take them. I found years of antidepressants actually screwed me up more than ever. I had very bad withdrawal. I actually feel some side effects are life long.
We need tests though to prove conditions. Without medical proof insurance companies don't pay out on things like life insurance. In fact if we only have symptoms on our records without a diagnosis and we are later diagnosed with something serious and go to claim on the insurance, the insurance companies look back on your records and go through it with a fine tooth comb and can call it pre existing.,they say you had symptoms of that before. They don't pay out. The ombudsman here is full of cases.
