Time of work after hysterectomy?
Posted , 10 users are following.
Hi Ladies,
I'm due to have a abdominal hysterectomy with a vertical cut due to large fibroids in December. I know everybody is different, but I was wondering how long most of you have stayed of work for? I'm a bit worried as it is advised not to do any lifting for a long time, but my work involves a lot of heavy lifting and being on my feet all day long.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I had 8 weeks off work and went back on phased return where I have been working reduced hours for a month to ease me back. You definitely will know when the time comes if your ready or not but I would say if you can don't over do it you will need time for you body to get back to normal. Hope this helps all the best.

It's a big operation and you're still need to take things easy for a long time x

I had an horizontal TAH done mid Sept.
I had 8 weeks off and 2 week phased return.
However my job involves very little heavy lifting.
I would say go for 3 months and then review .

I had a total vertical abdominal hysterectomy on 1st October, so I am 7 weeks post op and I am still taking it easy. Luckily I haven't got work to go back to, but I wouldn't go back until at least 8 weeks. In fact I would give yourself 3 months because your job involves lifting. Your abdominal scar may be healed on the outside, but that does not mean that your healed completely on the inside. Best to be on the safe side so you don't get any set backs. I hope all goes well for you. Sharon

I forgot to mention that I also had large fibroids (size of a 26 week pregnancy). It was a difficult operation, so my surgeon told me to take it really easy.

Ok... I JUST had an abdominal hysterectomy (FULL VERTICAL CUT DOWN LOWER BELLY) last Monday. It is 9 days later today... I had 22 staples removed 2 days ago.. AND BOY AM I SORE!
Very red inbetween some areas.
My dr. told me I could drive today (9 days later), but I am NOT to work for 8 weeks. She is not budging on this. I had a 6 lb. fibroid tumor removed, plus uterus, cervix, and 1 ovary. I am 52, and was in good health, even taught a part time dance class.
I went out today, 6 hours.. BAD BAD decision.. I am very sore now.
You WILL be out for a good 7-8 weeks, especially if you have the giant fibroids. Even with a desk job (I work at a jr. high school), she told me NO.. I would be sleeping at my desk by mid-day. It will wipe you out a bit.. there will be GOOD days and some SORE/TIRED days... I am still having the sore/tired days.. but being Italian I am stubborn.. I need to listen!
I actually watched it on uTube... I needed to know what was going to happen.
Oh... try not to LAUGH, COUGH, or SNEEZE.. oh boy... it still is sore for me!
All the best Trish...you can do it girl!
Hugs from Mary in CT

You know... I saw 2 friends today, that saw me out.. they were like GO HOME, REST.. my dr. told me 2 days ago.. "you can drive", "no long road trips"... I want to listen to my dr., but all the advice I'm getting is NO.. NOT YET.. I am VERY sore tonight, alot of up and down from my Hummer.. too high. Staying in tomorrow, maybe the next day too..
Did you have that CONSTANT sore pain??? I can't stand it.. And sleeping is horrible, as I am a side sleeper

I forgot to add... NO.. NO HOT FLASHES.. My doctor was able to leave "one" ovary.. She told me that one ovary can act like TWO! So no hot flashes...thank god

GLAD TO KNOW I AM NOT THEONLY ONE THAT WATCHED IT ON UTUBE, LOL.. IT IS HELPFUL TO "UNDERSTAND" EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING.
THAT PAIN/BURNING HAPPENED/HAPPENS TO ME.. STILL... MY DR. TOLD ME IT'S THE "NERVES" RE-CONNECTING.. AND IT HAPPENS RIGHT AT THAT INCISION LINE...
I HAD SOME GOOOOOOOOD ZINGS!
ASK YOUR DR. ABOUT CEFLEX! AFTER 2/3 DAYS THAT FEELING WAS GONE! I ONLY HAD TO TAKE IT A WEEK OR SO... NOW I AM OK.. NO MORE PAIN/BURN FEELING.
I TOO HAD THAT "KICKED" FEELING... CRAZY WE HAD TO GO THROUGH THAT HUH!
I NOW FEEL WIERD SLEEPING ON SIDE, MY STOMACH IS STILL "EGG SHAPED", LOL ... DR. TOOK OUT A 4 LB. TUMOR ALONG WITH THE REST.. I AM STILL SWOLLEN, MORE ONTHE LEFT KINDA FUNNY LOOKING.
IS YOUR LINE REALLYTHICK, FEELS LIKE AN OLD STRAIGHT TELEPHONE CORD; LOL... FEELS WIERD! MY DR. SAID IT WILL GO DOWN AND LEAVE JUST A FINE RED LINE...
I GUESS A GOOD 6 MONTHS OR SO UNTIL...
HUSBAND CALLS ME "BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN" IT'S OK...
BUT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT WE WENT THROUGH, JUST THOSE THAT HAD IT!
AND HERE'S TO 2015, AND ALL OF US HERE THAT WENT THROUGH IT, OR WILL BE GOING THROUGH IT!
THIS WILL BE OUR YEAR LADIES!!! WOOOT WOOT!

YES...let's hope 2015 is a GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT year for ALL OF US here!!!!!
No one deserves to be "worried", "in pain", "sad".... we will all get through this!
Have to tell you... I worked last 2 days, first time back since Nov.... I am EXHAUSTED coming home! And I have to still take care of my 91 yr old father... not enough time to rest.. too many things to do
And yesterday at school, we had an evacuation.. Iwas outside, in the 20 degree weather for 2 hours... FREEZING.. no gloves, and a coat that was not warm
Hoping for a better day today at school.... hope you have a GREAT day!
And thank you for being a great friend here to all!
