Time to be very careful

Hi Fellow Hippies

I just spent the last 24 hours in hospital after accidently over dosing on one of my meds. I have now used my phone alarm system to make sure I don't make the same mistake again.

The pain medication I took was not just a pain reliever it is also a respiratory depressant. Other than the fact of taking all these pain meds at every opportunity and still being in constant although a bit more bearable pain this is one of the reasons I can't wait to get my hip done and get off them. NSAID and opioids are the worst types of meds to be on. I was diagnosed with asthma many years ago. Although I don't usually suffer from it so don't beleive I have it.and have been miss diaghnosed. Therefore I should not be taking ibuprophen. But it has been priscribed for me annother nasty medication that can cause heart attacks.. I really can't wait to get off them and just have some pain meds to kill any pain while I heal.

Oh Hailea - You hit a nerve with being held down as a child. My heart is beating faster, just thinking about your fears.  I am not frightened of needles, weeeelllll a little, but I have got over that, I have to inject myself weekly with methrotrextrate for with arthritis.nI was tied down hands and feet, for dentistry as child, I cannot do dentistry, just thinking about it now has my hands shaking.  I have talked to my Dr about it, and done some research also, explained how bad I am. He presctibed Valium. I arrive at dentist half an half before appt, ask for a glass of water, (yes they now laugh at me), and down 3 x 5mg tablets, by the time they call me, I am quiet sedated/drunk, and need help walking the corridor to the dentist chair, tablets help make it easier for me. But fear never completely goes away. One friend of the family, a dentist even suggested I sit in and be his nurse while family members are treated, he said that would solve the problem of my phobia, that I can do, after he was finished with my husband, he looked at me, and said now your turn. I bailed our of there and ran for my life.

Hi Lynn I can assure you I do not do dentists either I know what you mean the dentists around when I was at school were butchers NO WAY would that drill or needle go any where near me once I had a choice. My mouth was ruined by a dentist I do not trust them AT all in ANY WAY not even wild horses will drag me. eek

Hailea - I still remember when the specialist told me I would have to be injecting medicine instead of taking by mouth, as I wasn't getting the Metrotxetrate into my blood stream as required. (only a fraction)AHHHHHHHHHH.  She looked at me and said quite bluntly "8 year olds inject themselves a couple of times a day if they are insulin dependant". That made me sit up and take notice. I must admit my needle phobia wasn't that bad, but even so. I have not got over giving myself needle, my heart still beats a little faster, but I believe some gentle coaching from my GP, in how to inject myself, he did not rush me, and allowed me to do it at my own rate, I have got pretty good at it, No Bruising. GP has recently given me permisson to inject my husband with fluvax, we were not able to pick up until past 7pm at night, and holding it till next day not advised, so he said, youre used to doing injections, you give it to him. His opinion, he didn't even feel it.

My needle phobia will always be as bad as it is because the trauma I have gone through as a child will stay with me and nothing will erase it. I am just glad things have changed  ( well mostly ) where treatment can't be forced although I have had some nurses say " come on grow up and get over it " I have turned round and said would you talk to a depressed person like that ? No well shut up then this is a real problem for me and you have to understand. If you don't you're in the wrong job.
