After having a few really good and painless days last week the pain is back with a vengeance....I've hardly slept all weekend ...my knee is painfull  tight and heavy

once again the painkillers are in use.

has anyone else had this happen ...I'm wondering if something has gone wrong with the knee

Sorry Jean but this happens all the time during this recovery. I remember getting very frustrated by setbacks all the time at about 8 to 12 weeks. During the last month I can see an overall improvement but even this weekend after a really good day on Friday when I walked about 3/4 mile home from a night out I had 2 days when my knee was sore and painful.

I doubt very much that there's anything gone wrong with your knee. Keep your chin up. Jen

i had the same thing happen at 9 weeks with my 2nd knee , now at 13 weeks all has gone and back to normal , think the 10 12 weeks seem to have a set back and then gets better ,

well, i can only echo what everybody else has said. i think it is par for the course. sadly. and frustratingly.

a week ago i was just in agony, totally out of the blue, with both knees and was icing and massaging them at 4 o'clock in the morning. by the time i got to my therapist in the afternoon, i was in tears and could hardly walk. she told me it was the full moon! imagine! but she waved her magic wand and the pain was gone. so i have to believe what she said ;-)

i also felt the bad weather coming, i.e the damp. this week they are predicting snow (groan!!) so i can imagine that this will be reflected in my knee as well.

jean, my gut feel tells me there will be many more ups and downs for all of us. remember what your surgeon said, it takes 12 months. which is FOR-EV-URRRRR i know. so please don't worry, your knee is fine. just all the other bits trying to heal and get back into shape.

yes jean ,i have been there twice , this is a hard op to get over ,really tough , ive done it twice and at 13 weeks post op on knee two i have just gone back to work , and for all you others who may need a second knee done its much quicker as you know the best way to do things that you had problems with the first time round . today ive had a real yough day with work ,i work in a school kitchen which feeds 1700 people , but today we have had a rememberance lunch with an extra 100 , ive not been offered any rehab at all , but although its been hard , im still glad i had the other one done and i can focus on life again , may even have a well earned drink if i keep my eyes open long enough lol ,

      Hi debbie

thats a really hard job that you do.

i suppose at this stage we all say never again ...but you are right about knowing how to deal with it the second time around.

you enjoy your well deserved drink

      and look after yourself

thanks jean , work is hard and tough with lots of bending, twisting , lifting ,walking , but ive done it now no going back lol , pleased its all over now ,still get pain in the numb side but guess that will be the hardest ,it tingles as the nervers get back together . still think it was the right thing to do ,i can walk with others now instead of them waiting for me ,it was getting to the point when i woke up i wasnt too stiff and thats come back a little but im sure that will go again the doc thinks up to 8 weeks when people return to work so onwards and up wards smile , good luck your corner is near now

you will be just fine , the only thing i found hard was getting in with the right leg ,i had to put the seat right back then pull it forward , the driving was just as normal , the left leg was no problem at all , good luck x

      Hi Debbie

I drove yesterday....and as you say ...seat pushed right back to swing my right leg into the car then obviously adjusted so I could drive

it was no problem and although I didn't drive far ...I was so proud ....another step forward

My car is an automatic ...but obviously living in the UK that's the leg I use for everything

imanaged fine and won't be afraid to drive again
