TKR Incision site looks inflamed

Posted , 15 users are following.

I am three weeks post op.I had my staples out last Monday and the wound looked neat  and had healed well.

This evening, after doing my knee bending and stretching exercises, the  incision site is red and warm.

Oh! Dear! Is something amiss?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am also starting my third week at home, the incision surrounds is always warmer than other areas, i think you would know if infection is setting in as redness/inflamation would spread fast...physio tells me go easy on the bends post staple removal....aftet a few days move forward with all excetcises.

Thank you all for your advice and concern. It looks normal again this morning but I will definitely keep an eye on it.I dread getting an infection and then go backwards. Perhaps I overdíd the bending and it pulled where the staples had been.It worried me with the redness and heat. I will take it easy for a few more days and just use my sit down minibike for the bend.

Insition site is healing ! Red outside and warm outside the wound is fine! I am 5 weeks after my TKR and still warm on some parts of my wound. Early days but normal!

Saralice, is it warm and red along the whole line? I had an area that an inside stitch that didn't disolve worked it's way out of. I want to say it's probably normal, but my surgery was 22 months ago and I can't remember the details. I would say continue icing it and watch it. Is there pain?

No, it's not inflamed along the whole line. It has cooled down now and looks much better. The enforced bend must have stretched the wound.

    ?Thank you

I'm at six weeks. Scar has now healed well, is less tender and pins and needles are going. The line itself is a purple red colour. My knee is not really swollen and not painful other than during or just after exercises. It is however always much warmer than the other one. i put this down to increased blood flow as the body tries to repair the internal damage?

P.S Now properly healed I have found that bio-oil massage has improved stinging/pins and needles although of course this may have happened with time anyway.
