TO ALL POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMEN: Did your symptoms cease, subside, or get worse?

Hey Ladies...

Yes, its me again! I have been posting regularly; I enjoy this site immensely! It helps me get through the term MENOPAUSE, or shall I say MENTALPAUSE!! I am fully-aware, I am NOT alone on this HORRIFIC journey, and you ladies assure me of that obvious fact. I am NOT CRAY-CRAY; my hormones are imbalanced, just like you all's.. I've read and been told when our period ceases for 12 consecutive months, we will feel better! Well shut the front door and call me Mary! That is NOT true, your Honor. I am DEEP in the throes of postmenopause; my period stopped four years ago, and my post menopausal symptoms got WORSE!! That being said, if any of you lovely ladies are post-menopausal, have your symptoms gotten better, worse, or manageable?

    Hi,

I'm 19 months post menopause and my symptoms are defiantly worse now than they were peri . I also thought that once you hit the 12 month mark, your symptoms would magically disappear 😂 or start to fade away , but no such luck, not yet anyway. But I read on the nhs website that symptoms usually last 2-4 years after your period stops and sometimes longer 😬

Im so glad youre feeling better. I as well went trough it really bad in 2019 I though I was going CRAZY. But I had similar symptoms when I had postpartum 27 yrs ago. Its a harmone imbalance. Prayers and eating healthy its whats helping me cope now with menopause I make sure to have organic lean meat twice a day its good for our cognitive health, dark vegetables, rice , grains, potatoes, squash, pasta, organic 2%lactose milk for calcium, fruits bananas are my favorite . strawberries and blue berries are my go too as well. 80#dark chocolate its yummy now lol. I try to stay away from fake sugar and process food. I cook my meals. I take a low dosage of vitamin d3 a low dosage of magnesium and childrens codliver oil. And Im feeling better emotionally I still have other complaints but Im not where I was. Im not crying everyday or that nervouse feeling that was taking control of me. little by little it gets better I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Amen! Today is my first time in patient info. I hope all you guys get well God help us.

@Anxiousface if you dont mind me asking , what symptoms did you still have in post? I also had hormone issues in my teens & before peri hit . Sometimes i wonder if thats why im dealing with a rough time now.

      hi mary

my hormone problem is i have a pituitary tumour adjacent to my brain which secrets a hormone so that is why it hit me hard, i also have a low THS level in my thyroid.

the symptoms i still have postmeno is my ibs is so much worse, headaches, balance ,nausea and more hot flushes. i also have times i feel i can't cope and get irritated with myself. i can't stand for long as i feel i will faint. the anxiety is getting better but put me in a situation im unsure of and it will kick off.

i had terrible periods from my teens, so happy not to have them anymore.

      Hey Toria...

Thanks for your insight. Hopefully, the ladies who are STILL postmenopausal will be kind enough to let us know, by posting their truths on this forum. BTW: How was your birthday; did you enjoy yourself?

      Hey Toria...

I'm glad you had a GOOD birthday!! You're welcome. I am doing okay, right now. IDK what post-menopausal tomorrow will bring, or in what manner it will visit me. Anyhoo, I hope your pains subside. Regarding your fibroids/endometriosis, have you ever called ANY of the 24-hour toll free prayer lines, so that someone can pray for you regarding your pains?

      Warmest Regards,

Beyond worse. As soon as my periods stopped all hell broke loose - I had been experiencing all sorts of symptoms which had been manageable until wham - 12 months no periods and I went to hell.

Heart palpitations, night sweats, the worst anxiety and my mental health plumetted - it is horrible and has been two years.

Post menopause is the worst part of the journey for me.

      Hello Menomel..

Your post is very vivid and honest! Sorry to hear that your symptoms have gotten beyond worse and unbearable. Are you having racing, negative & intrusive thoughts as well? Are you experiencing horrible dreams? Many women dont talk about the MENTAL issues that come with menopause, or shall I say MENTALpause?

The negative thoughts and rumination have been the worst and I have tried everything all the holistic remedies with no success. I find it gets worse towards end of month - really ramps up and I wake up almost in a panic thinking what a bad person I am for no reason, all I get is negative thoughts - its so horrible.

I've got the most supportive husband thank heavens as this is so hard and feeling this way is horrible.

I would deal with hot flushes readily but the mental health is the worst and got triggered as soon a my periods stopped - I have never experienced anything like this in my life and had no idea this would happen.

Post menopause is definitely the worst part of my journey and I had a tough peri with fainting, brain fog. etc

There's little/no judgement when we ask questions or post them. We are encouraged, informed, and enlightened.... on this STELLAR forum!

      Hey Toria..

And to think you're STILL in peri. Per my previous post, the symptoms get WORSE, when your menses ceases! Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my!

      Hey Toria...

Your point is VERY valid and well-taken!! I understand what you're conveying. The PAUSES are horrific, regardless of which pause any of us are in. The STELLAR peri, meno & post stories are few and far between.

      Be well my sista,

When i entered peri 5 yrs ago i thought i would lose my mind. From insomnia, horrid and horrific dreams, suicidal thoughts, anger, depression, constantly crying. Thank God i don't have those symptoms anymore. I know a lady who was admitted into a mental institution because of menopause, its not to be taken lightly.
