I have heard to many different views on this, so after a TKR what is your view?

Enjoyed all the comments about kneeling but how does one get up and down from the floor gracefully?  I find it hard to get up and down from the gym floor especially, without 'sticking' my bottom in the air when trying to get up. Not very lady like.  😀

Patricia, pretend you are doing a yoga move, since you are at the gym. There is definitely nothing very graceful about it. Most the time, it is in the privacy of my own home, so it doesn't matter. But there have been a few times (like a picnic and a play when we were all seated on a blanket) and well, you gotta do what you gotta do. smile

Hi Patricia, I at moment can't kneel on new knee but if on ground or down on other knee find it incredibly hard to get back up again unless there is something to pull myself up on. If not i sit on bottom and then struggle up from there

      I agree not very ladylike!!!

Grace is just a girl's name and doesn't pertain to movement any more after a tkr. Don't get down unless you have a chair or stool of some sort to practice getting up and down. Request all video equipment to be shut off and just do the best you can trying to figure a way to get up. Then practice doing every move very slowly. It will probably never be the way it was. That is what is commonly referred to as the new normal.

How does one get up and down...very, very carefully!!! When I'm trying to get up, I look like I'm doing the Yoga position of the Downward dog...lol. Rump in the air...not lady like at all, but it works. Where there's a will, there's a way.

My Orthopedic surgeon told me, go ahead and try it. Just be careful and put a kneeling pad or something soft down to kneel on. If it feels OK, fine...if not, then don't do it. Some of us will be able to kneel and some not. We're all different. I used to be able to sit like a frog, but found out that's out of the question now...sigh...Oh, well, it's a trade off I guess.

A bit of advice from me, A coouple of months ago my daughter bought a 2nd had 3 legged stool for her 18 month old to sit on, it is very sturdy and I have managed to sit on it for about 10 minutes and get up fairly easily as long as I am near somthing like the setee so I can pull myself up onto my feet again,

News 9 months on and I can get off the floor easier, unsure if my regular lawn bowling has helped me, but it has certainly helped build my confidence and manovourability. Most of the time I now forget I have has a TKR. I tried to kneel again the other day but it still hurts on the scar area (doesnt hurt generally), so i am now going to try and work on crossing my legs over the next 3 months to see if I can succeed in doing this, tried the other day and very uncomfortable, my physio suggested it try it for a few seconds, a few times a day and try and build up the stretch slowly. Hows everyone else doing now?
