Everyone feels the same Billy, we are all scared. It is only afterwards you realize the anxiety was uncalled for. Good luck with the surgeon today.

I was like this Monday but within 30 minutes of my appt all was sorted and now on the waiting list for RTHR. I know one thing tho it made me realise that if you're really unwell they'll always listen to you. Just make sure you tell them how bad your pain is at its worst and the same for any difficulties with moving etc. The one I found the most taxing was the OT but I just told her I couldn't go on living in pain and having a much lower quality of life. The consultant was great. He realised how sore I was etc. and once you start telling them the mobilty aids you're already using they know you def need the op. This was after he'd told me my hip had ' shot it's...lol
Good luck

Thich Nhat Hanh . . . "Make decisions with a calm mind." Go on line and google "what questions should I my surgeon ask concerning total hip replacement surgery?" Bring a pad and pencil and when you sit with the surgeon make sure you ask specific questions and write down the answers. If possible, bring someone with you. If not, you've got this. Keep breathing, stay focused and ask those questions.
ps - I am 6 weeks post-op TRHP and turning another corner in a healthy direction. It is and has been a roller coaster, so remember that everything you're feeling is normal. Be your own best advocate. Prior to surgery, I purchased a hip replacement kit from Amazon, an extra grabber, two raised toilet bowl seats, and awesome ice and microwave pack and some other items. If you want me to share what I purchased, just respond. First, speak to your doctor. If you work full-time, talk about how much time you will need to stay home from work. I live alone with my 2 dogs . . . not sure how different our situations are. I also live in the USA.
Good luck,
Georgette

to be honest with everyone at the moment I am really considering cancelling it and just taking my chances. Never felt so misinformed by anything as much as I have about this.

Why do you want to cancel? The only person who will miss out is you yourself. You don't want to go through all this again, now you have actually got into the queue.

True words 🙄 can't understand why you would be happy to cancel, as said it's you that will miss out, the hip won't get any better....I know there are too many negative stories out there, but ya have to stay positive and let the guys who know what to do, to do there jobs...

have you ever heard a surgeon saying the op would be difficult for him cos I have big muscle structure. ? This is a con to keep the figures here in Scotland right. if my hip had been broken would there be all this fiasco. I think not . it's all a farce as far as I can see lol

Do you think the surgeon was just being honest and letting you know the situation in your case? Did you find out what effect thus would have on the op? I must admit I cannot understand why doing an operation with someone with a big muscle structure would particularly affect the figures. I know in my case I was bone on bone so the surgeon had extra problems, but I am not sure that this had any affect as such on his track record except to show he was a good surgeon.

ok to put it this way if you're consultant left half way through the consultation that he was already an hour and a half late for to go out and say hi to someone ten comes back into the room and says he has missed his lunch and basically through you out would you be happy.
i asked which approach he would be doing , anterior, latterial or posterior, he ignored me, when i asked how many cases of hip infection had the hospital had all he could reply was 0.6 less than the average. Not for me i am adraid

What you are saying is you are not happy with the consultant not that you have a problem with the process? I must admit it does sound rather a bizarre attitude. How long was the appointment? I know mine was delayed a couple of hours and took about ten minutes. You seem to have had a series of non sequitors, he tells you about the muscle problem, he then refuses to answer you about the approach used, he is called out, but does come back, he says he has not had lunch then finishes the appointment. Did he put you on a waiting list? A lot of surgeons have appalling bedside manners, mine does but he is a brilliant surgeon.

Having worked with many surgeons over the yrs ( retired nurse) I'd agree with you abt appalling bedside manners. They like their patients best asleep under anaesthetic. Lol. Some manage to be better than others but it's down to their personality.

It is lucky they are at their best when we are asleep! My father is a doctor and he is dreadful! Most of my doctor surgeon friends are too. One gynae friend said that the trouble is you think of the technical side and not necessarily the patient. On the other hand I would prefer a rude, good surgeon rather than a friendly second rate one.

Lol definitely prefer a rude but good surgeon.
