Tongue tied and memory loss

Posted , 14 users are following.

I've been going through the menopause for a couple of years now, I'm 52 and just about able to cope with hot flushes and my family put up with my mood swings! But I'm worried about this sort of memory loss, does anyone else experience this, can't remember the exact word I need and then sometimes I'm even tongue-tied and can't get my words out! Is this normal, because i am worried!

Amanda, I used to be a good listener, and could remember not only people's names, but everything about them. Now I have the brain of a goldfish, can't remember what I went outside/upstairs for, and get stuck for a simple word in the middle of as sentence. Sometimes, I rush to get my point or story out, just so I don't forget it and end up cutting across other people, so they think I am rude. Anxious face, as for writing things down, I get through so many notebooks at work and am always furiously scribbling! I use the alerts on my ipad all the time, to remind me to remember things, as well as using post it notes and tying knots in my bag, putting tins by the door etc, that's how I get by!

On Jayneejays recommendations on previous posts, I'm taking B6, plus Evening Primose Oil and Sage Tablets.

This strange combination helps with the brain fog and I generally can get through a day without wondering what the h*ll was going on around mebiggrin. My boss thinks I'm really organised because I make notes on everything - bit it's just so I remember. My oulook calendar is also full of reminders and lists to keep on top of everything!

At least you know you're not the only one out there. Hugs X

    Hi Amanda,

It's the same for me, too! I am forever getting sidetracked and forgetting what it was I was doing. And as for getting tongue-tied! My husband keeps supplying words, usually the wrong ones, when I struggle to say what I mean. We're turning into a Two Ronnies' sketch! The other day I couldn't explain myself to the doctor in ways he could understand, when all I was trying to do was shamefacedly admit I had forgotten where I'd put a letter he gave me (5 months ago...where did the time go???) with an important number on it. It was obviously my NHS number (I was supposed to pick a hospital and ring them, quoting this number, for an MRI scan) but I kept trying to call it my customer number! He did ask if absent-mindedness was a problem and asked if my periods are still regular (they are).

I have been feeling such an idiot, forgetting simple words, names, conversations! You're definitely not alone!
