Too much too soon.

4 weeks post op and feeling amazing! Then yesterday I had a full-on day of going out in the car, popped into shop, saw friends and had friends over fir dinner (husband did all the food though) and felt absolutely exhausted, sore and saw fresh blood for the first time since week 2.

Is this ok do you think?

I feel ok today, just stiff from moving too much I think as I've been pretty much couch bound since the start.

I was thinking, this stinging and soreness, the surgeons must have had to stretch our openings quite a bit don't you think? Makes me squirm at the very thought of it, but that might account for that stinging, possibly?

Any thoughts?

The physio at the hospital told me it's never too early to start doing pelvic floor exercises

      ....hi rosie

and ours insisted that we don't do them til 6 weeks post op.

It must really depend on what parts you had reupholstered. Ours, considering the stitches required, needed time for those to knit before we started pulling the muscles around by doing pelvic floors. And those with tape needed for the tape teeth to I'm bed nicely into the walls

I just wish that the info they give out was the same to everyone,so much conflicting advice. Baths/no baths,exercise/no exercise. Grrrr makes me so cross

Yes Rosie, that's what got me too. I know we all heal at different rates but there should be some consistency in the advice. I tried pelvic floor exs in the first few weeks but gave up as it was too sore. Patsy's right, muscles need to heal. Eventually at about 8 weeks I downloaded a kegel app which gives you a timed progression. It means you don't just do some pull ups at the kitchen sink when you remember. The gynae physio, for whom I waited 7 months for an appt, is happy that something encourages me to make the exs a regular habit and just part of the daily routine.

I must have struck lucky with my gynaae physio as I got an appointment 8 weeks post op,unfortunately she couldn't examine me then as I was still so sore and was bleeding still. Saw her again 2 weeks ago and she said all was healed nicely and to go home and try sex again. Sadly it wasn't a success,I feel as though I have been sewn up way too tight. Was meant to go to see her again this afternoon but have a nasty repiratory bug and coughing all the time isn't doing down below any favours. Is the kegel app on your phone, have heard of kegel exercisers but thought they were rather expensive. Need to get it all sorted though as I'm fed up with not having a sex life sad

It's called Kegel Aerobics and I downloaded it onto my ipad, so ok for phone too I guess. It just talks you through the exs, eg 'Contract' - 20 secs - 'Release' - 10 secs, and so on. It starts off really gently and builds up.

Thanks, may give that a try. My physio told me to do five sets of ten seconds each 3 times a day but uless you sit with a watch it's hard to judge how long you've done. Do you find it has been helpful to you?

Hi Rosie, yes I think it's helping. I feel a much stronger upward pull now. I like the way the app guides you through it, and there's a mix of long holds and quick ones which is apparently important. As well as that the physio has given me targets for 'functional exercises', eg I have to try holding for a few moments when out walking and doing half-holds getting out of a chair. She's going to measure the strength of my PF muscles when I go back in May, so we'll see. She did say that 3-6 months should see a difference in my 'slight' prolapse, but lifting the toddler might balance that out.

My granddaughter coming home from \Mexico in May,not seen her since last September so it's going to be really hard not to pick her up and cuddle her although I know I musn't,no weight over about 5 kg allowed ,she will be 18 months old by then so fortunately on her feet and running xx

You must be excited about seeing her! I know how lucky I am to be looking after our granddaughter. She's 21 months now, and can clamber up on the sofa and more usefully, into her car seat, so you shouldn't have to do much lifting. I also get down on the floor a lot, and she knows that's when to come over and cuddle. There are ways round everything!

Aw, that's sweet. I bet you remind baby's mum to do her PF exs ~ my daughters are fed up hearing about it!

One of my friends has 3 grown up children, and each one a plane trip away, so it must be hard. Enjoy the cuddles x
