Tooth extraction 5 months ago. Gum still not healed.

Posted , 6 users are following.

After a tooth extraction 5 months ago the gum still hasn't healed. My dentist referred me to hospital where i saw a specialist who sent me for an xray.

He said there was a shadow in that area and now organised a ct scan. After that a biopsy. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has been through this as i am becoming very nervous.

Hello .sorry to be a tad late replying to you ,but I haven't been on the site for a long-ish time .However ,I had a molar extracted ,surgically ,i might add ,big wuss regarding teeth .It had three stitches ,which were supposedly the melting variety. they did start to cause soreness ,so i went to my Dentist who removed them .sigh of relief .Then I found an irritating bit of something in the middle of the healing gum, so I tried to wriggle .poke ,play with it ,all to no avail, so I went to see the surgeon ..and of course ..it had gone, but he could see the hole where it had been, It did eventually heal, SO, you may find you have a bit of tooth root hanging in there ..

Thanks Jacqueline. The problem they found on the xray was a shadow under the gum. Since then i have had a biopsy which i now have stitches there and a CT scan. I am going to see surgeon on the 21 November. The stitches are supposed to be disolveable but haven't gone yet. As i said i will find out result on 21st. ( not looking forward to it). Thanks again for your reply.

Hello jill,, my dentist wasn't very impressed with the stitch material the surgeon used, she said it was old style, and would never dissolve.. My gum did take months to heal.. hope there is nothing in your gum except a piece of tooth. The same thing happened to me when I lived in S Ireland ,a piece of tooth finally wiggled it's way out, again I couldn't shift it ,but the surgeon did. Pity they aren't more careful when they extract ,and have a good look around for bits,,

Don't disappear ,,,, tell me how you get on ,.x

Thanks again Jacqueline. When i had this tooth removed the dentist said there had been an abscess under it. That had made it so loose although i wasn't in any pain. About a month later i was like you i felt something in it and wriggled it out. I also lost it. I had the tooth out 10th May so it is quite a long time to heal. Anyhow I've got the appt on 21 November so will let you know the result. The surgeon did say he didn't think it was anything sinister but when i asked what he thought it could be he said "I just don't know". ( not much help). Don't worry i won't disappear. Definitely let you know. Pleased to hear you eventually got better. Jill

The coincidences just keep piling up .I had big infection under my tooth ,but I knew something was causing all the pain, eating was a nightmare, but, It wasn't loose. I had it removed last September -ish. Spent the night in hospital, as they wouldn't let me go home by myself. I didn't have the faff with x rays ,that happened before the op. they do that to check if any nerves are in the way. Feeling at it now ,it just seems like a long flat blank can still feel where the hole was ,but no pain. Think your man is being a tad over cautious, or, are you paying for all the extras ?? Does it still hurt ?? forgot to ask you the most important bit !!!

Strange thing is it never did hurt. It was just very loose and she said the abscess was pushing the tooth. I never had an xray before the extraction it was only after when it wasn't healing and that really hurt. The dentist then referred me to an oral specialist (had to wait 3 months) and he organised xrays , biopsy and ct scan. Hope you're right and he is being over cautious but i think it's the shadow that's concerning them. No I'm not paying for this. Talking of coincidences. Are you the same Jacqueline. that's on the tinnitus forum as i have that too.? That's another nightmare. Jill

Morning jill, coffee time,, I did pay for my tooth job, dental surgeries are not the cleanest places, and I was determined that I was "Going Under " to have it done.,and there is not as much pre extraction care, The x ray was a must because there are nerves and other bits running under the teeth ,so the surgeon has to know where they run. The shadow could be some infection left over, AH YES

Tinnitus ,, I've had it for six years. I have been on the T group, but think I was removed , I did try to join the Main Tinnitus ,whatever it's called ,but I was denied access by the woman in charge of it ,,because I wouldn't give my personal details

on line, as I never do with anyone. so, she classed me as a TROLL ,,something I have never heard of .I actually went to their Head office to see her ,to ask why, spoke to a very nice man, had a cup of tea, and he told me the woman was in London, and he would speak to her. Still not allowed to join. I did see some TT

'ers somewhere ,so I joined in, and this woman was also on it, Needless to say I was "Deleted " from whatever it is. Possible re visit to the TT head office to try and confront her. I have an app with the hospital consultant on 29th of Nov.

mine was caused (I think) by damage to my neck, and a blow on top of my head,

Which apparently ,may have upset some nerves or neck bones ,But no one ever bothered to actually follow up on this ,but ,,,,, different consultant this time, Only ever seen one twice, !!!! My noise is now 24/7 and is loud,, increasingly loud, and sounds like a cave full of screeching bats ..I do have the White noise ear pieces which just makes the noise increase , This afternoon I am going to a self inflicted

Anxiety meeting,, because of the T T ,don't know why ,or even if there will be others there. Will tell you later .x

Hi Jacqueline firstly it's certainly not funny but i couldn't help but smile about the bats' noise. Mine is just a high pitched whistle. It's made worse by loud noises around. I was offered to join a group of fellow sufferers but didn't see the point. If i tilt my head to one side it gets worse and the specialist explained that it's the sound of blood pumping round. It's just a weird thing to have. I don't blame you for not giving your personal details out. I'm the same.

Anyway let me know how you get on later. Good luck. x

Evening jill,, sorry if my replies are mucho apart ,but the laptop lives in my bedroom .so I only use it breakfast, and after dinner. My noise is bedtime orientated ,,,when it's quiet.. So I have Radio 4 on (no music,) and take a low dose sleeping tab, just to get me off to sleep . Doc on Wednesday ,to bend his ears about other probs. which I collect now ,as an ongoing Things to do "" hobby.

Really nice to know you are here .Speak soon xx

Morning jill,,,it's coffee time , Xmas day last year my body rot started .Knew it would go downhill, I had to wait 12 hours for an ambulance .I was in great pain with a leg, Was checked over ,they decided it was sciatica,, in spite of the fact walking was difficult. I was sent home with a pair of crutches, and ,had to phone for a taxi. from then on I have collected germs and pains lumps and rashes, still have most of them ,,I won't give you all the details of these awful things, just to say I have been treated like a body that is of little use and left to sort myself out.

I do use vitamins and Herbs ,,thank goodness for H&B.

I had pink face and nose that was hot ,but didn't and it was decided I had Rosacea.

I googled it and checked loads of sites ,and professional sites, and finally discovered that I was getting burnt from my laptop.. so, I toned the brightness down and only used it for short periods,,until I can feel I'm piking up ,then slap some Camomile lotion on it calms down. doc Jax strikes back !!!!! Speak soon xx

Hello. Jacqueline i had the same problem with rashes. I worked in front. of a computer for 8hrs a day and my face swelled up and had a lovely bright red rash. (still got marks now). I had to call an ambulance this year through a gallbladder op that went wrong. Don't know what part of the country you're in but 12 hrs to wait is terrible. I waited about 10 mins. Must admit you're right. You have to work things out for yourself if possible. I'm off today must get something for these bites. Driving me mad. Take care x

Piriton is excellent stuff, i use it for this unnamed rash and lumps. but not all the time I stopped using prescription drugs about 3 years ago... Side effects usually so awful. My body has ,or, did have such bad reactions to everything they thought I should have, i'm just super sensitive to chemicals, I live in S Yorks , for now ,desperate to move back to the beach or country, Felt really awful yesterday when I got home,, total abdominal pain ,felt as though there was a rock up my rectum ,had that for a couple of weeks,, / Went to bed about 5 and took Paracetamol, my body accepts them ,This morning felt sore and twingy ,so had a coffee at 6 with 2 more tabs Drinking flavoured still water and using Manuka honey , Wonder what the doc will say about that!!!! Didn't ring for an ambulance

@as I have a fear of the hospitals in this city they have done such awful mistakes with me. Where did you find a mossie in November ??? Don't scratch !!!!!xxx

Hi there. well i think it's mosquitoes. It was really tiny and buzzing round my ear. Maybe it's this warm spell we're having plus i live near a lot of water. (river Avon). If it's not a mossie it's definitely something!! Afraid i am scratching them but bought insect repellent today and sprayed all over me. Awful smell! but will try anything. Hope they go before hospital visit next week. How long do these stitches take to dissolve Its been over 2 weeks now Feels like spider's legs in my mouth. Not looking forward to that one. Hope you feel better soon. Take care x

Hello, gotcha sooner this time,Stitches were exactly the same after three weeks and were making my cheek sore ,that's why I went to the dentist, a few snips ,,gone felt so much better, Pititon will take away the itch from inside.GET SOME !!!! All that awful pain has almost gone ,haven't eaten anything ,except a choccy mousse. that won't cause any problems sliding down .I did think about buying a barge to live on ..but all things that fly and bite rather put me off, as I appear to be regarded as dinner. Just noticed no funny faces on here now.

it's going to be a nice day tomorrow !!!!! so after seeing the doc .will take the car into Derbyshire to stretch his legs .Google Chatsworth Park, and you can see where I am going ,to see the Duke's deer herd ,speak soon XX
