      hi again Gail,

5 hours sleep is great !!!  seriously -

Are you on any blood thinning medication to prevent blood cloths?

you can expect to feel stiffness and discomfort for a while, darling --- just be prepared --

I felt like I was hit by a bus - everything started to hurt, from top of my head down to my toes - I think that I kept my body so tense and rigid ....

what are you doing to stay mobile ?  you are getting out of bed, go to the bathroom - maybe wash your self, get dressed ... something to eat - do some exercises --- I don't know -

there are no "should's" as we all are healing differently and at our own pace as well --

listen to your body - you might get tired easily ... if so, rest ... take lot of naps and don't worry too much about not being able to sleep at night ...healing takes so much energy -

      all is well -

be kind and gentle to your self ---

      angel blessings

      Morning Renee

Fast forward no slept last night but like you say it takes time.

      Yes on blood thinning tablets.

I try and get up and about every hour and are doing my exercises which the physio recommend, getting washed but that's about it at the moment.I try and have bed rest after lunch for an hour or so just to try and get some sleep.

I am also suffering lower back but only after being in bed.

Are we taking days or weeks till I see some improvements seeing my consultant next week that's 2 weeks post op.

many thanks for you kind words

Unfortunately this is part of the healing - or maybe I should say "fortunately"  -

quite challenging, Gail but it will get better -

There is no set time - sometimes you feel a lot better in a couple of days and the following day you feel like you will never get better ... so discouraging at times -

The best advice I can give right now is to just go with it ... no use in resisting how you feel - it will make it worse --- you don't feel good, that is fine -

If you had a broken leg, your leg would still be in a cast for many weeks to come, right ?

People have (or show) more compassion when you have a cold !!!!

Have you watched this surgery on youtube ?  It is not for the weak of stomach - After I watched it, I was in awe of 1) my body and 2) the surgical team ... Our bodies are amazing -

I think you are doing plenty for now - stop exercising when you are in pain, okay -

How is your mattress  ? sometimes putting a pillow under your knees, or feet will help -

I had a lot of pillows around me but still had an achy back -

How about listening to relaxation tapes? we don't realize how tense and rigid we are - Listening to someone who takes me through the process has helped me a lot -

No need to be obsessive about anything right now ...

Just surrender because it is what it is

Love, light and healing send your way

      Thank you so much Renee

You are so helpful and always seem to put my mind at rest.

I can understand everything you say and take all your valuable advice on board which is very much appreciated and bless you for being so detailed at explaining things.

I have been trying one crutch but not pushing it like I said to Louise still wobbly.

I have a family meal in a week and not sure if I should push myself to go.

      once again

      thank you

      take care

Just see if you are up to it - might be nice to get out and be with family - take pillow/cushion with you -so low.hard chairs won't be a problem -  or you can ask for one. of course ... nothing to be ashamed of ...

    Hi Gail,

I am in a very similar position to yourself.

8 days after surgery, very sore back in bed etc

I am also worrying constantly about whether I'm doing too much or not enough!

Wondering whether I'm making progress, or should be doing cartwheels 7 days after surgery!!!

At this stage, I am also only getting dressed, doing exercises and having a short walk every hour (ish)

I never thought I would miss tidying, ironing, hoovering etc  but I really am!! I'm itching to get the hoover out as no- one does it as well as me !!

I think Renee has given such lovely excellent advice.  Thanks Renee ??

I am new to this site and can't see any way to send you a private message but I will keep checking this discussion to see how you are progressing.

Take care, and try and stop worrying.

    Louise 😘

    Hi louise

Its comforting to know that we seem to be progressing but you seem much like me wanting some more day to day results which is frustrating and sometimes depressing.

Ive been trying to use 1 crutch occasionally but still a bit wobbly,so not pushing it.

Like you I'm desperate to do my house hold jobs and actually miss work which I can't believe I'm saying.

Its so nice to talk to someone in the same position and it really helps.

I have no idea to private message either so a project for tomorrow.

    take care

onwards and upwards maybe just like the tortoise and not the hare 😀

    Gail😀

Renee gives good sound advice and think this as help me not to push myself to quickly.

      Hi Gill

For the first 2 weeks after op I mostly either slept or sat on my bed as it was comfier than chair. Only thing I did was walk to toilet and back more or less. I gave myself time to get over the trauma of op. I was not given any exercises by hospital so didn't do any.

After 2 weeks I ventured for short walks outdoors. I tried 1 crutch but found my gait was incorrect and slight limp. stayed on 2 crutches. Week 3 able to use 1 crutch in house but 2 outside to keep correct gait. Week 5 no crutches at home. Week 6 no crutches outside either.

I have hardly done any exercise. Have done some gardening every 3 days or so. Otherwise just mainly rested ensuring I move at least a but every hour or so. I have been very lazy in that respect but feel it's actually helped me recover sooner.

I have had hardly any pain since week 2.

Currently at Week 7.....I walk without pain or limp. No pain meds. I can dress unaided except for one sock !!! I don't use toilet raiser or any other aids. In fact it feels like I've never had the op apart from being pain free and enjoying walking again. I am 61yrs old and been almost immobile for 2 years previous.

My theory for what it's worth is that our bodies do the majority of the healing.....If we give them the chance. I have never 'pushed' myself and don't intend to until at least 12 weeks. My poor body has been through enough of a trauma.

My advice is to chill out. Listen to your own body not what your head is telling you. Work at your own bodies pace and recovery will come at the right time and in the right way.

      Hugs x

      Hi Gail

Remember everybody goes through recovery at different pace but I think by 2 weeks I was sleeping for more like 6 hrs. I never had back ache but do you put pillow under your knees? Hear that helps.

Hahaha I remember my other half saying one night. ..you can't possibly need loo again !!!!....... no I said I'm struggling to sit up, get my leg off bed, get into crutches, hobble across hallway, then back again and struggle back into bed just for fun 😂😂

    Gail,

Yes I also miss work but knew I would as love my job

If you can work out how to private message that would be great - I have looked but can't see how to do it 😀

I have just had a frustrating afternoon trying to access my local physio  services for advice as my left wrist (which is weak from a previous injury)  is taking the brunt of my weight when I use my sticks. I would have liked some advice on a possible wrist support or possible change of sticks to crutches which I feel may give me some extra support.

However my local physio team, who I am able to self refer to, can not see me until 19 th October and the Physio team at the hospital where I had my surgery (which is in a different borough to where I live) say I have to contact my local team.  So literally going around in circles! Think I will ring the ward next for some advice.

Do you have sticks or elbow crutches?

I also have family events coming up - a christening on Saturday, my nieces wedding next Saturday and my 50th in December - I WILL attend them all (hopefully) though regrettably won't be dancing at the wedding next week 😢😢😢

You take care and speak soon.

    louise

      Hi Louise

Im on crutches but know what you mean if you have a injury on your wrist I can imagine another pain you have to deal with.If on crutches have you tried padding the handles for cushioning the strain on your wrist.

I am fortunate my physio appointment was sent to me before my operation I go next Thursday I would push yours you need it even if it's just to chat and reassure you what you should and shouldn't be doing.

Sounds like you have lots on too just wondering about the chair heights when we go out.

My daughter and my mums pearl anniversary and my birthday all on the 25th 🙈🙈.

good luck and keep me posted.

      take care too

      Gail 😀😀

Chair heights when out........the hospital put a piece of tape on one of my crutches at the height I needed minimum to sit. When out I used to just put crutch up to seat and hey presto knew if it would be ok 😀😀
