Total Knee Replacement what to expect

New to this forum and hoping for some advice.

Having a total knee replacement next month and not really sure what to expect or how to prepare for it.

Have had both hips replaced over last two years but it seems from reading up that knees are far more painful and take longer to recover from.

Any tops would be much appreciated as I'm way more apprehension about this surgery

Thanks

    Hi,

Do your pre-op exercises as much as you are able starting now and ensure that you maintain the exercises post op as you will benefit later   down the line. You will not always feel like it but you have been through he hip process which should help. the trick with knees especially is adequate pain control get that t right and you will be fine. Having said that you sometimes have to work through the residual discomfort to gain the benefit.

Keep in touch with this Forum you will have highs and low Chico and Old fat guy have good tips.

TKR although major surgery is routine nowadays and having had my first one 8 months ago am eternally grateful Went on holiday last month and was able to a 15 minute coastal path down to a beach in 15 minutes not the 45 minutes it slowly took me July 2016!!.

All the best and keep us psoted

Remember Rocky III and Clubber Lang (Mr. T)?

Interviewer: What's your prediction for the fight?

    Clubber Lang: My prediction?

    Interviewer: Yes, your prediction.

    [Clubber looks into camera]

    Clubber Lang: Pain!

That pretty much sums it up.  Click on my picture or name and then "See All Discussion".  Start with the "Kidney Stone" one.  Got about 20 out there.  Give up all your expectations about what this will be like and how fast you will recover.  You will be better when you are better...period.

    Hi dalmation.

I am new to this forum too. I am having a knee replacement on the 19th September . I just wanted to say hello and glad to meet your aquatitance.

I am a little nervous 😓 for my operation, but at the same time I will be glad to get it done.

My consultant has said that when he sees me for my 6 week check,he will then put me in for my right leg.

So I have a long way to go.

Good luck with yours. I will let you know how I get on.

    Take care.?
