It helps with certain types of pain, and as long as I only take it once in a while, it knocks me out, so I feel no pain: nothing worse than being unable to stop aches in bed... Dr. says if used with 2 paracetamol then much more effective, and that works. (for me). I stopped taking it when I thought I might be becoming dependent, and it was not helping so much. No withdrawal problems, however, although I have heard some people get hooked on them.

I take 50mg of Tramadol 2x per day along with 6mg of Prednisone. They work well together and relieve (some of) the pain from PMR. I also ave RA and OA and the Tramadolldoes nothing for the pain I feel from those.

I have no side effects, but it can increase the fatigue that comes from PMR, so naps occur! Not at work, of course, but when I get home and sit down for that pleasing cup of tea, I often awake to find it cold beside me....

I take an occassional dose - maybe once every two weeks -- for aches and pains if I overdo it from working outside.  I am very aware of the opioids and it also affects the intestines (constipation) if you're not careful.
