Treatment info for Blepharitis

Has anyone found treatment info specifically for Blepharitis? I'm told the same old things like "scrub with baby shampoo" and I'm not getting any better.

I'm frustrated and hope that some doctor somewhere has studied this terrible condition - and just want to find the answers!

Thank you,

Oliver, London

    Hi,

I have had blepharitis for over a year and I've been miserable. I've been to so many doctor's; I find Opthamologists don't provide as much help as Dermotologists.

I started with eyelid wips and baby shampoo but it doesn't do anything. It was brutal at the beginning but now I can actually get through my day. I have better days and some worse days. It started with a chilazion and now styes here and there.

I now use LaRoche Posay Efficlar H mouse. I use it twice a day with warm compress and that is the only thing that helps. When I start using it, my eye act up all over again and takes several days to calm down.

I recently read that there is a treatment, IPL, Intense Pulse Light, which is designed specifically for dry eyes. There is also antibiotics but I want to avoid medication and doctor's offices so I will continue to figure it out on my own.

At the same time, I was told I have rocesea which is linked to blepharitis. I will be doing rocesea on my face in hopes it will somehow help my eyelids.

It so frustrating and it's hard to explain to family and friends because they don't know what it is and no one else I know has it. I just want to go back to my normal skin.

    Best of luck.

      Hi Victoria,

I have also recently been diagnosed with this. For 3 months, I was treated for Pink-Eye, which only got worse.  Then I was sent to a Cornea specialist . I am on an eye antibiotic(steroid). He also said, you have Rosacea and it goes hand in hand. He said too, this is genetic.

I am miserable.  I seem better when I am home and have no eye make-up on and have been going without it.  I just feel so down about this and have been reading so many horrible treatments for it , but in 2 months, if it isn't better, I may do the surgery, if he suggests it. I have read somewhere, there are goggles one can sleep in that may help. I know exactly what you mean.  Whenever I see someone, I immediately try to explain what's going on-I'm so embarrassed. sad

Hi, can you elaborate on how long it took to help? I tried wet wipes for a few days and my eye lids just ended up getting more irritated and swollen. Just wondering if I didn't try long enough or if they get worse before they get better. Thank you so much!

*Correction to my post: when I stop using LaRoche Posay, my eyes act up all over again.

Hi, I can relate as I was miserable. I tried the antibiotics 3 times. I realized that the infection is in the roots of the eyelashes and that is why it takes so long to get rid of it.

The wipes I used are the WET ONES in the red box and have Benzethonium Chloride in them. I no longer have Blepharitis. The other person who is the one who found the medicine that worked is my daughter's mother-in-law. Her Blepharitis was moving up her eyelids. She used an Avon Facial Scrub and it was clearing it up. I tried to buy it and they were out of it. I looked on line to see what I could buy that had Benzethonium Chlkoride in it. I realized I had this item in my home and I carry it in my purse.

I used them by tearing each one into 8 pieces and doing each eyelash area twice--4 times a day for a week or more. Then as I was feeling better I went down to 3 times a day. The last 2 months I did it only 2 times a day. I realized that I could have used it 3 times a day and probably cut down one month. Hindsight is always better.

There is a Dr. who is interested in it. He asked me if I rinsed my eyes after using them and I said no I did not.

This is a cheap cure and you can research Benzethonium Chloride on the enternet. Two of us no longer have this horrible itching.

I did use antibiotics 3 times. I told the Dr. after I had gotten rid of it that the antibiotic should have been put on the eyelashes instead of in the eyes. That would probably clear it up too but would be so costly for it takes months not 10 days.

They sent this information to other sights and said it went viral. I don't do face book or tweet. I learned how to blog as the my Dr. didn't seem interested in the cure. I know of no other way to let people know they don't have to suffer.

I hope you give it a try as you will feel the difference in a couple of weeks. Please let me know if you are getting results.

      Hello Linda

I agree with you when you say that infection is in the roots of lashes. Out of desperation I ordered the product you reccomend so much.I would buy you the biggest chocolate in the world if I get rid of the problem. Now but...Yes, but indeed people are sceptical including myself because i tried many things and got just temporary relief.

I often have various bacteria in my eyes, the latest one found just a month ago was staphilococus aureus...but not the large number...Sometimes they dont find anything or it could be that little creatures are asleep and waiting for time to multiply.

My eyelids have never been too bad , i usually get redness around my eyes especially 2 lines which I hate the most! According to medical terms they are atopic lines called denni-morgan folds. They just prove long term allergies and scratching...

There is nothing more here to add than my wet ones will arrive in few days and i will follow your procedure. My sceptisicm is because i fear there could be some other allergy triggers not the bacteria itself. But we have to keep trying until we succeed.

So I will be writing again to tell the story.

Thank you for posting your experience.I think I would proudly and generously do the same thing myself.Take care

Hi Jenny, are you in the States?  Do the doctors do eye swabs and actually tell you what the bacteria is that's causing your problems?  It always seems to be a bit of a "suck it and see" attitude with the doctors and consultants that I've seen in the UK and that's beginning to really annoy me.  I asked the consultant that I saw last week what the "bugs" he could see actually were.  His lack of knowledge actually concerned me.  He said bleph is caused by Strep but I was pretty sure that it can be any of a number of bacteria including staph aurea (most common), malassezia furfur (yeast), demodex mites etc...  He reluctantly agreed to do some swabs but wasn't even sure what to write down on the sheet for the lab.

How are you getting on, now?  Did the wet ones work for you?

      xx

      Hello

You must be new on forum..in my later posts I was writing about my improvement..Havent visited this site for quite long as I was extremely busy and what is even more important- symptom free...

I am so happy now with my eyes...Wet ones worked and I didnt use them for too long at all...now I am only cautious about not re-infecting myself especially with make up ....

No, i am not from States / Croatia/ but I ordered the wipes from there...easy and cheap! Look for Mr.Medical on e bay, hope they are still being sold...

Regarding the test, ask your eye specialust or even GP to have your eyes tested on presence of bacteria...I never had problems performing it here, it is a standard test..

      Good luck

      Dear Henry,

I did not have that but someone in a rest home does. She started out with very red eyelid margins. I did not know what it was. She then went on to have this very yellow gunk on her eyelashes. Like cementing the eyelashes together.

I said why not? I pulled out a hand wipe and cleaned off her eyes. I do it 2 times  a week. She is very old so I wipe them off with water after a couple of minutes. It keeps it under control but still there but not bad at all.

I read online on that 100% of people over ninety have demodex.  The wipes could be killing the mites or just the bacteria from the mites poop.

I don't know which one it is or it could be both.

I do know it got better after a couple of weeks.  I can't do it daily for her.

Don't know if this is what you want to know or not. I do know that my itching Blepharitis felt better after a week and a half and then I went down to 3 times a day.

      Hope this info helps.

I am so grateful for Lynda sharing the information about the Wet Ones. It is the only treatment that helped me.

Lynda is the one who turned me on to the Wet Ones and they were a miracle cure for me.  I also shared with my brothers and they had success.  I finally told my optometrist and he was impressed with the results. The before and after pictures of my eyes are amazing.  I had tried everything including surgery on my tear ducts.  I suffered for many years and the Wet Ones absolutely cured me.  Thank you Lynda.
