Treatment that works!

My skin is ultra sensitive. Has anyone any idea what I can use apart from clobetasol to relieve pain and inflammation around groins and external pubic area. Feels like skin is " chaffed" and angry and red. Distressing plus plus.

Think I'm the same as you Muriel! Bet you feel as sorry for yourself as I do!

I'm extremely sensitive to most things so I have to be careful.  I have sensitive skin all over my body.  I've never been able to use most moisturizes on my face because I generally always get a rash.  I have to use straight vaseline and have done so for over 20 years now.  Anyway, during my last flare up, of which nothing was getting it under control, I bought some Aquaphor Diaper Rash cream.  Now any brand would do, but that particular brand had the least amount off offending extra ingredients in it.

Zinc, which is the active ingredient in diaper rash cream, actually has some good skin healing properties.  The only sunscreen I am able to use on my face is a zinc type and it actually makes my skin feel good.

So I slapped that diaper rash cream on about 3 times per day and before bed and it really helped the burning.  Desitin seems to be the most popular brand in the U.S., but it contains lanolin which is a very reactive ingredient for people with sensitive skin.  The Aquaphor brand didn't have it.  I was going to also try Bodreaux's Butt Paste as it's well rated, but it has some natural ingredients such a calendula and something else that I feared I would react to.  It has a fairly heavy scent too which is just a no-no for me.

Hi thanks for your input. I think I'm a bit out of my depth. I'm allergic to lanolin but apart from getting the steroid eumovate and clobetasol via my GP don't think I have easy access to some of things you mentioned. I'm prob on a U.S site and I'm actually in Ireland. 😳

Muriel how are you doing now? Any better? I'm uk and also feel out of my depth! Eumovate not helping and have cutting down on Vaseline and coconut oil to see if that had been making matters worse.  No joy!

Pamela I've tried Vicks which has helped. Yes.... I know. But someone suggested it. Try a little in small area first to see if you can tolerate. It's not conventional but if it works what the heck. The people who say not to use sonething are obviously not suffering the symptoms. First relief I've had in two weeks! Good luck.

I understand what you mean.  I feel like many people on here are in the UK and I don't recognize the products that are being mentioned!  But the diaper rash cream should be readily available anywhere, it will just be different brands.   Try something for "nappy" rash as I think it's more commonly termed and find one with the least amount of ingredients and no lanolin.  Zinc Oxide should be the active ingredient.

Gosh Muriel    Vicks sounds scary! I am so sore and burning that I'm worried that I'll never find anything for relief.  Glad Vicks works for you though!

Honestly I know. Stings a bit but then calms down. No worse than that, scalded sensation. I would have tried absolutely anything . Trousers were particularly bad and I have to wear them for work. I'm not sure if this works for everyone but it certainly has given me relief and calmed my skin down by miles. Research it a bit more. Would hate to make things worse.

Pamela have you tried not putting anything on for a day  or so.

If it is reacting when you put medication n oil on, then, maybe just maybe

      Sending big hug 🤗

      Wowser Muriel  Vicks 😳

Glad it helped and gave you relief 👍🏻

but hey you are very brave methinks X

Not one bit brave. I heard something about it and thought any thing is worth a try. I was distraught this time last week. So desperate I would honestly have tried anything. Not sure what way tomorrow goes but clobetasol def over worked. No longer has any potency and might as well use water! Learning curve. Just playing it by ear. Comfortable at moment. Such a relief.

    Hi

I'm new on this forum and also a sufferer of this condition. Currently having the worst flare up of my life it feels like. It really hurts all over and is getting blister like. It's so hard not to itch it. I really want to but it hurts if I do anyway. Have got my steroid ointment from the drs which is nearly out so I think i need to go back. I just hate going especially if they want to have a look I get so embarrassed when it's particularly bad. I found relief using germolene yesterday I think that may be because of its slight numbing. Off to restock myself of aqueous cream today. I wish there was a proper cure for this

Completely sympathise. See other comments. Some people suggest using zinc based creams and castor oil. Trial and error. Have to go with what works for you. Good luck!! I agree horrendous condition.

      Ahhh Jennifer poor you.

Having horrid flare up is the pits 😱

Can your doctor prescribe an ointment with anaesthetic in to help over this awful time ?

You can explain your symptoms and tell them you prefer not to be examined

I only ever let my LS specialist check me out.  G.Ps generally don’t know what they looking at with this condition!!

      Sending hugs Jennifer X

Hi, new here but I was diagnosed with LS in October 2017. I had tiny cuts and intense itching pain would come and go. So far I have found that cocnut oil helps with keeping it moisturized. I have started taking cetirizine it helps with inflamation and itching. I also soak. In the tub. For about 20 mins to half an hour in borax and baking soda 3 tbl spoons each. I do have clob but I try 2 use it only if I have no choice. I dont like reading bout the long term effects of steroids so I try to steer clear from using it. I havent really had any cuts like before. The itching is now minimal. I do tend 2 use the coconut oil quite often. I plan on trying that emuaid cream and I will be trying tea tree oil. I am also using estrace which has also helped with the feeling of dryness and pain during intercourse. I also take a multi vitamin n mineral pill which has boron in it. My gyno said that they sometimes prescribe boron crystals for insertion because boron or borax can help regulate our ph balance henceforth why I do my daily soaks. Morning or night sometimes both. This condition sux and I am determined not to let it take over my life. I hope that if you feel like ur all alone with this terrible horrible condition, that you realize ur not at all. I hope u all find some kind of comfort I'm doing ok right now. Nothing to bad. No cuts no pain and itching is down 2 a minimum. Let me know if you have any questions.
