Tremors (Severe) - Vitamin D deficiency

Posted , 22 users are following.

I suffered for years with tremors that increase to a total body tremor and felt unwell and fatigued... The tremors became very severe by the age of 40 and found it hard to function. It's worth looking into this - my consultant decided to look at my vitamin d levels and the result was they were so very low. After treatment with vitamin d3 high dose for over a year, my tremors have gone! The thing is that without vitamin d3 at correct levels, you are not absorbing calcium and the body will shut down without those two working together! I know my story will not help everyone, it may help those that have had lots of tests but still no answer. In any case, it is still worth getting it checked out.

That's good news Jane although it also shows how these things can be missed, I presume you didn't wait al those years to see your GP/specialist ?

blood tests for thyroid and vit D were the first tests I had from GP before being referred to and diagnosed by a Neurologist, after many medical investigations incl MRI brain scans etc my tremors were found to be just one part of a condition called dystonia. Incurable but treatable, In your case though it does sound like you've found a cure which is brilliant,

all the best for the future

Yes it took years of seeing different specialists until one clever consultant decided to check! It's good that your gp and specialists were on the ball and I hope that with treatment that your symptoms are kept at bay.

Abdiqani, my post was indeed meant to be something that may prove helpful to others in a similar situation that I found myself in, it was not a search for answers for myself as I know now what is wrong.

Thanks for your post. I have suffered for a while now with tremors and put it down to my PTSD and the medicines I am taking for that. I will definitely get checked for my vitamin B levels. Thanks smile

Hi Cecilia, my tremors were severe at rest and intensified when I tried to do something. All other conditions were ruled out and it appears my vitamin d levels being very low was a chronic condition. I've been taking vitamin d long term and my tremors have gone. I hope it works for you although it took me a long time to get to where the levels should be. Be patient - excuse the pun! Wishing you all the best

That is very interesting to hear.  I have been diagnosed with ET early May.  I was also told that I am low on vitamin D.  I was not informed that the 2 are connected.  I also have low white blood count. Other than that I am very healthy physically.  I am trying to not feel sorry for myself with the constant shaking. Easier said than done.  I am not liking the primidone too much so I am weaning off of it and hope to be off of it completely next week.  I have to remember to take my vitamin D

Hello Backdoorkain, I hope you get your results soon. They have to send them to a special lab and can take a few weeks to get the results. Fingers crossed for you! Jane
