Trochanteritis

Hi

I had a right sided posterior hip replacement in dec 2015.

Although the hip is ok i have been experiencing severe pain in the buttocks and down the right side of the leg. The pain has even travelled down my leg into my foot.

I have seen my consultant and he says it is something called trochanteritis

whic can come on after hip replacementr .

I have  had a a corterson injection into the trochanta  and am told this might help , with a further 2 injections to follow at 6 weekly intervals.

Has anyone else experienced this problem.

Kind regards

Shirley

I have similar problem had my thr last June have got very achy outside hip and leg. GP sending me to consultant this Friday sounds like I may get injection (did it hurt) as when GP PRESSED DOWN SIDE OF LEG NEARLY HIT THE ROOF .  Have been having extra physio but made no difference.

cant wait for some answers GP did not know what it could be may be tendon or Busitis which think is anther name for Trochanteritis.

Happy days Shirley hope you get relief, let's hope I get somewhere Friday.

Hi Lorna . I nearly tore my consultants head off when he pressed the side of my hip.

The injection is not pleasant but its worth trying anything to get some relief

Do you get the pain in your buttock as well

I have also had extra physio but it has not made a difference .

I an having an MRI scan this Friday, because my GP seems to think that the sciatic nerve may be having something to do with the pain in my foot .

Although my consultant seems to think it is definiteley trochanteritis

Hi Lorna , i have had 1 injection , it does not seem to have made much difference with the pain in the bum , and the pain around the trochanter is awful . I am scheduled for another 2 injections one in july and one in  august.

I went for an MRI Scan last week so will know in about 10 days the outcome of that.

I am continuing to go for physio but to be quite honest it does not seem to be having any affect.

Has your injection made any difference

      Kind regards Shirley

No Shirley no difference at all, nothing been said about any more injections, at the moment waste of time would rather had MRI first to see if it's anything else.  Everything seems so long  between appointments etc.

Just want to feel on top o the world again hip itself is fine it's a bit crazy my man said muscle scarring could be the cause?

Please keep in touch re your MRI

      Hi Lorna

Just been to doctors for results of MRI Scan.

It was showing nothing out of the ordinary .

So now i just have to wait for my next 2 injections and see if they do anything, after that i dont know nor does the doctor. Meanwhile i live with the pain

Perhaps the consultant will be able to tell me m ore about the prognosis.

      Feeling very down .

      Regards Shirley

Sorry to hear that, Shirley. Had a hip MRI with my original surgeon, and both the radiologist who interpreted the results and my surgeon saw nothing. I went for a second opinion, had another MARS MRI, and the new radiologist saw nothing. My new surgeon, who also does gluteal tendon repairs, immediately saw in the scans that my gluteus medius was torn, and it is torn so badly that I need to have surgery to repair it. New surgeon will do it in August.

So just because your doc didn't see anything, doesn't mean there isn't a problem there. Can you go for a second opinion?

Sorry you are no further forward, I really understand you feel down like you I sort of hoped they would find an answer with the MRI.  HOPE consultant has an answer thought of having pain for weeks is not good after all we have gone through. Because I bet that is the sort of result I will get come August.

thank you so much for message.  Will keep you posted as and when.

      Love Lorna
