trouble breathing after a night of drinking

I ussaully drink one to 2 times a week but on the weekend it is ussaully a little too much. Sometimes, when i drink too much i start having breathing problems like a shortness of breath and chest pains.it seems to get worse when i start thinking about my breathing too. Is this just anxiety or could it be something else? Like an alergy or just plain too much alcohol?

I get the same exact thing. The only thing I have found to work is anxiety medication . I take half a xanax and it goes away every time. Talk to you doctor about it. But try not to abuse the meds. Only take them when you feel like you can't breathe.

Hi Jeremy,
I've had this now most days after drinking alcohol. I wake up with a feeling of shallow breathing. The longer the day goes on the worst it gets. Only settles when i get into bed!!
How are you now?
Thanks, Paul

There is actually such a thing as hangover anxiety. The Irish call it "the fear."

I have had these same problems. I have been a heavy drinker since I was 18 & I'm 25 now. I wake up in the morning I can't breathe, heart racing while having palpitations, sweating from hands & feet real sick puke about 4 to 6 times, cant eat, cant sleep I went to a clinic once and had hypertension. I went to ER once EKG came out alright & I left before they could finish all the series of test they wanted to run. it's hard on me because family and friends drink etc when I eat out I see people ordering drinks it makes me crave. I get head spins feel like I hear or see things when hungover & Tbh all this at once just makes you fee like you are losing sanity. my long term goal is to cut down till I quit. if you go 6 to 8 months without drinking the heart or liver will start to repair it still thanks for your time everybody and if there is any other advice plz respond

Studies have found that too much drinking has direct impact on your lungs and affects your breathing.
