Tummy issues and sooo tired

Posted , 12 users are following.

I guess I got too excited after my last PT session on Wednesday, because all day yesterday I was in bed with tummy issues except for many trips to the bathroom. And sooo very tired. I slept off and on most of the day. Not feeling great today either. No fever thank goodness. I am going to miss PT because of it. I was hoping to be doing better at 4 weeks then I am. I did all the right things to prepare my body before surgery, but I'm not sure that helped. Il just keep on keeping on.

Wish I could help. Do you think your tummy issues are related to your knee or the PT.? Perhaps you have a bug. I I wasn't too far along at 4 weeks but at the 4 month meeting with the doctor he said everything was fine...he'd see me in a year. Now at six months --after epidurals for my other knee and my back -- my new knee is presenting with a lot of new kinds of pain. Wish I had better answers for you. My doctor says it takes a year to get back to normal.

I am at 6 months also and having new kinds of feelings in my new knee. Not sure if pain, but always feels tight, even though the bend and straight is good. I guess the only pain on and off is on the right side of the knee where it is numb

Hi. I'm almost 5 weeks out. Taking hydrocodone for pain and my stomach gets bad too. The meds make me tired so I take lots of naps. Feel like I might be starting to make genuine progress in PT. I too was thinking I would be further along but alas it is not to be. This is a tough recovery and takes time I'm finding. I'm not a very patient person so that doesn't help. Good luck to you.

      Michael,

you have to get off the hydrocodone. My wife finally made me realize that the pains I was feeling ( 3 1/2 weeks after surgery ) was withdrawal when the effects of the pill began to wear off. I stopped the hard stuff and took Advil instead. Yes, the first night was like a night from hell, but no more anxiety or problems with my stomach. And trips to the bathroom are back to normal too.

I can relate to your PT frustrations too, but after reading all the posts we just have to realize it's going to be hard and take longer that expected..

I have to have the hydrocodone to keep up with pain so I can do PT. Advil would never be enough for me.

I take the hydrocodone before PT, and Tylenol and Aleve the rest of the time. Seems to work out ok.

This has been a very tiring week for me as well. I'm on hydrocodone and I only take it at night. The stomach issues may be a virus. I haven't heard of anyone getting stomach problems with tkr. Maybe a reaction to the meds but this is something that you should ask your doctor. I Haven't been able to sleep at night and I find myself sleep during the day.

My nights were really bad before the TKR and the nights have continued to be my worst time --not as bad but still the worst time for me. My doctor highly

recommended I stop the hydricodone/acetametaphin at the 4 month mark. His PA had said I could go out a year.but being terrified of getting hooked on opiates at this stage of life I got off the day the doctor said it. I now take a very infrequent Tramadol -- those two drugs were the ones I was taking from the beginning.

Out of curiosity, how long did you stay in the hospital after the TKR?

I went in on a Tuesday morning and was discharged Friday afternoon.

Hi Phillip... Im nearly 9 weeks in recovery after full TKR and a 2 inch screw removed from an old reconstruction op. I stopped all meds after 2 weeks and ice.. ice.. ice.. I found when I couldn't sleep at night I bandaged cabbage leaves to my swelling.. not the scar... and the relief was amazing... I left it on maybe 30 mins... Old healing tale but it worked for me... hope you feel better soon... Shaz

I Went back to my normal routine way too soon nd it finally caught up with me. I have my own handyman business and I was out building wheelchair ramps at 4wks post op. I slowed down and my body basically shut down on me this week. I'm on hydrocodone and I am taking it real easy. Thanks for your encouragement.

They wanted to release me that Thursday but I told the physician I wasn't ready to go yet.

Seven weeks out today from my partial knee replacement.  I do my own PT and am doing fine.  Pain still continues to keep me awake at night, even though I take one pain pill.  Never had tummy issues, however pain meds can upset your stomach, even just taking advil.  Keep plugging as I am learning this is a process....a long process.  Had two wrist surgeries and a hip replacement.  This is, by far, the worst.  I want to go back to work and cannot because of the pain.  Very frustrating, but be patient.

I Have alot of respect for you taking control of your rehab. I Have been doing my own therapy the last few days and made more progress than the last few weeks going to pt. Last week I was at 74 degrees and today I am 92 degrees. I have to go to pt cause the VA won't approve my disability.
