TURP drs.

Do you ever wonder sometimes how a human being can do something to another human being. I am talking about the decision to go ahead and do a TURP on another human being. Now I am being very sensible here and I am talking to the guys in their 50's and 60's who have had this done ( TURP ). I just wonder if you ever stopped to think if anything else could have been done. I was certainly given no other alternatives. I miss the ejaculation. It's gotten to the point that I don't even masturbate anymore because I don't have a mate at the moment, but I'm wondering if any of the other guys my age feel the same way. I wish that I had my old self back. I want to look ahead to the future, but a precious thing has been taken away from me. Iv'e found many new friends on this site and feel as if we are one family of men searching for answers to our concerns. BUT the urologists are different people. Toal lack of humanity and feelings of what happens to us when we become older men and don't know what is happening to us. They have training in this field and should bring some element of Humanity when dealing with their patients who have bph. I haven't found one that I would give you a nickel for. I had Prostatitis which my Urologist didn't even know what it was + the BPh, so I was scheduled for a turp. Bing, it happened before I knew what was even happening. There was no discussion, no decision making, just quickness. Since this time I have met many more of these SPECIALISTS. They are very cold, very unhuman, like a computer. We are human beings. We deserve to be treated with compassion as you would if you were in our position. Do we really make the decision to have these TURPs or is it the Doctors. As I said if the Dr. were in our shoes would he want that done to him. Only the good Lord can look down and make the decision on whether that physician took his oath of pledge to never to hurt !!! They are people, we are people, but we made the decision to seek them out for help. Not for them to take advantage of us. Maybe some day this will all make sense.

I feel exactly like you and in this modern times I thought I could trust a specialist. Well all of them are not the same and I went to another urologist  after my TURP operation and told him that my life is a total mess and I hate the climax with RE as it feels like nothing. He told me that  any urologist that is worth his money should discuss at least all the different options that are available for you, with you and find out what is the best option for you..My first urologist told me only about the TURP and when I asked him if there is no other method he told me that there are but  they dont have any results and he wouldnt take any chances if he was me. I thought that I could have prostate cancer. I got all my information that I have now from my new urologist and nothing from that first one. The only thing you can do is to keep on going back to that urologist and make his life hell as well because even with all this "trusted "medical advice from so called world class hospitals that tell you that the climax should be the same he should know better. Any urologist that dont know what damage he or she is doing to a man like me and any urologist that dont know that there are men who are totally unhappy with the climax should be fired from the medical role. Of course they make more money than a hart or a  brain specialist (that are the ones that do 2 patients per 10 minutes like my first urologist and ask nearly the same money as a hart specialist do for about an hour visit. They dont care of course because after you have this big "surprise" of a climax when you have sex the first time after the TURP and you cant believe it then theyve just never heared of something like that. And how do you prove that????

I know exactly how you feel Wally and hate it when bullies like that come on the sites and want to start a fight. They haven't had the Turp. I went through exactly the same thing that you went through. I was scared and trusted him. I was a urological mess,  but after reading things on here there were alternatives. Not all Drs. are saints, despite what some people may believe. We are human and deserve to be treated as human. These Drs, treat us as if we were on an assembly line. Will keep talking to you, Wally, ok  Steve

Men have to watch when they are talking to there urologist.  He can suger coat everything to make it sound great.  And there old saying all will be the same.  It will not.  That is a text book answer that they learn in school.  All men may have the same parts but no 2 man have the same orgasm...  Ken

Wally...Most doctor are just looking to fix the problem but what about the problems that come up from the fix.  They don't look at that.  I think they forget they are men and what there doing to another man.  They also feel if your older you don't need to have a ejaculation because your not having kids That is bull crab.  The ejaculation goes with the orgasm.  I will never give full control to my doctor to do anything that will damage my ejaculation.  At 61  I still enjoy sex I may not have it has much but I want the whole thing......I don't want anything flat and has no feeling  Just because we are older we should not give up on life. Take care     Ken

    H. What is the reason for the radical prostatectomy? If cancer isn't indicated then I  would go for HoLep or Green light etc. I had HoLep but for a greatly enlarged prostate. The only, and I mean only, (expected) problem has been RE which is not a problem. Laser work does however need an expert surgeon but done well the results are excellent. Mine was done in Cambridge, UK.

How long ago was that? My GL was done at The Freeman in Newcastle in 2005. They have now been using Holep for the past three years.

Hi. It was 3 years ago and apart from the RE I am not aware that I ever had the operation. My urologist, Tevita Aho, said GL was typically better suited to smaller prostates and HoLep for larger ones.

Dai I'm very happy that you are ok with the turp and the retro.  But some men cannot deal with it  mentally.  It is  debilitating to them.  I for one did not like retro when I was on a couple of meds.  Got off them quick.  I have been working on many procedure that help men and keep all of the function.  Just because were older doctor say we don't need to have a ejaculation because we are not having kids but we still want them.  Take care  Ken

Hi. I had HoLep rather than traditional TURP. All went very well with no pain after a day and witha catheter for just a day. I had virtually no leakage immediately and even that went after a few days. I had a small amount of blood in the urine for 5 weeks. I have a full erection and orgasm and as I was producing little semen before the op little has changed. I'm 71 BTW. I did have some urine retention so had a supra-pubic catheter for 3 months which was removed at the HoLep. So I would suggest you look at Green Light or HoLep rather than traditional TURP but look for a good surgeon with lots of experience. Apart from the RE I have had no side effects.

I believe for TURP, HoLep and GL there will always be RE? I have a normal orgasm so not much has changed from before the op. Because I had been 'drying-up' for years due to my aged prostate, I guess I had gradually become used to no ejaculate.

    Dear Steven:

Thank you sooooo much for your letter.  You are correct.  Docs are sooooooo aggressive with TURPs that it really confuses me.

But there are some docs who understand medicine is an art.  That's why they are still "practicing."

I had a few docs who wanted to immediately perform TURP.  I waited and found a doc in Laguna Beach who finessed my median lobe with hand skill and subltle carving.  And - he gave me the Urolift.

Things are much better.  Not perfect - but I don't need Flomax.  Yippe.  What a relief.

I was almost going to fly to Germany - because they can get rid of "things" like lobes and enlarged prostates without ruining one's ability to ejaculate "outward."

Now - I have heard about "rezume" which can even get rid of a median lobe wihile keeping outward (or ante-grade) ejaculation.

I admire your courage and generosity in helping the next generation.  I went to almost 7 urologists.  So I learned that not all docs are alike. Some are hacks - literally.  Other docs are compassionate, creative and cutting edge - literally.  Haha.

    Best always to you.

    J.

PS - I still have "outward" or antegrade ejaculate.  And yes - I am grateful for that.

I wish more men would tell the doctors no.  At 61 still feel my ejaculation is worth saving Doctors tell  us we don't  need it because we are not having kids.  I may not need it but I stll want it. Good job my friend   Ken
